EZ-LYNK I bought an EZ-Lynk Auto Agent 3, (Long Term Review)

So, some of you may have noticed that EZ-Lynk has been slowly taking on a greater presence here on the SnoWest Forums recently.
While big rig commercial trucks ARE their bread and butter, all the guys that work/manage/own the company are DIE HARD Sledders.
This I know up close and in person as I have had the pleasure of riding with them over the years long before we had any business relationship
If you ever walk into their facility, its literally FULL of snowmobiles.:)

So for the last few months we have been working out how they could become more than just another paid advertiser here on SnoWest.
They really want to legitimately grow their presence in the Motor Sports community, and especially the sled segment since they are all passionate sledders themselves.

To that end I bit the bullet and bought one of their units to force myself to sit down and and LEARN first hand just what this little gem IS and is NOT capable of doing in relation to our new modern high-tech sleds.

If you are riding an..

---- Arctic Cat: Catalyst
---- Polaris Matryx
---- Polaris: Axys 850 Patriot
---- Polaris: AXYS
---- Ski-Doo REV Gen 5
---- Ski-Doo: REV Gen 4

This tool might just be something you want to seriously consider adding to your inventory of tools.

Over the rest of this season, I will use this thread to share all my experiences with this tool with everyone here on SnoWest as I discover the ins and out of it.

One thing I should note right up front that is Freaking Cool about this.
One Unit can be SHARED among MANY sleds!

While I ride Doo, I can carry this in my tunnel bag and plug it in to a Poo or a Cat just as easily as my Doo.
So this little bad boy can be shared in the garage and on the snow among all the guys I ride with.
If someone in my group is throwing an error code in the back country, all it takes is the correct "interface" cable for their brand and we can all use the same device.

For me thats a rather big deal as I frequently ride with guys on other brands and that massively increases the possible value of the box.

Let the fun begin..

NOTE: I haven't even opened up the box yet:D
LOADS to learn..

My power supply shipped out this morning.
I might note.
External Power is NOT NEEDED so long as the engine is running.
So if we are in the field, on the mountain, the Auto-Agent works just fine if the motor is running.

Guessing you can't clear codes and do other procedures with the sled running so that is why it needs an external battery source?
no no
This is all about working on the sled INSIDE your garage.
If you have the ventilation so you can run the engine, then your good to go.

How does your Agent 3 fit in the weather proof case? I have the weather proof case and it is a super tight fit. It might actually crack the plastic housing if I force it in the weather proof case.

its SNUG, but I have inserted it and taken it back out now several times.
Never felt like it was in danger of BREAKING the case.
THOUGH...
The two little plastic clips that lock it into place do seem like they need to be handled with care.
I could see breaking one of those if I manhandled it.

Serves me right
Was out riding with a lady the other day on a Poo that was having issues with a Low Pressure Injector Signal all day long.
100% could have been RESET using the EZ-LYNK that I FAILED to pack in my kit that day!

After an engine failure due to an intermittent code I bought this for my G4. If I had the ability to read codes without waiting for a month for my dealer to get to it I could've fixed it, saved myself from missing out on one of the best days of the year, and the extra cost and time involved in an engine rebuild.

I kept my expectations realistic coming into it.
My initial impressions are "it's ok". It does what I need it to, but some additional service functions would be nice. Tried to use it to run my oil pump, but a prompt that said I had to have my engine running came up and wouldn't allow the function to run. Even with the engine running it didn't work. It's also worth noting that both times was with the use of external power, so that may have been a factor in the "running" scenario.
It is a lot of money for what is basically an advanced code reader, with Doo anyway. It looks like Polaris capability is much more, so I will be buying a Polaris cable as well.

For me personally I would buy it again as I hate relying on shops for anything. Sometimes I gotta figure things out on a Saturday night, or even just the simple inconvenience of getting my sled too and from the dealer, especially if it's not running.
I really like the fact that I'm not tied to a software license, or a sled brand.
I could've spent similar money on more capable software, but then I'd be tied to doo with it, have annual licensing fees, and not nearly as portable.

Data logging on the hill is kinda annoying. If I want to use the waterproof case, which I do, then I have to go through the whole wifi connection process every single time.

Also ez lynk needs to step up their marketing. There is painfully little information out there about this, especially with Doo. Seems like there is a bit of a key programming obsession, haha. There is a bunch of videos on key programming. Is this a thing? Do guys loose their keys often? In all my years I have never lost or damaged a key, not do I know someone who has.

I put this out there for anyone who is in a similar position I was in a couple weeks ago, who is looking for information on the ez lynk.
And in hopes that this gets back to ez lynk and they see it as constructive criticism (which is how it was intended).

I like the product.
I would buy again
I look forward to more capability/service functions
