6.4 Ford thinking what are your thoughts

Has anyone had theres flashed? in the last couple of weeks? We dropped a friends off to get reflashed and it is supposed to get bettter mileage.. I just wonder if it really is any better...

I have had mine done about 5 times, keeps getting worse....last week was the last time, went into exhaust cleansing mode for over 100 miles...SWEET NOT!!!!!

Called the dealer, told him what it was doing, of course he said hmmm he will have to look into...but he did tell me to check my oil???? He stated that when in exhaust cleansing mode it will push fuel into the OIL!???
He stated that Ford says that up to a quart + of fuel in the oil between oil changes is acceptable????

Not sure what to think, my truck is a great looking truck but as everyone else in the post is saying frequent fuel stops.

Mine is stock yet, but have had as low as 6 and as high as 14...I would get rid of it but who wants it? Guess I am stuck with it, guess will have to do a DPF delete, it may help some.

i have an 08 with a dpf delete and straight pipe off turbos, Truck of coarse has good power as they all do. My question for anyone is are you burning coolant as well? I have to top up every 5000km? Asked ford about it they tell me its normal but have no answer why? Ask around and it does seem to be a common thing? Shortly after we dumped all the emission crap outta the loop I got 20 mpg @ 80 mph hand calced empty. Have never seen it again but do consistantly get 18 is on hiway empty. In tow 10-12mpg.

I have had a 08 F350 6.4 since February of 07 and the only problem that I have had is a leaking front pinion seal. It now has 20,000 mi. on it and 14,000 mi. of those were Spartan tuned. I have both the Spartan 250 and 275 as well as 175 hp shot of spray. When more fuel delivery aftermarket components come out we will see what the major breaking point is on this combination, so far the trucks are holding up pretty good considering the upgraded power. With the tuner the TCM is also reprogrammed to help accommodate the extra power. It alters shift points and firmness. I have not had mine on they dyno to see what it does but they are impressive. If you do a search you will see several trucks well into the 500rwhp numbers on just fuel with a tuner, CAI, and deletes. If you do buy one I would definitely do the deletes and the CAI, it makes a huge difference. It is sad that one person asks a question and gets all of this mine is better than yours B.S. They all make good ones and bad ones. It comes down to personal preference to what your needs are, they all have their strengths and weaknesses. There are several different forums that you can go to and read up on things (The Diesel Garage, Ford Truck Enthusiasts, The diesel Shop) just to name a few. I would definitely buy another in a hart beat. Good luck if this is the route that you choose.

We have many happy customer both with the DPF and with out.
From our experiences the best fuel mileage gains to be seen are with out the DPF but we are talking full exhaust removal from turbo all the way back and running a 4" muffler. while using the SCT software. Though we have some that want to keep it in tact and are using the Edge Evolution. Simple to use and easy to change settings.

We are currently getting very close to releasing a EGR block off plate to help even more with the longevity of these motors. This is a very stout motor and people should see great life out of them with proper maintenance and care. I do see these things failing in the long run due to the amount of soot that the EGR is allowing into the motor. According to Ford some of the recent reflashes / updates tack care of this concern but IMHO any soot allowed back into the motor is not healthy.

from my field experience any engine gas/diesel 2 or 4 stroke that has any egr or cv injestion will cause loss of engine life, especially with my plant engines that run 24/7

Ford injects fuel into the combustion chamber during the exhaust stroke to get it to the DPF and to burn out it's contaminates. I am pretty sure that Dodge does it this way to. When it is injected during the exhaust stroke it will wash the rings out a little causing fuel to get into the oil. I believe that GMC injects the fuel into the exhaust system instead of during the exhaust stroke. This is a lot better design in my opinion so that the rings don't get washed out at all. If you do the deletes you will get rid of the problems all together and get some of the mileage back.

I have an 08 F450 DRW build 3 with 4:30's. I tow a 28' toy hauler and it's around 12,000 lbs loaded. last trip snow mobiling was in 4 wheel drive there and back (300 miles) and I got 8.4 (hand calculated). Around town I get around 9.5. Trip to Fairbanks in January (800 miles) I got 14 and was in 4 wheel drive due to road conditions all the way. For me, I am VERY happy with this truck. It's 9900 lb beast, low geared monster and not built for mileage. I'd get another when this one wears out.

LOL...You make 1 mpg sound like peanuts! On the fuel economy that my truck gets thats roughly 5% and like 750 dollars worth of fuel per year on average. Hmm 750 x 5years= is $3750 savings, theres your 1mpg dude! I dont run a new truck JSCC...im happy with 23 mpg on the highway in the summer!

It's getting warmer and my mileage is up to 14.5 average.........Still not where I want it but its now better than my Mega Cab.
