Narrow body panels suck

What ever happened to the days when you'd be out riding and a group of sleds would blow by at mach one and when you finally catch up to them parked somewhere remote they would be machines that may or may not be built.

Those were the days of the Cat or some Crazy Canuck with a chain between the skis dropping out of the clouds above 10,000 wearing moto cross protection.

Those were the good old days :)

Time to put a wear pad on that rub spot and not lean so hard on that side or maybe that's a good spot for a shark vent.

Patrick custom carbon did the balance. If the clutch blows apart I won’t try and get Cat to warranty because I chose to have someone drill a ton of holes in it. Never rode it before balance but the specs of how far off it was off before he started drilling didn’t look good. The fire and ice is a bit thicker but there was little clearance before. I noticed lack of clearance stock when I was taking belt and clutches off to get balanced. I hope I never have to change a belt with cold fingers in some crappy position in the mountains. Part rant, part info sharing, part asking if there is a “fix” or something I should do with the wear bar.

If you relocate that riveted on piece it likely won't catch the molded parts in the skid plate keeping it in orientation.

You can trim the skid plate to allow more room, plan to have a handy torx wrench with your belt removal tool (front and rear allowing the skid plate more flex).

I went through swapping one on my m600 so my spare was broken in. Really wish they had a cutout on the side panel like the Matryx and G5 do. That is a bit upsetting. The foam on the plastic might also end up being removed the first belt change also.

I had the skid plate loose for some other things when I yanked the belt and clutches and that had me thinking how much more of a pain it would be if the skid plate wasnt loose in the field. And you are right don’t see any way the stock foam could survive a belt change.

Im guessing the manufacturers put the foam on the sleds to cut down noise for the EPA? Stuff is worthless lol

My very limited time on the sled though I love the chassis.

Removal of the belt will remove that foam. It was one of the hardest belt removals I've had in recent history, so tight, you need every panel around those clutches loosened up. Going back on, wasn't as hard, go figure.

The foam is likely for SSCC (self-governing snowmobile association rules) regulations. There is a sound test as part of that, driving by at a certain MPH has a decibel limit. SSCC regs also have things like limitations on coverage of objects to keep people safe from rotating parts like brake rotor guards or size of openings in hoods to limit you touching the exhaust from the outside.
