2010/11 Snow conditions Snowy Range

Gap Avy

That W N/W aspect in the gap has always made me nervous. I saw it had slid when out there last feb very similar to how it did in the picture, but it did not run as close to the gap entrance.

Widowmaker - Gap

So is theWidowmaker and the Gap near the intersection of trail NO and O?

Is there good boondocking on this NE side of the range?

We've never ridden over that way, not sure why. Some advice would be appreciated.

I really appreciate the advice about 7 Fools and the French Creek area and the pitfalls of going down there.

The ne side gets wind blown very quickly. If you are up there on a good fresh day its awesome, other than that its like concrete off the o trail. If you get to the back side of medicine bow, its almost always good.

The avalanche danger in the Front Range Zone is CONSIDERABLE (Level 3) on N-NE-E-SE aspects near and above treeline. The danger is MODERATE (Level 2) on all other aspects and elevations

Marks rmk,,,,,,, Rode the NE side on Friday.....Snow was all tracked up..There can be alot of fun spots back there...We might try the south side on Sat...

Didn't cut a track all day...good snow and even though there were 194 rigs parked at Greenrock didn't see anybody else on our loop except for 2 guys asking which direction was up...

We rode Wed-Fri, first time ever in the Snowies, I can see why they are called the blowies also, holy crap. LOL. We found some good snow, never did venture over to the seven fools area, but we were in the neighborhood you could say. We had a great time there!

Stuck in the trees. Found good snow today, in non-tracked up areas!

Hey BDADDY and jpete27, what route do you guys take out? We took 29 to 80 and out, it was long but we thought they would be better roads.

we always take 29 over to murdo, drop down through valentine to north platte. According to the garmin its an hour and a half shorter than going through omaha

yeah we always go thru valentine to north platte and then over on 80. but make sure if you are close on needing fuel to stop in valentine cuz only one town between there and north platte.

We are from the Hartford area and have been going to Centennial for serveral years now and have tried about every route possible, the route we think is the best is to go to Rapid then down to Hot Springs over to Edgemont then to Lusk then west to 25 down to 34 into Laramie. Lots of places for gas and eating along the way.
We are leaving tommorrow morning about 5am for Centennial, just talked to a buddy who just got there and he said the sky was really dark off to the west and they are talkin 12-18" tonight. Yee-Haa

I'm from Watertown.

What's your average trip time with that route?

We usually go through Valentine/North Platte.

It's usually 11 1/2 to 12 hrs, we usually run the speed limit or a little over, thats stopping for fuel a couple of times and lunch and of course a liquor store stop in Laramie.

... save you a few bucks. Stop at Albretsons. Its the cheapest place in town.

We rode on the 12th through the 15th. Pretty setup but mannaged to find some fresh. The back side was pretty good.

Here are pics from Sunday the 17th - we found fresh snow everywhere we tried, it was windy so we stuck to the trees. I found a new creek too....
