Another avalanche!... Killed my buddy

Is every day going to end with a story like this??? All these families out there with fathers, sons, brothers or friends not coming home again is just tragic to hear.

Thoughts and prayers from SD.

This guy wasn't from Timmins, ON was he?

Very very sorry to hear about another sledding brother gone.........:(

Lets all be careful out there, hate to hear this stuff ecspecially when it's only an hour away.......

Chaz

Wow is all i can say, My thoughts go out to the family and friends. Life can be so short. Ride safe everyone.

Sorry to hear it. A very bad weekend, 3 avy deaths in BC. That Dec 5th layer is very hard to predict if it is stable or not. Even in a controlled area like Big White with 1000's of skiers previously pounding on it, it still let go. For those out there that think it safe because the slope has been pounded could end up with a big surprise. Everyone has to be extremely cautious out there

Reading that made me sick... I went sledding yesterday up the Coq at 10 k and stayed away from the big hills. Just looking up at the big cornices at the top of the big climbs there made me feel sick, so we just went and played around on the back side. At the end of the day on our way back I looked back up at the hills and there were highmarks all the way up to the cornices... I almost got sick in my helmet. There were no slides while we were there, but it's only a matter of time... PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM HILLS LIKE THAT!

Ken, thank you for posting your story. I think you may save some lives by doing so.

condolences to the friends and families, prayers that no more friends or families have tragedy's like this.

but with the layer of ice in the big country this year i am sorry to say we may have more story's like this:(

Avalanches kill three
by Kelly Hayes - Story: 36418
Jan 7, 2008 / 6:30 pm

It was a deadly weekend for avalanches in the Southern Interior.

Three people have died following separate incidents over the weekend.

Avalanches killed two snowmobilers. One in Christian Valley, east of Big White in the Mount Arthur area, where Eric Hofman was killed while snowmobiling with two other people. He was 44 and from Penticton.

A snowmobiler was also killed Sunday in the Granby area, east of Christian Valley.

The Grand Forks man was killed by an avalanche while snowmobiling with six other people. The man was rushed to hospital where he died.

The victim has been identified as Dave Brousseau.

The third fatality involving an avalanche occurred at Big White Sunday where a slide killed one person. The victim has yet to be identified.

Grrrrrr.
Big Whites only 20 mins from my front door, nasty weekend between here and Ken Climbs place. As said many times of late, BE SAFE my friends.

Sorry

Having been in an Avy myself and I'm still here: Don't blame yourself, it was an accident.

For those of you still wanting to hit the big hill right now, Don't!! Just stay at home if you can't control yourself. That's why I watched Football this past weekend.

Do not beat yourself up. It was an accident and it is what it is. Do not carry this the rest of your life, but learn from it.

If you need someone to talk to, PM me.

Godspeed!!

Ken, some peeps are going to read this and think twice. The story needed to be told straight up. You can't go up in the mountains and say you didn't know the risks. Hope Bruce is doing OK with this. Can't imagine delivering that news.

speachless.... worst thing ever to have happen with your buds. Conditions are awful, be safe........
