2011/12 Togwotee snow conditions

I know some hardcore sledding buddys who live out there and they have not been out once yet this year, they don't what to wreck stuff.
Sound like if you have to go they have snow but beware theres land mines everywhere because of the low snow.
Went out to the horns over turkey week told low snow, they were right on lot of broke *hi* that week.
With that said yes they do have snow now is it good, everybodys good may be different but to drive 14-18 hours and it sucks may not be worth it.
Hope they get dump on soon!

Not sure where Spicer minnesota is ?? I am just south of Rochester minnesota and we have absolutly no snow here ....The way i look at it ,there is snow out there in Tog ...Its not what we are use to but hell its more then we have here ...I say go for it and have some fun ...We are heading out there on the 6th

Spicer is located smack dab in between Willmar and St. Cloud. We don't have a flake either. However, in my opinion it is just too far to drive and too expensive to take a chance with crummy conditions. Not when this will be my only trip out (first baby coming in March!) and the entire winter is still ahead of us.

1st baby coming in march???? You better go then.....You will be tied down for the next 18 years ....LOL ..... Congrats on the 1st baby

heypal, not to side with the lodge but, you cant expect early season rates for mid season prime time lodging.

with that said we are in the same boat as you. long time lodge customers, made our reservation with the early season discount for jan 9-13. and looking at past and current snotel numbers, you can see we are WAAAY BEHIND last years epic early snows and we are below the last 5 year figures as well.

we are in the process of switching dates as well. and got the same thing, cancel and lose the deposit to the tune of about 250 each. reschedule, and pay the in season rate with no discounts. even last season, the lodge put out an email about this time offering 25% discount off rates.

we dont want to cancel but, vacation time is too precious to waste in marginal conditions. and also, we have tore equipment up every year we have been there, some our fault, some the sled mfgs fault, and some the low snows fault. personally i am tired of paying to fix the below the bumper, damage from unseen objects under the snow on lower snow years.

i am really hoping the lodge sees this and understands that we are there for the steep and deep terrain, and not just to ride the trails. i understand their no snow guarantee doesnt mean we will have fresh powder each and every day but, they have to be realistic about the amount of snow on the snotel and use that as a guide to the low snow guarantee guideline.

if they dont, they will alienate alot of current, past, and future lodge patrons. i wish you good luck. ski

to bad everywhere is pretty low on snow except southern CO. Forecast doesnt look that bad though, another day or 2 with no snow, then snow in the forecast everyday for quite a while. I am no weather expert, but it appears another 1-2 ft of snow will be falling within the next week or so Hard choice to make. Luckily our group still has another 2+weeks before we head out. Good luck and let it snow!!

Lack of the lodge working with us will result in me not going back there as well.

Bad year to start no snow guarantee , we've herd this is the worst snow in 20 years

Eric,

The storm coming through is looking good up there. I think you guys guys should be good. The jet stream is starting to breakdown back to normal for snow.

shawn,

snotel looks pitiful

almost 2 feet behind last years epic numbers. they have less on the snotel than they did 2 years ago, when we were there with you and the mrs. we were supposed to go out the 6-16th of jan. i know it will probably be ok but, i cant take that chance being 30 hours one way drive away. takes us too much to get there, and costs to much to go out to ride and just say it is OK.

now i am going to go to kentucky on a late season archery only deer hunt for big whitetails.

we rescheduled for the first week of feb, should be better. gives us 5-6 more weeks for them to load up with snow. but, it did cost us almost 400 more for the 2 of us for prime time lodge dates. ski

Was scheduled to arrive in tog on the 3rd of january.I opted out with the no snow guarantee. They haggled with me for quite a while over it though. I was speaking with their third party logistics company that takes care of the booking and such. The jackhole had no idea how much snow they actually had, he was prolly talking on the phone with me from some place in Timbuktu. Anyway he said that they got 12 inches the night before i called (which was about a week ago). He also said that they got a bunch before that? Anyway reading the snowest forums and talking to people who live in the area it was not the case. I found it a tad unethical for them to do this though. Giving falsified information to a returning customer?? HMMM.. Anyway after bickering for 30 minutes he said he would call the lodge and get back to me. He ended up calling me back a few minutes later and upheld their guarantee. Extremely disappointed in the snow conditions this year as well as Tog's customer service. We're still planning on heading out west though. I have a group of 8 guys leaving Rochester MN on the 1st, any suggestions on where to go. Maybe thinking CO or the Snowy Range. I hear all the stuff in CO is setup already and the snowies have 3 feet with no base. I dont wanna go out and wreck a bunch of stuff though, just like the rest of you guys.

Thanks,

-Austin

Congrats on the baby! I'm in the same situation! 1st one is due Feb 12 and was hoping to ride a couple times before then.. Looks like I won't have a winter this year.

Some good news in the forecast, as I am sure all of you are watching.

No snow yet, however it is starting to cloud up this afternoon.
The good news chance of snow over the next several days.

Unfortunately I pulled a Wreck out this morning.

I will keep you posted.
