2010/11 Snow conditions Snowy Range

Snowies

We rode the 3rd - 5th and snow was great. Friday morning it was raining which was a challenge with the goggles. Saturday woke up to a foot of fresh snow on trail and nobody in sight all day. Great time.

Avy Forecast 2.08.XI

Backcountry Avalanche Forecast for Front Range

Issued: 02/08/2011 6:41 AM by John Snook

Special Advisory Statement in Effect through 02/09/2011 9:00 AM
A cold front pushed through the northern zones late Monday night. A period of heavy snow associated with the front dropped 8-12" on the Steamboat zone, and 5-8" across the Front Range, Vail-Summit County, and Aspen zones. Stronger winds during this period transported snow onto north through east to south aspects. Highway crews reported a natural slide running on a south aspect in eastern Summit County. Light snow continues through Tuesday, but much colder temperatures inhibit further accumulations. Recent storm snow and wind are not quite enough to exceed avalanche warning criteria, but areas of HIGH danger continue to exist on lee aspects where natural and human-triggered slides are likely. Backcountry travelers need to exercise caution on Tuesday.

6:45 AM by John Snook: East thru south aspects most suspect. Av danger remains CONSIDERABLE(3) to HIGH(4). Triggered slides likely.

Highlights
Another 6-8" of snow with a period of stronger winds keep the avalanche danger at CONSIDERABLE to HIGH. East through south aspects are most suspect where new snow is sliding easily on the old snow surface. Triggered slides likely in the fresh storm and wind slabs. Much colder temperatures and light snow for Tuesday.

How's the snow with all the wind it looks like they've been having? Coming out on Tuesday, I hope it doesn't get as warm as they're prediciting!

44...Ouch!

Be there on Wedneesday-Saturday. I hope we will be able to find some good spots! Looks like there will be alot of people there from MN also.

I've talked to a ton of people from NW Iowa/MN that are coming out there this coming week! Hope it's good!

Be safe, have a good time!

You guys traveling all the way out here for next weekend might be sad its supposed to get warm this next week even chance of rain. Everything will be set up but you can still have fun and support our wyoming economy.

Keep us posted...

We are heading up Friday, Currently watching the forecast and maybe, just maybe we have snow in the forecast for Thursday plus a little colder temps. We are staying at Wycolo so hopefully there is some snow left on the southern end!!!! Anyone have a sled they are willing to rent Sat. or Sun. my bro is making the trip from Castle Rock and is in need of a sled...all they have left are 2-ups.... :face-icon-small-dis

The road from Centennial to Greenrock was closed all morning. Greenrock was pretty empty today. On the other hand Centennial was packed full of sleds, trucks and trailers.

We ended up just unloading in Centennial and riding the last 7 miles up to Greenrock on the sleds.

The snow they got this last weekend is starting to set up in the more open areas. We did find some pretty good snow in the trees and some of our secret sweet spots that never seem to be touched.

We rode in to our cabin from Albany tonight. Windy but still good snow in the trees. 12 degrees up here right now.

We've had the cabin for about 10 years now, this is the most snow we have seen in February since we have kept track.

Found some more pretty good snow today on a couple more hidden hills and in the trees. It was pretty windy going over Libby Flats and its supposed to blow again tomorrow.

THere was a lot of trucks up in Greenrock today. The parking lot was full and the road was full all the way down to the next smaller parking lot. There was also trucks along the road for close to 1/2 mile below that second parking lot too.

Sat. Feb 12, very windy but sunny and temps in the upper 20's. Snow is very deep, but the top layer is wind blown and packed except in the trees. Managed to find some untouched meadows on the NE side which made for some great fun.
