Big herd of Elk

I sa these elk today while driving home and i realized that that is more elk than i sa during all of hunting season and here they are not more than a couple hundred yards from the road. They must be pretty smart animals because they start to pop up all over the place as soon as hunting season is over. These were some beautiful bulls though.

that is exactly where it was taken, about 200yds off the highway down teanaway road, this was about 11:30 this morning, this herd has been in the valley for the past couple of days.

I go through that area all the time and can't count the times I've barely missed hitting one of those monsters. They're there every year and man they're awesome.

Looks like 4, 6, and 8 are the biggest of them.

Here's something similar from Kodiak Island.

There was about that many more up on the hillside from what I was told.

They were having a feed on a whale carcass. Yummy!

I sure thought the area looked familiar. These elk hang out in the trees during winter just south of there and move back and forth across the hwy to feed. There are several very large bulls for sure.

Since we can only shoot spikes those elk have no worry during hunting season, can't count the times i see elk that big during the season and they stand there and laugh at me. Had two in my sights opening day this year at 50 yards, had to throw something sat them to get them to move. Swaqmpy

Nope, not really even that close to it. The feeding station west of E-burg is in the Taneum I think. MountainRiderM7 confirmed this picture was taken in the Teanaway area off hwy 970.

we get stuff like that all over all winter long here. if its a good snow winter we get them right down into town. and one of our trailheads(hardware ranch) is a feeding station and you can watch hundreds of elk while loading and unloading your sled and gettin ready. you can pay some $$$ and the forest service will take you out on a horse drawn sleigh right out into the middle of the heard, its pretty sweet. we also see lots of big bulls in our hunting area to, but its a spike only unit so it sucks.

are you sure? thats how we grow our elk around here, let the sprayers hit'em a few times every day and then a couple years later ya pluck'em right up
