2010/11 Snow conditions Snowy Range

I'm guessing we got 18 inches of snow overnight. I let my little corgi out this morning and when she jumped out of the garage door, she completely disappeared!! I've never laughed so hard at 5 a.m....

It's still coming down, and thankfully very little wind (so far). Lots of the fluffy stuff, should be lots of fun! Here's a couple pics from when I got to work.

'bout 2 to 3' new everywhere here. We went around back and were the only tracks out there,(did our best to track it all up) then came back in through the gap. Scale of 1 to 10 I'd give a solid 9.

Dan

Have we told you lately that you officially SUCK!

leaving on friday-going to ride Sunday thru Friday, can't hardly even sleep at nite right now I'm so pumped

Dan,
What's your opinion on the windy forecast for Fri & Sat?? Looks like 40mph with up to 70 or 80 gusts both days. Does the forecast usually hit that pretty close?

Rode N to X to K today...snow was 1-2 feet on N, 2-3 feet on X, and 3+ feet to the north of K...Windy Hill area was windshield deep powder all day long. Perfect riding all day.

No wind today, thank gawd. Forecasts call for 15 to 30 with gusts to 45, hopefully they'll miss it, but they're usually pretty accurate. If they're right it will be a beotch around here, we have 18 to 24" of light powder around the house, you can only imagine the drifting we're going to see. And that's down here, there's more up above!

Yep, 4 hrs to blow out the driveways, then up the hill. We're now in a high wind warning starting this afternoon 'till 9 tomorrow morn. 35 to 45 sustained w/ gusts to 65, should be interesting.:face-icon-small-dis

Hear ya! Seriously considering going back to the farm and getting the Redhead's skidloader.

Backcountry Avalanche Forecast for Front Range

Issued: 01/20/2011 7:44 AM by Spencer Logan

Highlights
Four to seven inches of fairly low-density snow fell across the zone on Wednesday. Winds have shifted from the southwest to the northwest and north, and will bounce back to the west today. Those winds will drift the new snow, and the remains of Monday’s snow, onto most aspects near and above treeline. The Avalanche Warning has expired, but that does not mean the danger has expired.

The 3rd Colorado avalanche fatality of the season has been confirmed. An organized probe line found a missing snowboarder buried in avalanche debris near Berthoud Pass Wednesday. A preliminary report has been posted in the Accidents section of our website. Our condolences go out to family and friends.

Avalanche Danger
The avalanche danger for the Front Range Zone is HIGH (Level 4) on north through east to south aspects above treeline. The danger is CONSIDERABLE (Level 3) on all other aspects near and above tree line, and north through east to south aspects below treeline. The danger is MODERATE (Level 2) on all aspects facing southwest, west, and northwest aspects below treeline.

MORE THAN LIKELY THE SNOWIES ARE ONE LEVEL ABOVE THIS FORECAST FOR THE FRONT RANGE DUE TO THE HEAVIER SNOW AND WINDS!!!!!!!!

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE.
