2012/13 Snowy Range snow conditions

North and west of Quealy Lake/Warming Hut it looks like? That is a great spot to measure snowfall IMO.

That looks about right. I agree. Good spot to measure snow. I think they are getting it calibrated yet.

Forecast

Forecast isn't looking good from what I can tell....I'm hoping to make a trip out Dec. 13th. Hopefully they start getting some snow!!!

Ok I'm bored, it's too windy to fly over the mtn and get ya some pics, so I drove up and took a few. First one is Greenrock, 2nd is Marie, and the 3rd is Headquarters park.
Threre's a couple of tracks going up Marie, and some in the flats around HQ park. If a guy was close and wanted to do some testing you could probably put a few miles on the backside.

I heard the next week and a half to two weeks is suppose to be warm then after that it's suppose to get cold and snowy got my fingers crossed

This is killing me. We have our ammonia done and the guys can do dry without me and there is no freeking snow.:face-icon-small-con

we are aiming for coming out on the 13th dano. Guna see how many drive shafts we can break on the new pro's. Ya think a guy should leave boost off for a trip or two. I know you will say the whole season haha see ya soon

Hey thanks for this update! I've ridden a few times in the snowies since I moved to CO (rented from Albany Lodge) but I finally bought my own snowmobile this year. I'm working on a map of landmarks/popular spots/etc... for the snowy range riding area and wondered if you could tell me where "Marie" and "Headquarters park" are? I am familiar with the Greenrock parking area. Once I have some points on the Google Map I will post up the link here for others. Thanks!

Stevie, you guys are STILL playing with hairdryers? Sheesh:bounce: Unless it snows a bunch I'd bring the kids" 120"s, you can just pick'em up and carry them from drift to drift.

Lake Marie/hillclimb is the SW end of the big avvy area on the map, just north of U trail/hwy 130. Thats west of the T/U intersection and east of the U/N intersection.

Headquarters is near the U/N interestion I believe, but I could be way off on that.

Dan, Lake Marie is one of the first climbing hills off of Hwy 130 after coming over Libby Flats from Greenrock parking lot. Very popular spot to congregate.
HQ park is on the backside where the trail heads north off the highway.

edit. Opps, fingers are slow, I see Coldfinger beat me to the punch

Just like coyote mans motto, "go ugly early". Crank to full boost early...

Awesome guys, thanks a lot. Here's a first cut so far. I know the trail map has most of this stuff on it already but this will be handy to have in the forum and without having to crank open a PDF and scroll around hunting for something. If you think of anything else to add let me know what it is, and the coordinates or approximate location. It would also be helpful if you let me know if anything that I added so far is wrong or incorrectly placed. Just let me know and I'll fix it up!

NYColoraDan - is there any way that can you add a kmz file to your online map?

If so - here is the link to the Snowy Range Trail Map overlay that I did on Google Earth. Download the "pdf" file (that is the extension I had to use to get the forum to allow me to upload it - it is not really a pdf file) - change the extension to ".kmz" (see directions on the thread below). That way you will have your points AND the trails online.

So once we get the map and points together it would be nice to just dump a single file onto a GPS unit.

tmk- thanks for that file. I downloaded it and tried to overlay it on the map but it didn't work. I thought it was actual waypoint data from your GPS that you recorded while you were riding but then I fired up Google Earth and found out that it is actually just a georeferenced image saved as a KMZ file. It works great in Google Earth but I think for the web-based Google Maps I am using it's not going to happen. Maybe if someone had accurate waypoint data in KMZ or KML format I could try that? Maybe you have some of that? Let me know.

I don't have any waypoints saved in the KMZ - but I do have a bunch of that stuff on my GPS (trail intersections, warming huts, the trails themselves, etc.) All of that would be on my GPX file (Garmin specific right?). So what I would have to do is take those and get them over to the KMZ format somehow. I don't think there is a way to save a KMZ or a KML from Basecamp is there? Does anyone have any tips/tricks on this? I've never looked into it.
