2012/13 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

Thread Rating
5.00 star(s)
I was looking at snotel data for the northern Horns for last year on the 27th of January. Just about all sites showed twice as much snow last year on that date as they were showing yesterday. On the 27th last year Burges showed right at 36 inches where as yesterday Burgess was at 18 inches. What a sad sad winter. I hope it starts piling up from here on in. If they get what the NWS is predicting for the max for the next 3 or 4 days they should get 2 more feet. Fingers are crossed.

Snow totals

From Fiberglass Hill to just other side of observation point along south H trail (14a)10+ inches.

At Wyoming High Country Lodge 9 inches. Not too much trafiic today.

Granite pass looked real good too. Didn't see any tracks when I came thru about 2pm.

Skies cleared at 4pm and can now see stars.

Really though, sweet pics, thanks for posting!

Already received about twice of what was forecast for today and tomorrow in Worland. Hopefully that correlates to what is happening on the Horns right now!

Snow

30 inches in the last 26 hours!! Still coming down.

14a might be a little hard to get up, to get to parking lot...may have to park farther down and ride up. My short trax sank in snow yesterday, thanks to 3 locals who happened by our lodge and helped me get it out. Watched them play in meadow out front and then dissapear in snow..it's deep. I'm suppose to ride to parking area to pick up guests luggage today but not sure I'll make it. 8 inches new snow last night on top of groomed trail won't make it easy for me. Oh the troubles I must endure...lol...lol:face-icon-small-ton

Ride

Went to PICK UP my guests for the weekend and made it about 2 miles down 14a (LL West) before hitTing the 6 ft drifts and bounced sled right off the side of the road...got stuck. Dug myself out made it 4 ft to edge of road and got stuck...sled disappeared into snow. :face-icon-small-con

Walked a mile towards guests in parking lot and let them know. 2 other riders showed up (wife sent them looking for me) and gave me a ride to my sled. We dug me out while 1 rider tried to turn around to lay tracks and pull me out...he got stuck. :face-icon-small-dis

Got Him out then my sled out then 4th rider went to turn around and he ended up stuck, straight up and down in the drifts...his buddy went to turn around to get him out and he got stuck....got him out got his buddy out (had to roll it) then all headed back to lodge. :face-icon-small-blu

Guest wanted to play out front of lodge before I could warn him about 4ft drop into creek...got stuck...we all got him out and now they are playing in the hills above and around us.....BRING YOUR SHOVELS!!!!!!

Time for a new sled Cory! Glad to hear you got some snow, bought the wife a new pro yesterday so we will be seeing you soon as we get back from vacation. Save some snow for us!
