2013/14 Big Horns N/S Snow Conditions

Conditions

Sorry all. Due to a technical glitch we have not been able to post updates.

We have a base of about 30" and 2-3" of new snow has fallen in the last 2 days.

It is snowing again this morning and is currently 10°F. We got about an inch overnight and hopefully more to come.

North Horns

Good early season Snow was found all around the western part of 14a. Pretty even 3-4ft in the trees. With areas of deeper snow able to be easily found. Common meadows are tracked But the little off the road spots easily found are a very Nice surprise with good deep early season powder and no tracks. Had an AWESOME lunch at Wyoming High Country. Good food even better price!! Great Day for a search and rescue training!!

Rode up Dayton gulch yesterday and was able to find some good snow. Out in the open the snow is thin and hard but still a lot of pockets of powder back in the trees if you venture away from the trail. I will see if I can figure out how to post some pictures from my phone later.

On another note I had a similar experience at Elk View Lodge as mtsummitx posted earlier in this thread. A lot of times when it's cold outside and we have ladies along we will park at Elk view and get dressed inside where it's warm. That was our plan on Sunday as well as getting some breakfast there. As soon as I parked an older gent came over and asked if we were checking in. I told him yes, checking in for a day of riding! Now the parking lot was pretty much empty at this time but this guy said that he was the manager and that unless I was staying there that I would need to go park in the public parking lot at Bear Lodge. I then told him that we were planning on getting some breakfast there and probably eat there after we were done riding for the day. He said that didn't matter that parking was for motel guests only. After a little unfriendly back and forth exchange I left and went over to Bear Lodge and parked in the public area. It just frustrated me because I have stayed in the hotel a couple of times, ate there numerous times, bought fuel there, drank in the bar, but apparently I'm not welcome to park there. And once again the parking lot was pretty much empty on a Sunday morning.
I know this is a snow conditions thread and that mtsummitx got flamed a little for a post like this but I still wanted to share my experience.

Thanks for the heads up

Looks like we will be skipping the horns this year. We usually hit the horns once a year and stay at elk view but if the new manager is that much of a dill hole I don't want to even risk staying there either.

I unbanned myself for 1 minute and 30 seconds to post here. You posted this on the wrong thread mtnclimber. This belongs on the New Big Horn snow thread. You are going to get hammered here by the Clicks. I am glad that others are not blind and will post piss poor service. I think I would have told the idiot to pound sand and parked there anyway. A customer is a customer whether he is spending the night or spending 50 to 100 dollars to eat. Back to my banning.

Conditions

Looks like a Bluebird Christmas Day! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!!

Our guests told us that yesterday was probably the best day of riding they've ever had!

The day started windy and visibility was marginal, that gave way to sunshine by the afternoon.

I went to town at about 8:00AM and the drifts on 14A were over the tracks of the Snowcat! The biggest challenge was the "maintained" part of 14A. It wasn't! Even by the time I came back up the hill at 4:00PM it had not been plowed.

Not sure of the highway conditions today, so be aware if you plan to come up!

Have fun and be safe!
