2010/11 Snow conditions Snowy Range

Quick update this morn, 75 to 80 mph gusts here at the house. Hang on to your a$$.
Ok , 8:15 edit, just talked to Kody, he said it the wind wasn't as bad up top as down here. Maybe even better than yesterday, hey the temp's are bearable also!

Pretty sure the winds yesterday hit 100 on top. We had to sit on top of the gap for a few minutes in a whiteout, I thought I was going to fly away.

Next time we ride Dan hopefuly I wont have been up for 36 hours :face-icon-small-ton

Yep, you guys were pretty much running on empty. Sorry missed ya on Fri, real cluster around here then.

hey guys how crappy is it out there after the weather?

We're supposed to leave on tuesday, just seeing if we should still come or go somewhere

Looks like the weather will be making snow into concrete for the next few days anyway. :face-icon-small-dis Windy, Sunny & highs in the mid to upper 30's at 10,000 feet. Snow "chances" Wednesday night thru Sunday.

I've seen that, we might go somewhere else...not sure I want to ride on that yet. It's so much cheaper for us to come to the snowies tho!

Might have to try out cooke!

Sounds like there's a pretty good shot for Thursday?! We might still be coming out, free lodging makes a cheaper trip than anywhere else!

It looks like there's a good chance for snow. In comparison though, Togwotee looks to get pounded.

Anyone know what happened up there on saturday, the 12th? We were heading back in and came up on a ranger, or SAR, that had the trail blocked and was directing us to go around in the meadow. Couldnt really tell what was going on but some sleds were grouped together on the trail, and looked like some carnage on the hill. This was just around the other side of Marie, between there and Silver Lake at about 2:00. Hope everything worked out ok.

Here are some pics from last weekend to cheer everyone up. I am not even gonna bother to go up this weekend after the week of warm and wind.

These pics are of some new found buddies thanks to snowest I love this site.

Hey everyone! New to the site. So how is it looking for this week? Gonna be staying in Centennial and riding wed-sat. Anyone else that sgoing to be riding is welcome to show us a thing or two. lol We may be flatlanders, but we do know how to ride. There are only going to be three of us this time, but we've all been big time back country mountain riders for years.

Hey there redwolf.
Myself and a buddy are going to be riding the snowies for a day or two over the weekend..
We know the area very well and if you and your buddies want to tag along for a day or 2 give me a shout..

Back to the topic...
Rode out of Albany, not much new snow there, but we got into about 12+ in the Nelson park area. The wind was blowing as usual, and the visibility was next to nothing...

Thanks WyoRMK. Forecast looks good for snow, but visibility may be an issue. Just have to stick to the trees those days!

That was awesome sitting on the Gap with that wind blowing like that. I don't think I have ever seen it blow harder than that. Cash and you were 5' away and I could hardly see you.

Just got back from the snowies. It looked like it was snowing up top today when we left, but it was blowing like crazy!

Overall the riding was pretty good this last week. We had fun! Snow's pretty setup and takes some searching to find! Wednesday the snow was crap, we rode out of Albany, and couldn't find anything down south, found a few good spots up North, but no deep meadows at all.

Thursday they got some snow! Rode with Rev Baron, and he got us to some rockstar snow up North, a good foot of powder in places. Thanks Chuck!

But by Saturday evening, things were once again getting pretty tracked up and good snow was hard to find. They need a good dumping! The warm temps and the wind have setup the hills real hard and dangerous!

All in all, we had a great trip and had fun! Also met and rode with two new guys from snowest! Thanks Big Dave and Digger18!

Riding update-Sunday Feb. 20th. East side of the mountain-horrible wind, BUT once around Toilet Bowl(Lake Marie area), west side has awesome snow!!! 2-3 feet of fresh on the flats. Visibility marginal but lots of new snow everywhere. Riding on Monday or Tuesday looks to be good!
