2011/12 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

We just got back from 3 days of riding. The snow was AMAZING. You have to head south to find it. There were hardly any tracks. Seems like people don't like to leave the trail. I would head south. Also, when we left yesterday they had 3-4 inches on the ground of fresh and it was snowing HARD.

Was there a specific trail you went south on and a general idea of where you found the good snow. We are headed there wednesday.

Well not sure if it was amazing, lol. Yeah it snowed an inch or two, but was sunny and windy when we left this afternoon. There was still some bottomless fluff left in small meadows in the trees that was a lot of fun even with the multiple rock encounters.

But the large storm that was supposed to hit was a big let down as of today. Maybe it will still happen, that would be nice!

We rode with beefspots, sledogg and their wives, super fun day!

Was up today 1-17-11. Exactly what wysteph said the last storm did not produce, barely covered up the tracks in most areas. Wow was it cold today up there! And the wind howled pretty much all day. Started the day by going up the west fork of willow creek, and there is a spot on the trail through the trees that all the snow got spun out and is just straight ice had to pull all the sleds through would advise going around to get up on top. Still pretty dang hard out in the open areas but up next to the trees and in them is alright. If you can manage to find a spot that is not all tracked up it was lots of fun. Even managed to find a spot that gave my sled all it wanted :face-icon-small-ton. Next storm rolling in tomorrow, it really needs some more snow up there! But was a fun day even though we almost froze, but had a great lunch at bear!

We just took "P" south and got off just north of Ranger Creek. Found good snow there. Also went south of Snow Shoe and there were hardly any tracks.

All my pics look like WYStephs. The snow was great. You just need to look.

Burgess Jct Snotel is reporting 3" and Bald Mtn Snotel is reporting 2" since yesterday if that helps. The heavy bands of snow look to be north farther into MT.

Was up tuesday and it was windy and it has been windy ever since. The bone springs went up 9" which is good news, but could be the result of some drifting but that snotel is up in the trees as well. Highway 14 was closed this morning because of some strong winds, it was drifted in a few spots when we were up. Planning on going up tomorrow to see how this storm panned out. Still chances of snow throughout the next couple days.

Headed up tomorrow to test and tune the new motor. If the snow is decent anyone want to ride this weekend? Might head over to Cooke tho since MT seemed to get all the snow this storm. More snow projected for sat.

Phil, I'm on call all weekend. Darn It....Hope she runs good for you and looks like were getting a little snow up there.

I'm up at arrowhead right now and it was a beautful dya of riding but it got up to 33 degrees so the what they had yesterday is next to nill. But pretty sure there are a few honey holes to be found tomorrow.

Well didnt get to ride much but we did find some decent snow. Plus side my motor/sled ran fantastic. BUT i smoked a hidden tree and did some pretty decent damage. So why you can find decent snow there still is no base to cover the landmines so be careful.

Friday 1-20

Went for a nice ride today. Snow was definetly better than tuesday but hard to say how much new they got. Maybe a foot? Hard to tell it drifted so bad. Rode north of bear and made a loop around over to dayton gulch and over to baldy. Found some nice snow down in the bottoms and in the trees. I took a few pics but am planning on sunday too so might just post them all together. Definetly worth the trip up. Yes it was warm but i dont think the new snow settled to much its all down in the bottoms or in the trees where it doesn't get to warm anyways. Not many people up today and really only seen a couple people on the trail, they didnt seem like they wanted to get off the trail they drove right by some of the best spots. I would bet that all the nice snow is going to get raped and pillaged this weekend, i sure tried to do my part today.

Yeah beef my my luck is not so great. Oh well life is life... Only thing good thing is i can take it pretty well. Don't get upset over much. Honestly i just dont think this is our year for sledding.
