My Greazy Project Ultra RMK NUMBER DEUCE!!!!!

Going to be a busy couple days. Talked with Barry Holtzman a little bit after struggling a little since refiring both sleds and running a bit fat. Going to rejet each of the ultras. Adjust the front shocks on Ultra #2. Not sure if I'm liking the stance on Ultra 1. Gotta look at that from the side a bit. I think the way the rear is setup it puts more weight forward making the front squat a bit. I could through on the long shaft Shocks I had on it before that came off a 22 Pro Matrix RMK but that's a whole different battle with getting the steering tight and strong.

Still waiting for seat covers. Got less than a month before the Rusty Nutz ride. Need to prep the new gas tank and seat foam for Ultra#1 when that comes in.

Hood for Ultra 2 still not finished. Guy just has to have the time to save that original clear coat and decals. Once he gets started it wont take long.

White Turbo sled. I just need to stick hardend ZRP spacers and almond primary spring in and that one is done....though I'm debating on wrapping that.

Black and Orange 800, wifes sled. Scooped that up for cheap with 400 miles and a can on it, cherry sled. Took that out by myself a week ago. Going to be my "wifes" sled so while she is back in the Philippines for Xmas I'm installing an electric start with lightweight NOCO Lithium Ion battery in it.

Oh and that Tiki Beer tap in the box needs to get installed on my fridge door at some point.

Got plenty of time since I resigned at the Polaris dealership. Really struggling the last few months with fatigue, insomnia, tremors, blackouts etc. I got enough on my plate to keep me busy but also get some rest and get myself prepared physically for what is coming. Round 2!

Need some tuning tips. Man! Remember when EFI pretty much went standard and we were like, "I'm glad I don't have to mess with carbs anymore. Well I forgot alot about tuning carbs in over 20yrs running efi.

Heres What was in it for Mains 320, 310, 290 (I forget which was pto/center/mag
Pilot 25
Needle- not sure, my eyeball cant read it. but I went

I'm running the following in accordance to this SLP Chart https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/read/41914450/09-6801-instruction-sheet-starting-line-products-inc

We ride 6000ft+ usually 0-50f for temp
Have Holtzman Tempaflo
V Force Reeds
SLP Pipes (High RPM)

SLP Chart Jetting
6000-9000ft, +40f and above 320/300/320 (PTO/Center/Mag) (Went with a 300 on the center because I don't have a 290 on hand)
Pilot=25
Needle ‎Mikuni J8-6FL14
Clip position 2nd from top
Needle Jet 247-P4
Air Screw 1 turn out

Fired it up and ran it a bit. Didn't seem to want to idle. Turned the holtzman tempaflow 1/8 turn to the right and then it would idle with the choke on but wanted to die when applying throttle. Granted, right now the sled is at 4000 ft elevation in my heated garage, but I thought it should run a little better. I was half thinking of tossing it on the trailer with my turbo and take it up the hill in the morning but at this phase I feel like I would be wasting my time. I stuffed the old BR8ES plugs in to try and get a read which way to go at this point. I was thinking it needed more fuel but she's blowing alot of smoke. So part of me is saying lean it out more. Any Suggestions?

I just ran it a 3rd time with the Tempaflow 1/8 turn from base (8000ft) and it still falls on it's face and dies.

Just stuffed back in a set of 6hd8 stamped (both 96 Ultra RMK's I have these needles came in them from different owners. (I assume are j8-6dh8 needles and BR9ES plugs and still the same after resyching carbs again. Shutting it down for the night.

Figured it out. Just needed to drop the clip on the needle one, and back the tempa flow 1/8 turn to 4000ft where I'm at and she purrs. Little late night finish on the seat and chasing a fuel leak. Discovered the fuel line I replaced was all not for under the hood. Debating on replacing with transparent. Would solve the problem but then I'm thinking varnishing long term storage, chasing down and the expense of all new clamps. The opaque stuff does make it easy to see where fuel is coming from. Gotta go get new fuel line this morning once parts stores open. Put a heat gun to the rear flap to make sure it doesn't get sucked up by the track. All that's left is hood that's done refinished in Mercedes Black. Put the decals on that and the seat. Then run it up on a test before next weekend.

Done!! Well, just waiting on seat decals. But just in time for the Rusty Nutz Vintage show/ride this Saturday at Rec Springs Resort in the Black Hills. Sorry for the vert. Filmed wide with the phone.

Took it up to the cabin to unload it. Pulled it a couple times and didn't even seem like it wanted to try to fire. Lifted the hood. Sheit! Forgot to turn the fuel off. So I turned it off, pulled and pulled and it backfired. Great. I know the case filled up with gas again as they are notorious for and did the day before. It did this when I remove something behind the pump. I rebuilt the pump first and then had it fill up. Empty the crank case and pull and dry the plugs and it fires right up. Pulled the gas tank to replace the seat cover, same thing. This is the third time. I know back in the day you didn't dare stop facing down hill or they had a tendency of filling the crank with gas. Odd thing is, it's twin brother, (My greazy project ultra rmk #1) with all the same setup under the hood, has never displayed such temperament. I've got another fuel pump rebuild kit. Think it might be worth a go to break it down and rebuild it again or is this just simply something that is expected and accepted for this animall?

i found all of my triple indys were finicky that way

They were very finicky. (I had a 10-1 wrenching to riding hours average on my old 1996 XCR 600 w Pro 5 triple pipes - i was 14 years old)

However, if you can check the index of the crank (degrees of change from one cylinder to the next) and correct it they get way less finicky.

Also find an old grey haired guy who knows how to use a vaccum gauge and have him tune and sync the carbs.
