I have had air and coil overs. I am 155 out of the shower, and they both have advantages. The air shocks are very progressive and do an excellent job of resisting bottoming out. Coil overs are capable of a more cushy ride when I want that, but are more prone to bottoming out. I have had both coil over Walker Evans and coil over Fox QS3 shocks. They are both adjustable, but the Walker Evans are very difficult to adjust the rears after they are all iced up. I currently have Fox QS3 coil overs with preload set to run soft (#1) for most riding, and move to #2 or #3 if a heavier rider or trashy conditions exist. In summary I think coil overs can give a better ride for lighter riders and air becomes more desirable as rider weight goes up
