2023 cat. Where is it?

When's cats 23 reveal? A bunch of 22 m8000's showed up at our dealer yesterday. All 165x3 a bunch with atac. All 16.9-17.9...so I just gotta ask cause iam honestly new to shopping for a snowmobile . Why are cats so expensive if they are heavier and hqve less displacement and chassis is not as good and running boards and alot guys don't like alpha and they are kinda plain looking and other things I read. I really like them for no real reason but now that iam looking hard I don't get it. Even the damn yamaha that's the EXACT SAME SLED is 14.4...so what gives. I'd actually buy one if it where just a little less. Theres somehow 16 sleds arriving now. 50 degrees on Saturday

Atac adds a chunk of $ over the hardcore with standard qs3 coil overs. I paid less than that out the door with some cat accessories, bumpers, oil, belt for my hardcore. Is an anoyance that Cat dosnt come with a spare belt.

Lots of guys bitch about the cat boards holding snow. Pin’d has some inserts that don’t require replacing the whole board and with the way tons of people complain Im not sure why cat hasnt just made the boards center section more open more like how pin’d has it. Wouldn’t take redesigning the whole board and be an easy quick retool to make people happy. Some guys Ive seen just take out some of the cross pieces with a zipper wheel to make em more open.

Don’t get into analysis paralysis. Im the same way so I know what you are going through lol All brands have good and bad points. And minor things that are more personal preference. There is no perfect sled and after riding one for a bit there are alot of mods you can make to tailor to your preferences.

Seems the Alpha is a love or hate thing. Also seems many guys(not all) that have gotten used to it like it. Does better in some things worse in others. Life is all about compromise.

The price is one of the reasons I switched. Not only that, warranty length is a thing too. Yeah yeah yeah, you don’t need a warranty with Cat. Partially true, but, up until this year Clutches are a real problem. And blow them just right, you get to have crank issues. Need warranty for that.

So is that it then ? The engine? Is that what you guys like? Then why do you want a new un tested one lol. In all honesty, how light can you make a 22 m8000?
Engine Reliability is a big factor, they also have the most durable chassis, the best mtn tracks on the snow, arguably the best factory suspension. Contrary to what you read on the internet cat is not the heaviest, that award goes to doo, and as for engine cc argument, that is also just an argument for keyboard warriors as the cat 800 makes roughly the same power as the competitions NA 850 engines and cat seems to put the power to the snow better than the competition also. Me personally I like the handling and feel of the cat chassis over the others as well. I could probably get used to the poo chassis, but don’t want the risk of losing engine reliability. As for doo, I can’t ride those awkward sobs. Cat is not as far behind as the internet would have you believe. Sure the main chassis is from 2012 but it’s been refined to the point it’s not even close to the same sled. Cat is also not the only brand to run a chassis for a long time with just updating what needs it. Doo ran the same chassis from 2008-2016 and nobody batted an eye. For some reason the other brands make a plastic change on the same chassis and it’s “revolutionary” but when cat does it they get drug through the mud. It doesn’t matter what cat does, it’s never good enough but Polaris has been putting out garbage engines for 20 years and it gets looked past and people make excuses for them.

Those should be $14,000 sleds IMO. I would definitely wait and snowcheck at this point if I were you.

Cats pretty much sell exclusively to the die hard cat guys who have their heads in the sand and have since the 90s. No appeal for anyone to switch over from the other brands. Alpha got a few guys to jump ship, but they quickly realized it was a gimmick. At this point the only thing they’ve really got going for them is the track- that thing works.

Amen!

There ya have it. Well said and articulate. The power of social media and being victimized therein lol! Ok well ****e....buy once cry once or trash a older model learning hmmm.....learning is good. But what if I buy now and 23 is revolutionary!?! Lol...

Why are there so many 2018 and 19 for sale with new motors? Is it the primary coming apart that take it out or the motor it self? Asking for a friend.

I owned a 2018 and 2020 but didn’t keep them long enough that any issues came up.

March 1 I'm hearing for Cat's unveil. I feel like the Bozeman dealer is over pricing their machines. Friend was looking there and when he told me what they wanted for what he was looking at I told him to look elsewhere. Found himself a early release 2022 Hardcore 165, no ES for $13K with 30 miles on it. Probably the best deal I'd seen. I like the Cat chassis. It's tough and has good suspension without twitchy front end characteristics. I tend to mod a lot of the sled, but having a good foundation is important. Especially being a big guy that can hammer on them. Good tracks, good belt life (although clutches don't have a good track record), vertical steering. I feel like Polaris is a 1 year disposable sled for what I would do with it. Ski-doo is decent and I could ride one, but there's a front end twitch I don't like. You can shave over 40lb off a Cat for $3500 and have a sub-500lb ready to ride weight sled (about 405 dry). Just wish Cat would take some of that weight off to start with.

That's the question asked about half a million times about this time every year... "do I buy now or wait for the new?" No way to know until the new stuff is released.

Snow ingestion from poorly sealed intakes for most is my guess, the first version of the Ctec had some rod bearings and PTO crank bearings go out, and probably a few exploded clutches bending or throwing the crank out of phase.

Goridedoo

You need some coffee and to pull up your pants this morning, that last post is showing a bit more ahole than you typically doo.
Painting with strokes that broad usually just gets **** all over you.
Seen your knowledge over the years and respect you more than that.
I ride with a lot of ex poo and doo guys on cats.
We’re all pretty aware of pros and cons of each.

Ok last cat/gear question. The hardcores have coil overs the m8 had air. Which would be better for a light rider? I'll be all of 155-65 with two peanut butter sandwiches and all my gear.

Oh don’t ask that.

Completely preference.

Mine is air because all my sleds get ridden by multiple people with a range of 200 lb variation. I keep notes on pressures to change to if I know a certain rider will be on it for a few rides.
Quick and easy to adjust with air.

I mostly stand by what I said ?

Don't take it too personal... I enjoy coming over here to harass you guys occasionally.

The Alpha works really good, I won't argue that. But it's really not special in any way other than that it does get on the snow and go very well for what it is.

I hope you guys get a new chassis, a 900, and a turbo option. If it worked like the current sled, with some serious refinement, and a significant HP bump it could be a badazz machine.

Just gotta throw this out there while I am here- I really don't understand the obsession with the Cat 800... its fine, thats it. Its really not special in any way. If there were a motor to be obsessed with its the 850 Etec IMO... its ridiculously snappy, buttery smooth, and extremely reliable. Yes my username implies that I am Doo guy, I have not owned a Doo since 2011. Been rocking the unreliable, weak Poo's- and have had nothing but great experiences.

I really don't need a new chassi or a new engine, i want a hardcore with the pro mountain stuff on (seat, runningboards) i want the flimsy plastic prongs in front to not be there, a new gauge (doesn't need to be fancy, just needs to be a bit more high res and cool looking), slimmer headlight, half the hight of current (get it to look like the headlight delete from mountain fit hoods)

Then I'm good to go ?

I knew you were thick skinned and stir things or I wouldn’t have worded as I did, also recall your username throw off over the years. If I misread and you’re closet crying right now I apologize.

The 800 is extremely easy to maintain and pull more power from, starts first pull warm, third cold. I typically own between 10-15 sleds at a time and I don’t spend time on motors. I did replace one primary this year for cracks at 3800 miles. I run used sleds only due to volume, currently have six over 5k on original motors. I also typically have 8-10 kids out under age of 20 at a time between kids and friends so it’s nice to throw them on sleds I trust.

Cats have been extremely good to my repair budget.
