6.4 Ford thinking what are your thoughts

I own three Cummins and an 08' F350. All are tuned, the Ford has the Spartan 275 with DPF Delete. (The tranny's are holding perfectly fine.)
I like all the trucks, my 93' gets the best mileage, and my 08' Ford the worst. I get about the same mileage as my 02' F350 got, and slighty worse than my 07' Dodge 5.9l.
On the Fords, the interior is plush, the ride is fair. It tows and looks great.
I just got back from a 1600 mile trip pulling a 27' Enclosed with 5 sleds, four guys, and all our gear and fuel. My worst tank was 8, my best 10. Alot of that driving was 80mph, and up and down hills. Average dry I get 13. On the freeway around 15. If this truck would get good mileage, I dont think you could buy a better truck, period. I once owned a Duramax as well, this truck is in a different leage on most aspects besides the ride....

Have had my truck tuned since new and have 25k on it with no problems. The trans works good and shifts firm even on the race tunes. I told my dealer that i tuned it and he was fine with that, but he is a good friend. They say its untraceable but i have not had to find out yet.

Never owned a Ford Diesel but drove one for work when I was a field mech. Couldn't trust it to get me home, would either break down on the way to the job, on the job or coming home and this was for 27000 kms. I'v had my Dodge CTD since 2003 and just bought a 2008 Mega. I agree it's all the experience you have had with a product, mine was bad and others flawless. It is in the end what makes you happy with your purchase, I would and have scoured the Forums for other peoples experience. Thats why I have a DPF delete coming and a Bullydog PMT for my 6.7

Good luck with that 6.7 :p

Ford 6.4L Diesel

Snow,

The Ford is a awesome truck. Several of my Buddies have them and I have installed several Diesel Particualte Delete kits on them and u have to use a tuner or module of one kind or another. I think the trucks are awesome inside and out but I refuse to buy another Ford Diesel after the 6.0L Powerpuke. That is another story though for another time.

The new 6.4L Diesel has good power but poor fuel economy, the DPF delete kit does help but not nearly as much as with the duramax or new 6.7L Cummins. I have also installed kits on the 6.7L cummins and the duramax.

The duramax has the best power enhancements including fuel economy for removing the dpf, the cummins has the second best and the ford is last. I also own a 08 Dodge Mega Cab Laramie 3500 6 speed auto o/d 4x4 Dually
6.7L Diesel Cummins. I have removed the dpf and have stacked tuners and replaced the air intake system besides deleting the egr cooler. I have a Edge with attitude tuner and bully dog power pup besides a complete 5 inch magnaflow converted exhaust system. My truck when driving nice will get 21-23 mpg but remember it is still a dually. Others have reported better fuel economy with a single rear wheel.

Let me know if you have any questions I would be happy to advise.

with any of the new 3 makes with the common rails you could throw a programmer exhaust and intake and reach 500 on a dyno easily.. but i wouldnt daily drive them with an aggressive tune without the supporting mods.

To the rear wheels with just a Tuner, intake and DPF delete? Are you sure?

My computer tells me I get 21 as well..........

That guy claims the ford would, I know a duramax with efi live or ppe hot can and I know my truck can with smarty TNT software. I'm not positive with the 6.7 cause I dunno if they have crazy Larry yet.

Fuel Economy

I have also been told that the overhead dispalys for mpg are not accurate after the mods on all of them any more what do you guys think?

The display lies by 6-8 mpg. Fill it up and do the math. My 06 5.9 megacab dually 4x4 get's about 13-14.5 mpg with an edge economy chip set at 20 hp gain running with no load. It does improve when towing 10k to16k from 9 to 10.5 mpg.

i know my ford can, i know your dodge cannot. you will run out of fuel.......these 6.4`s are good to 600 stock fuel system.

Uhhh I can do a short dyno and pull 500 I didn't say I could push 500 all day without a lift pump.

Any videos of these 6.4s dynoing? I haven't searched youtube but haven't heard anything about it on any forums

Not being sarcastic, but I would like to see it. I know none of my Dodges can, even my 07' with the Smarty....But they could lay down some nice torque numbers though..

This is one I found with the 250 Tune.

I cannot find one of the 275 tune. There is some dyno slips here:http://www.spartandieseltech.com/forum/index.php
You will have to look around for them though. The highest I heard of with a 275 tune was around 535hp 1150ft lbs. Tuner, intake, and dpf delete.

The ford's will put out the most power of all 3 but they also weigh like 500-800 pounds more than the others.

love my duramax

i had a late 07 6.4 one of the first it was in the shop most of the time a buddy let me use his 08 duramax to pull my trailer to the big horns. thats all it took now i own a 08 duramax it has way more power than the 6.4 ford and all around just a nicer truck.

That's ironic, I had a 08 GMC, and now have an 08' Ford. Just about everthing in your post but backwards......

I couldn't find any dyno sheets in the first few pages so I gave up.. but anyways that's cool for the 6.4.. hopefully it'll be better in the long run than the 6.ohno.

So say I get a Spartan system and take if off before I go into the dealer will they warranty the motor if it takes a dump or am I better off telling them??

That is one of my only holdbacks right now to getting one.

all the stealers are getting extremely tough on chips and especially taking the dpf units off. you won't have to tell them about it, they will know. if your motor takes a dump, garunteed you'll have a helluva fight to not pay for the repair bill. they'll use anything against ya to get out of warranty.
