2010/11 Snow conditions Snowy Range

go north and north-west from the widow maker, and stay in or near the trees, good luck snows on the way

sorry

sorry to bother you but what trail you take to get to widow maker. Its not on the map we have unless we are blind!! haha thanks guys

from greenrock parking lot go to O trail than to no trail when your at the no and o intersection look at the map , the widow maker is at the north end of the avalance area on the map or other wise know as medicine bow peak. from the intersection u will go south south west along "n o " trail and if you look towards the south you will see the widow maker. any ways u will go through what is called the roller coaster and that takes u right to the widow maker.

Anyone ride today? Thinkin of going tomorrow if it's not blowing whiteout conditions up there.

Today makes living in laramie more worth it. After a week of 30 to 50 below and 60 to 70 below with the windchill it finally warmed up and we were able to head to the mountain. Left at noon and got up there at about quarter till one (gotta love living close). Me and the wife rode for 4 hours and never saw a person we had to break trail on the road into our secret spot. Once we got there meadow after meadow of bumper deep dry powder. I love living in wyoming and knowing where to ride we never saw a person all day and only two tracks as we were leaving.

Here are some pictures from the day sorry they are not great as I forgot my camera in the pickup ( was in to big of a hurry to leave and hit the snow) so all the pictures where taken on my phone.

Backcountry Avalanche Forecast for Front Range

Issued: 02/07/2011 6:31 AM by John Snook

Special Advisory Statement in Effect through 02/08/2011 12:00 PM Sunday brought light snow accumulations, but wind speeds increased Sunday night. Storm total accumulations since Friday are generally one to two feet and a lot of snow is available for transport. More snow and wind are likely on Monday, and then much colder temperatures for Tuesday. Although we have not reached avalanche warning criteria, areas of HIGH danger continue to exist on lee aspects where natural and human-triggered slides are likely. Backcountry travelers need to exercise caution during the next 48 hours.

6:44 AM by John Snook: Stronger winds and more snow on Monday will keep the avalanche danger at CONSIDERABLE(3) to HIGH(4).

Highlights
Stronger winds and a foot or more of storm snow keep the avalanche danger at HIGH on lee above treeline north through east to south aspects. More wind and snow are likely on Monday. Triggered slides likely in the fresh storm and wind slabs. Sub-zero temperatures return for Tuesday.

Avalanche Danger
The avalanche danger for the Front Range zone is HIGH (Level 4) on N-NE-E-SE-S aspects above treeline. Elsewhere, the danger is CONSIDERABLE (Level 3).
