6.4 Ford thinking what are your thoughts

i had one in the 450 and hated it! i may have just got a lemon, but took it in the a#$% and got rid of it and bought a dodge. I have never owned a dodge and now have 2 and they so far (knock on wood) maybe the 2 best trucks i have had. Did the dpf delete on both
 
keep in mind Spartan Diesel was shut down by the EPA and they are no longer in buisness from what I understand. Be aware if you see there product on sale!!!!

That's one he!! of a rumor. Do you have any facts to back that up, or is it just hearsay?
If the EPA shut down a business for providing performance enhancing off-road products, that require you to sign a waiver stating its for off-road use only, then there is a TON of business's to be worried........See just about every aftermarket company in the country....

That is too bad about the Ford. But I do like my Dodges too!
 
couple of my ridin buds got 08 f350 6.4 s both get 8 mpg, both stock, nice trucks but my 07 duramax gets 12 pullin the same trailer, both 08 s got 39k miles on em, pretty sad

yea if you put the spartin super duper tuner they get 20 pullin and the brew coffee for ya in the glove box also! i think they make like 500 billion hp also so when the roads get icy you dont have to worry because you just kick in the flamethrowin tailpipe afterburner and it will fly.....no **** i've seen it!
blah blah blah! and when you add the downloader and 200, 300, 400 foot lbs of additional torque fmc will fix anything that breaks because they are doing so well that they wont fight with you at all that you removed the dpf and even know that is tampering with the emissions controls and is against the fed laws...................i know because i heard it from my ford salesman! they never lie and they know everything under the sun! oh yea and he told me that dodge and gm are junk......so thats it you better sell them before they explode and add to global warming and kill the snowmobiling season for years to come!!!!!!!
i'm done now! my sled wont run and i'm pissed!

Lets put new diesel trucks on the road that get 10 mpg and refine a chit load more oil because of it...makes all kinds of sense eh? Pretty sure the old engines regauardless of make were far better for the enviorment than this new crap! Bravo tree huggers Bravo!!!!

From lots of experience you can never tell a true ford person anything bad about there ford or that there is anything out there that is better. Most stock 6.4l get around 7.6 to 11 mpg depending on f450-f250 and outside temperature. In alaska most of them in the winter get 3-4mpg. There is a reason the car hauling guys pretty much all use dodge's. Navistar and ford have now come to a settlement and ford will NO longer be using there engine's after this year. For a reason. My statistics come from every single customer i talked to coming in my dealership to service or fix there 6.4l and i asked every single one. i write service at a major ford dealer and personally absolutely love the 6.0 and the 6.4l combined they totalled up to more than half of what i made last year. and no the tranny's not covered 5/100,000 btw.
 
At least Ford is not asking us to bail them out like GM and Crysler.This will be the second?? time for them. I know, we should send the ceo's of both to rehab, if they are to receive the bailout. I am sure with all those federal dollars you chevy and dodge truck lovers will be able to shut the doors without the rattles they currently have!! And maybe if you are lucky you aslo might get 20+mpg. BTW my 08 gets 15 empty 10 towing with Banks air and exhaust.
 
And since everyone is throwing out milage numbers, my 05 Sick Leaker Duty gets 15-17mpg empty driving as nice as i can, 11mpg towing 8000#s, and 8mpg towing 11k#'s, running custom tunes via SCT. Truck weighs in at give or take 8200 pounds, 6" lift and on 37's. Yes its had head gaskets, head studs, oil cooler, half the turbo and EGR delete done, but i was actually glad to find an issue, once i found a place to honor warranty on my Yank truck (imported).

BAhaha, You took the journalgazette as fact. That article has nothing to do with facts. It's there opinion thats stated, nothing more. Ford has not taken a dime yet. They were given a line of credit if needed.

Well, I've got three guys I go riddin' with who have all had ford 6.0's and 6.4's. Each one of them have had a 7.3 in their lifetime....all three would rather have the 7.3's back. I like the ford trucks, interior, tranny, ect. Just haven't seen a lot of good luck with the newer motors, and thats just seeing what my buddies have been through. One of them still drives a 6.4, which is in the shop for a throw-out bearing in the manual tranny, the other two bought new duramax's and seem to be pretty happy with them. I've personaly had good luck with the gm's, but they still have their little glitches. I think we had an 01 dmax that went through the injector failure problem at about 140000 miles. Other than that they hold up pretty good for all the abuse they take farmin' and ranchin'. One thing I will say about the ford though, the front ends do seem to hold up better. We knock the front-ends out of our chevy's every 45000 to 50000 miles....mostly because we torsion lift to clear 285's and it puts more wear on the ball-joints and tie-rod ends. At least you can clear a 285 on a ford or dodge without all the issues a gm rig has.

I assume ford is updating any problems they are having with the 6.4 though right?? If that's the case maybe try to find an updated one and drive the hell outa it!:D
 
Says the fella from Saskaberia. At least when that Dodge craps the bed, it wont be too hard to push home on the praries, with a good tail wind it'll probably even coast pretty quick too :D
 
good thread! my buddy has an 08 6.4 with four inch lift and 37s. went from helena to boise and back, over eight hundred dollars in fuel. my 6.7 with leveling kit and thirty sixes did the same exact trip the very next weekend for under four hundred dollars. seems smart to pay at least ten grand more and at the same time use twice as much fuel. .02
