An obervation from a Polaris owner.

Old Scud-doo
I am glad that you are moving on and getting an Arctic Cat. I personally am tired of your whining. Plus the fact that you fail to mention that at least one or more of your polaris engines that went down was modified. I still bleed green as I have owned 13 cats since 1997, but have now owned 6 pros since 2011 with not one engine issue. Maybe I'm just lucky.
PS: Ron and his boys from the AC dealer are great.

Curiosity - how "modded" was the motor? Are you saying if you mod the Polaris motor at all it will especially go down? Cat motors seem to love the mods.

So first of all I guess those with their panties in bunch didn't read that the sled that went down was an IQ 600. I guess they are so used to hearing about the Poo 8 they ASSumed it was an 8.

Secondy, Sledr900. Since you know some of the story but not all of the story I will fill you in. I had purchased the SLP stage III kit locally. Dealer assured me if I bought from him that if there was a problem and it wasnt' because of the kit, he would take care of me. Installed kit. Sled never ran right. It would foul BPR9EIX left and right. Ruined 3 trips for me and about 4 sets of plugs. SLP was great help. They asked me how many miles were on the sled. I told them about 1100 miles and they said, "Well that's your problem. It needs to be rebuilt." OH hell no. I told him. It only has 1000 miles!!! He said, "Oh hell yes." "Every one of test sleds had to be rebuilt at about 1000 miles." I was stubborn but after another ruined sledding trip I talked dealer into taking the top end apart to find knifing pistons and chipping/flaking rings....just as SLP told me I would find. So by your take on things if I start smoking cigars tomorrow and I cough for 3 weeks so I see my doctor and he says I have cancer it was because of the cigars, right? IDFTS. But you probably heard the story from the dealer so it was to his benefit to leave some information out. Funny how the dealer side stepped any responsibility and I had to foot the bill even though the damage was there BEFORE I installed the kit. Yes, I had them put the kit on. Yes, I knew it could void my warranty. No, I didn't think the dealer rep would tell Polaris I had the SLP stuff on my motor to get my warranty voided when he knew it was pre-existing. So as someone else stated, DEALER, DEALER, DEALER. You're right and that I find is more important than the sled.

Thirdly, I started this thread in response to the some of the comments in the "Best handling sled ....but weight" thread. I believe some people were dogging cat and cat guys for saying and believing that, yes their sleds are heavier but they are reliable. If you take out any connotation and reread my original post you can see that I was stating that, hey, maybe it's true that these guys don't have many issues with their sleds. I walked into their service shop and they really didn't have any sleds in there being worked on. But instead of thinking, "Hey, that's a cool observation." The Polaris guys post in the Cat section that "Well that's because there is 10000 pro sold for every 1 summit or M8000." Ok. That must be it. You might not see the same results in your town. Didn't say you would. It's what I saw and experienced.

Yes, Jaynelson, you have a wonderful running INDY DAN LR motor in your Pro chassis. Sorry, that is no longer a Polaris product in my mind and if you want to get right down to it why if you think Polaris is so f'ing great are you not running a stock Polaris motor? Because they last so long? So in conclusion I guess if I stated I was able to get my POLARIS sled right in for service work at CAT/DOO dealer instead of waiting for a week or more at the POLARIS dealer and from the outside it would appear that they have less problems with their sleds is whining I guess I am whining. I hope I get the same whining ,I mean service, from them in the future.

ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS NOT A STORY ABOUT CRAPPY POO 8 MOTORS!!! I am not trying to start a pissing match but I guess I did. Sorry to all the other Polaris guys out there that I may have offended. Obviously, that was not my intention or I would have posted it in the POLARIS section so I could get more bang for my buck.

BTW: I may be wrong Jaynelson. You might not have an INDY DAN motor. I may have you confused with somebody else. If so, I apologize a head of time. If not, point made.

It's the dealer IMO

As others have said. It's the dealer not the manufacture. Years ago while in Wyoming I hit a rock with my 2005 Fusion. Took out the side panel, chain, gears and chain case. On the way home from WY I dropped it off at my small town Polaris dealer here in MN around 3:00 pm Friday afternoon. After I dropped it off before I even got home he called me and told me he had all the parts except for the side panel decals and I can pick it up tomorrow (Saturday) before closing 2:00 pm. Another time I had to bring in my Dragon for a re-flash. Called to make an appointment and I was told no need. Just bring it up. Drove 1 1/2 hours and backed the truck into their shop and they did it right there. The other big town Polaris dealer 25 minutes away said I had drop it off and they will get to it in the order it came in. They would not let me make an appointment. I did business with this big town Polaris dealer for at least 10 years before I switched to the small town Polaris dealer. Bigger is not always better.

Thanks for adding to the discussion instead of opposite. Learning quickly the differences between a good dealer and a not-so-good dealer.

. Your right. Dealer is huge, and it's the main reason I'm on a Cat. My dealer is good and as far as modding, he is always on top of things. A good dealer is priceless.

I had to edit it. I believe it was my 2005 Fusion and not the SwitchBack. My memory is getting to be like a poor dealer. Absent.:face-icon-small-con

I just stop & think about all those aftermarket relaibility mods we can buy for cats... indy dan motors, par motors, fix kits, piston upgrades....

oh yeah, there's only one motor that they make all that stuff for :face-icon-small-sho

I do hope the 16 motor does better though, once Poo eliminates the ability of us all talking smack about the motor, it's going to be hard for the other two jokers to deny they need to STEP THE F UP.

Anyone who claims weight doesn't matter has never spent time on a light sled.:eyebrows:

I do find it funny that around here, where the M used to be the majority of the riders, I don't ride with a SINGLE cat anymore. We used to ALL be cat guys, and now it's pretty much split between Poo & Doo. I'm hoping that will change again soon. Buddy's pro motor just blew to HE!! the other day at 2k, and I'm bored with my doo... we need to do something :D

I haven't had one of Dan's motor in either Pro - just stock. No apology required.

I didn't make reference to anything specific in this thread - just cracked a couple jokes and that's about it. If anyone read more into it than - maybe they are just projecting? It's the internet, and this thread was obviously created to perpetuate some brand vs brand banter anyways - so here we are. Don't order Indian food and get shocked when it smells like curry.

If kitty pictures are hurting too many feelings, and some would prefer an honest reply - I'll give you one. But no promises everyone will like it either.

There are 2 auto dealers of the same brand in my area. Both are roughly the same physical size, with roughly the same amount of staff, serving roughly the same customer base. Both sell roughly the same amount of vehicles, but actually dealer "B" sells a few more; due mostly to geography. Reliability is obviously not part of the comparison, and both sell a product that has above-average reliability (measurable with real numbers in the auto world). Since the product is very reliable - much more so than any flavour of snowmobile - both should service centers should be a ghost town using the logic in this thread. Of course, that isn't the case - because people still break stuff, and everything needs maintenance even if it doesn't "break."

The service center for dealer A is always very busy and difficult to get in quickly, and the service center for dealer B is not nearly as booked - and much easier to get an appointment on short notice. Dealer A's service department has simply been around longer, has a much better reputation, and stronger technicians - and dealer B is the opposite. Dealer B is not "bad," but just has never got to where dealer A is with their service center - even tho they have in the sales departments. So this is one possible/plausible explanation for what you've seen.

And another is - this is a very poor snow year/early spring for much of the west, and perhaps the service volume/wait time at your "old" dealer is significantly down from what you've seen historically as well.

Or maybe your hypothesis is totally correct. There's 3 options at a glance - and we'll never know which is correct, because there are no published numbers for sled reliability, and this is one snapshot, from one area, with a bunch of unknown variables. And that's why I figured jokes were appropriate....enough :)

This is like a fish story. It started as 5 motors which really was like one motor and two top ends. Now it's 8. Get over it man, Buy a cat and enjoy it. I wish you luck with it.

8? What the hell are you talking about? I have had 5 top ends, one of them including the bottom end too. 2 of them were when the sleds were brand new. I never said I had replaced 5 top ends. I am on my 5th top end. 2 OEM and 3 replaced. But once again I never said anything about the Pro to start this post.

But whatever.

I assumed when you said "having trouble with POO 8 Motors" that meant you went with 8 motors.

I'm not on the fan bus of anyone. I just get freakin tired of your bitching.

This entire thread is a roundabout way to say Poo can't even find time to fit you in their schedule because every motor the ever produced was crap.

Did it ever occur to you that the crappy dealer that did your top ends could be the reason you went through so many of them?

Actually it was a roundabout way to say get off your high horse to some of the Poo guys. I guess you took it as a poke at the motors, sorry. I guess a lot of people did. That was not the intention. You get tired of hearing about Poo motors I get tired of hearing about how Polaris is so freaking awesome when they have their own problems that people want to overlook. So touché I guess is in order.

You are completely right on the dealer. The full motor was their fault. Dealer told me no warranty on RV motors. So be it.

This could perpetuate into a book so I am done talking about the 8.

BTW: Loved my RMK 900. Love our RMK 600, RMK 500, and Trail RMK. Not all their motor designs are bad.
