2012/13 Snowy Range snow conditions

Sand Lake snotel is showing a 6" dusting last night for a total of 23".

Might even have a base this year!!! I'm starting to twitch:face-icon-small-hap.

Might want to take a sedative for that twitch.:D I drove up to Greenrock Tuesday morn, I'd estimate 2" to 4" at the turnaround. I just checked WyDot, 130 is still open:face-icon-small-sad, we had another skiff here at the house overnight.

Thanks Dan.:face-icon-small-sad On the way to the drug store.

I threw together a little Google Map with the Snowy Range SNOTEL sites on it for quick access, plus it allows me to see exactly where on the mountain the report is from in relation to the forest service roads and other landmarks. Click a blue pin on the map then click the link that says "View Data". It should bring you to a page that has the last 7 days worth of data on it. Here's the link:

Do you think there is enough snow for a little road ride? Maybe by Sand Lake? Just rebuilt an engine and want to run it a bit to see where I'm at for a tune. Snotel shows 23" at Sand Lake, is that reliable?

It depends on what the wind and sun do. I went to Sand Lake last year in November when it said 22" and there was definitely not 22" at sand lake. We literally could have driven all the way to the top. The sand lake snotel is hidden in a tight pack of trees. Sometimes drifts in there if windy and does not get very much (if any) sun. If you do go though, post up some pics!

My guess is not quite yet. I plan on driving into our cabin tomorrow night in that area. I might have to chain up but until we get some storms every 3-4 days for a bit, there are usually many stretches of dirt where the wind howls through!

Two weekends ago I could drive anywhere I wanted, the only problem was ice from being packed down.

I drove up toward sand lake from I80 yesterday afternoon, went for a quick spin on my sled. It wasn't deep at all, but its plenty for cruising a road. I don't know how close to the lake I got, I just drove until it seemed like enough snow to not have my skis hit the rocks in the road. Its crusty snow!

We found a few honey holes on Saturday. It just needs a good dumping on top of this and we would be set. Looks like more warm and no snow this week though, grrr. No damage, but we were being very careful and took turns only where I knew there was open meadow grass underneith and not rocks.
