2011/12 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

Im gonna check to see if the were reported STOLEN!! If they tried to collect insurance, those vin #s will be on the stolen list.. I wouldn't touch them if that is the case!!!...

Well I was kind of kidding I wouldn't touch them either unless I knew it was safe... But anyways didn't make it up today because this morning was a blizzard. Anybody have any report on how it is?

Rode out of bear lodge all week. Snow to the south of the lodge in hidden areas is good. We found great areas to ride just boondocking through the trees where we saw no tracks and using the GPS. We hired a guide there the first day because none of us had ever been to the horns, WHAT A JOKE!!! 8 people paying $40 a piece and they didn't show us anything other than bare hill tops north of the lodge!!! 2 guides and they would each go their own way and confuse the hell out of who we were supposed to follow. I guess we should of known something wasn't right when the one told us he was from MN and the other from INDIANA. Lesson learned!!

Snow is great...found over head light deep fluff close to bear. Have to rde more than 2 minutes off the trail. As for the guides here at bear thy are wonderful. Everyone who guides knows the mountain very well. They ride also when guiding, they take you and you play. Any request for what you want to do they wil fill your request.. Not saying your wrong but I've never known guides from here to ever be bad and they can ride guaranteed...

Not once in my post did I say they couldn't ride, they both could ride very well. But for $360, I expected them to know where to find the fresh stuff, and not be told by one guide "you were supposed to go this way" when the other guide had gone the other way. We spent alot of that day trying to find each other because the two guides would go seperate ways. It sounds a bit like you are someone from bear lodge, and that is fine. I'm just saying there were 8 guys that hired guides not wanting to waste time finding good riding, and found better riding on our own without paying $360.

Lesson learned.

I will say that the guides were super nice guys, but we just feel like we didn't get what we paid for.

I am not from bear lodge... That is a bummer that good snow wasn't found. I've been with guides before and had great snow. Multiple times. Bummer deal if you had a bad experience...

Me and 2 friends went to the horns and stayed in sheridan and drove everyday. We found some really good spots you just have to look. Yes there are rocks but if you have ridin ability you can avoid them easily. We took a guy with a 136 poo with 2 inch paddles and he struggled to keep up with us. There is excellent snow just dont expect to find it right off the trail. I will attempt to get the pictures my friends got and post them. If you do go and your looking for deep snow stay north of wyo high country and theres plenty of fresh untouched snow. H north was a little thin on powder but on H south there was a few good spots not far from the trail.

I'm just going to go out on a limb here but, isn't the customers supposed to feel right at home when getting guided? I mean after all they are the new people up on the mt. I have never used a guide in the horns but if I did and got the same service that you guys received then yes my group would feel the same way as yours does right now. Being guided should mean taking care of their clients, I mean the guides can ride any day they want. It sounds like they were riding for themselves more then taking the clients to where the good riding was.

Did you voice your displeasure with Rick or Roberta?
You were not suppose to have two guides, you have one guide and one tail-gunner. Everyone follows the guide and the tail-gunner makes sure everyone gets there.

X2 on that . BTW, some of those guys will NEVER take you to the hidden good stuff no matter how much coin you throw out. In the Horns, Google Earth and GPS is all you need anyway.

The "tailgunner" was the guy that kept riding up ahead and doing his own thing and that left us a bit confused on where we were supposed to go. Have no idea who rick and roberta are...doubt talking to them would get us anywhere. We just chalked it up as a loss and learned a lesson for future trips. Again, both guys were nice guys, but not what we were expecting for a guided trip.

Rick and Roberta are the owners.
Seems like the two could not work out the pecking order, which is also a safety issue.

Just for an example, one of our guys was on a rental. The head guide and about 4 of us in our group were waiting for the others to catch up. Here comes the "tailgunner" and the rest of our group is nowhere to be seen or heard. Guide asked "tailgunner" where's the rest of them, tailgunner said, they should be coming. Meanwhile the guy on the rental had taken his sled into a tree pretty good (broken hood and windshield) and the "tailgunner had no clue.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience but I have always heard of people being happy with their services... Anyways I would of thought that someone on here would of showed you around for free. Looks like the snow was awesome, wish I could of made it up!

I should of put the word out on here, but I didn't. Next time.

What word?? Looking at your other post seems as if you didnt follow the guides, being that you said your sled was kicking your ***, and didn't take it places. Have to go into the trees and tight areas to find the good honey holes before it snowed here on Friday night... Just my thought..

I find it silly to come on the Internet and bad mouth a business especially when you could of spoke up to the guides and say you are not happy with this tour... Fix it then so your tour becomes better for you. I agree it's kinda pricey and want a good ride, so speak up the the guides.

Im not arguing or saying your wrong... I want a good time too if I payed that much. Like ksl said voice your displeasures with the guides or owners befOre bad mouthing on snowest. Everyone up on the bighorns bust their butts to make it an enjoyable place to ride and have fun. It doesn't look good for the mountain and resorts.
