6.4 Ford thinking what are your thoughts

These new tranny's are TOUGH. There is a 275 tune out now and people have been abusing them without hurting tranny's. ;)

I guess the results are going to show when you get to 80k miles like the older models.

My computer tells me I get 21 as well..........
I took a sled trip and the computer told me I was averaging 21. However, I put in 23.7 gallons and was JUST at 420 miles.
Doesn't sound like 21 to me. Comes out to 17.7.

Computers LIE.

Its amazing....the only engine nobody ever seems to ***** about, power, milage, reliabilty or price to modify is the old Cummins 12v. Its too bad you cant have your cake and eat it too! The bottom line is a ANY computer controller high HP diesel motor you WILL NOT get good fuel milage! It takes fuel to make power...lets keep the simple guys!

Well not too many people complain about the 7.3 intercooled Powerstrokes either.

I love my truck with the spartan 275 tune. Ford has had a few changes in the 6.4 since it first came out and it has helped out a lot. I have magnaflow exaust, afe, amsoil and my lie o meter says 27 doing 65. Hand calculated runs around 20 when I don't go crazy on the peddle. Check out the diesel garage for more results. You can see all three diesels on there and what the owners think of them

Thanks for all the reports looks like I am going to try a 6.4 I just wished I could find a Dealer in MT that would let the warranty slide with the Sparton system I am not hard on my trucks at all infact I baby them so I don't think I would ever have a problem but would hate to have to shell out a ton of $$ if I did.

These Spartan tuned 6.4's are seriously good trucks.

Oh I'm on my mighty Chevy high horse that 'oh no ford can make that with just a tune/exhaust' well let me find you some links...

Which is from this link

(if you look at those timeslips that guy Pahrump is running low 13's with stock gears and 38" tall tires (275 tune/intake/exhaust)

Sorry I can't find more but I don't have time. If you search around the diesel garage there are dozens of people running this spartan stuff getting 18-20 mpg and putting out over 500 RWHP with just tune/exhaust/intake. It's not heresay. I'm sorry all of you guys think yourselves to be experts on things you have very little or no experience with. Do some research next time before you start spurting out incorrect facts.

There are dozens of these graphs floating around from all sorts of different people but like I said I don't have time to find them all.

just want to see YOUR dyno sheet! if you dont have one, you havent been on the dyno and you dont know how much hp you have!
that makes you 'spurting out'....crap.

Congrats SnowJW! You won't be disappionted, as long as you aren't expecting to get 15-20mpg! These trucks are solid, i have owned alot of fords this is the nicest one yet!

Are you going to put the spartan on?? If so, I would love to check it out, as i am very seriousely considering doing this as well. Like you stated i am pretty easy on my stuff, but if something goes down it would really suck!

Get a x-plan pin before you purchase (guarantees you a sales price a couple hundred bucks under invoice, plus whatever rebates are avail). I paid a couple grand under invoice doing so, plus 0% financing last march/april when i bought mine! No haggling w/dealer! Let me know, I would love to see your truck, these trucks are sweet. Even better w/out dpf i am sure!

BS x2....raced just about all of it my life and that one is BS......

My '00 7.3 with lift and 35's only has edge tuner, 4" turbo back (no cat), minor tranny upgrades, just a great all around truck....
I pull a 37' toy hauler on the weekends to races, boat in the summer and enclosed 4 place for snow...

I only get 15-16 on highway unloaded, 10-12 loaded max, sometimes sub 10 with the hauler if it is windy as hell.
This is a bullet proof truck and just turned 50k miles and I have noticed a slight increase in mileage the last few months

I also know people saying they get 20mpg in their trucks but yet to see it myself but I agree, they could get better than they are, the technology is out there to get between 20-30 reliable mpg and cant figure out what it will take to get us to that mark.....
I'm sure Obama has a solution, just check your wallet, it's green

No Sh!t, see SARCASM.......

I average 13 mpg. I Drive about 400 miles every three days. That is city, highway, towing mix. I get about 15-16 on the freeway, and 10ish towing 7000lbs.

I encourage you to take your BS about the times, and line up with one. You will be singing a different tune, guaranteed.

lol that video cuts out right before the time is posted on the board. those time slips could be from anything he has no proof he ran in the low 13s. I call major BS an 8500 lb truck especially on 38s will run low 13s with just exhaust intake and tuner.

Megadeth, you are fairly close to me. You really should hook up and see for your self. I will need the roads completely dry, as all four will spin into third if its even remotely wet. But for whats in these trucks, it will flat blow you away.

Sure there is faster trucks, but I doubt many with such simple mods....

Oh jeese
If you don't beleive me seriously go to thedieselgarage.com and look around as there are numerous threads on this subject...

My truck? Our 6.4 only has an intake on it ;)

I had a 7.3 that we abused the crap out of with a 100+ horsepower tuner in it that had a perfectly ****ing/running transmission at 93,000 miles when I sold it. I've got an excursion with a chip that has 70k on its transmission. The Allison or Dodge tranny's won't take 550 RWHP stock but at those power levels you should really not expect more than 100k out of a tranny.

It's like i'm trying to convert Jews into Catholics around here. If you don't beleive me fine but when your *** gets smoked by a Spartan Tuned 6.4 just remember me in the background saying "I told ya so"

I already know they're fast. but it's ridiculous when these people say they ran low 13s or dynoed 600+ with just that.. no point in lying just state the facts.

That is just it, they are not lying to state facts.....

600+ would be lying, as you run out of fuel around the 600 mark....Once dual Cp3's come out for this bad boy, watch out!

It's all good, like Superdutytd mentioned, just remember him saying "I told you so" if you get the chance to line up....

Oh and on the mileage thing, my Duramax only averaged 15 with the same kind of driving. My Mega Cab Dually only gets 14. Those are both summer mileage. This Ford is not to far from that....

powerstrokes are like ethiopians everytime i see one i feel sorry for the poor bastard

Hahaha, that's funny sh!t right there!:D

The best part about it is, it's universal.....

See...

Duramaxes are like Ethiopians, everytime I see one, I feel sorry for the poor bastard!

Or

Cummins are like Ethiopians, everytime I see one, I feel sorry for the poor
bastard!

Good times....:D
