Has anyone been to the southern bighorns? If so, how is it. Pics would also help. Thanks

Visitors

Thanks to everyone who came by this weekend to visit and support us. Nice seeing all those familiar faces showing up. I got to ride a 2013 RMK today with a 163"...man what a blast AND what a difference from the 600 short track we have at the lodge!!!!! I have to have a bigger sled!

We are starting to see people make reservations...even had a walk in couple. Don't forget about our specials.....

Make a reservation by 15 Feb and receive a $50 credit.

Make a 3 night reservation...one of those days being a mon, tues or wed and receive a $100 credit...3 nights at $139 = $417 - $100 = $317...that's $105 plus tax, a night.

Had a couple get stranded for a few hours this past week. Groomer found them about 10pm, in a snowstorm. Both their sleds were buried.

Had a few avalanches near fiberglass hill, the valley around there and then on 14A at Observation point just past fiberglass hill. Please be careful out there.

We rode on Saturday and Sunday, snow was really deeeep but no base, right to dirt when you trenched and lot's of land mines. Matt hit a fence post and jammed it through his running board, we were able to dislodge it, 15 minutes later he hit a stump and took out the same right side running board on his pro, mtpwdrchick might have a pic on her phone. Posted a pic of Corey and his wife Dawnie, nice people running the place and good hosts. Some pics for ya.

It was great to meet you guys at The High Country Lodge! My sled is sitting at the the dealer, awaiting an estimate.

Corey and his wife do a great job running the lodge and are very hospitable. If you like something you only have to ask once, and it is there for you automatically during the rest of your stay. They will go out of their way to help you have a great time.

headed out there tonight, what's it like? snow still good or getting set up? How far out do we have to get to get away from the tracks?

Spoke to Corey at Wyoming High Country today and booked the 23, 24 & 25 this month. We are really looking forward to that weekend. Sounds like a great place with all the positive feedback posted here.

What kinda temps can we expect at Wyoming High Country? Lovell looks pretty mild but elevation is alot different too.

Watching the snotel the highs have been in the 20's and low's in the teens. The forecast shows highs in the teens and lows in the single digits coming into next week. Maybe a couple inches of snow too!

Thanks Wysteph. What town should I search for to get a better forecast than Lovell for Wyoming High Country.

It looks like another foot or so may be coming this weekend!:D

A group of 4 of us are heading up there a week from today & staying @ Bearlodge. Last room on the ground floor. Anybody feel free to stop by for a beer or two. I cannot wait to get up there!!! :face-icon-small-coo

Update from Lodge

Hi all,

Sorry about not updating much the last week...had the pleasure of riding an 800 Pro 163" in deep stuff...boondocking...going on old logging roads and finding a 5 mile wide valley that only 1 person had been in since the last storm...man it was great!! Sent some Cooke City guys that way yesterday and they were happy. Looks like no one had been in there since me and my group. Still great riding. That will be my first stop after a new snow from now on.

We did get about an inch of snow at the lodge but nothing big...most of it blew away the next day. Temps have been in the 30's....sunny till this morning...starting to cloud up...expecting 8-10 inches this weekend.

We have rooms available this weekend but are actually booked up next weekend, and the weekend after, then dead again.

Anyone here going to be at Wyoming High Country the weekend of the 23rd? We are ditch riders coming from Minnesota for the weekend and are looking forard to some deep snow riding.

Myself and three others are gonna be staying at wy high country from wed. the 20th through sunday am Also from Mn two of 4 have been to the Mtns, only one 154" two 136" and a shorty Really looking forward to the deep snow getting stuck is fine w me considering the snow we have over here. We've got a cabin ,ages between 37-45 fun guys if you wanna stop by and say hi feel free. Was wondering if beacons were a big concern or if its mostly meadows/open areas first trip for the group. Been to Cooke so I understand the importance of them just the other three dont own and dont know if we can or need to rent? Tips anyone? thanks

You can get into any type of terrain you want. We always ride with beacons, probes and avy bags when we are any where west. Its just peace of mind knowing you all have the correct gear and know how to use it if something would happen. The more prepared you are the better. Haven't been to the Horns in over a year but it sounds like its getting better. Sure would be nice to stop there instead of driving 4 hours further.

slides

it was sliding last week I would rather have one that not have one. I have seen 1 bad avy in the horns. With the recent snow it is not real stable.

Wicked Pissa There's 4 of us going. I'm 43 and never ridden in the mountains. Skied in the mountains but not ridden. Abosolutely stoked for this. My buddy that's going has been to several places then it's my 15 year old son and his 16 year friend. The 16 year old has ridden the mountains several times. His dad guided trips so is sending all his avy gear with beacons and all. We've got a mix of sleds from a 146, 146, 144, & my sons got a 128 firecat that we are changing the track on this weekend for a little more paddle. He's a good rider so I think he'll do fine. We will have to meet. What part of MN are you from? We are from Nisswa area which is North of Brainerd.
