2010/11 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

hi all, i making a trip to the Big Horns this xmas break. i was wondering where are some good areas to ride out there? and how to get there?

i keep searching the internet and the only answer i get is how great the "trails" are out there. Trails are the last thing i want to be on.

i have been to island park and cooke city a couple times but me and my dad were looking for something a little closer. 13 hours to Sheridan vs 18 hours to Island Park.

It's not the same kind of challenges as Cooke or Island Park but it is still fun. I spend most of my time up towards Bald mt, you can take 14A or the back trail from Burgess/Bear Lodge up to it and then split off from there. You don't have to ride a single trail if you don't want to, but I would just take the trail up to Baldy if it was my first couple of times. Lots of different directions you can go from Bear Lodge, but in my experince the best snow is normally to the west.

you can leave bear with only a mile or two of trail then just cross them once in a while and still get to all the cool spots AKA secret spots , honey holes ,no tellum creek or what ever you want to call them little tough right now but still can be done one good snow could change it all. it is wide open and pretty easy to navigate friendly peps so don't be scared to ask were the good snow is they will tell and give directions and most important get a map and have fun

thanks for input

thanks. I dont think it should be too hard to find places and sounds like there will be a couple groups at the arrowhead (where im staying) when im there. i just want to make sure when i get out there, within an hour i can be riding.

12/12

Hows the snow looking around the Bear Lodge area? Planning on heading out the first few days in January and wondering what it will be like.

SummitX Sno tel shows that Bald has 39 inches. I haven't been up, but it is starting to get good up there. The beginning of January is when they should start getting a base and some good snow!! Should be good!

I hope someone starts a new thread soon on the big horns! only 4 posts to go :face-icon-small-fro

Man, every riding area has it whiners:face-icon-small-con

Can't afford the $.028 a day to be able to read past post 75. :smash:

This is by far the BEST snowmobile forum on net. That is why your group is upset you cant read beyond post 75.

BUT YOU WON'T ANTE UP LESS THAN 3 CENTS A DAY FOR IT????

Instead of buying 4 gallons of gas just once a year, buy a Premium Membership and enjoy all it offers for an entire year!!

You will not be dissapointed:face-icon-small-coo

No kidding t30mg,

Maybe if all the "basic" members would pony up the $10 the price would go down because of the added members. Given the sport we are in $10 is pretty minimal compared to the $300 Klim Jacket most are probably wearing. Just my two cents or should I say 3 cents so that will pay for my membership for the day. Have fun this winter and be safe everyone!!!!!

Not fair for the basic's man:face-icon-small-sho:brokenheart::face-icon-small-sad

Now I don't have a problem with the whole basic member concept. In fact, I used to be a basic member.

Kind of like the dressing room at the clothing store, try it on before you buy it.

The thing that bugs me is when a basic complains because he doesn't have the same privelages as a paying Premium member. I'm not trying to stereo type here, but it seems every riding area gets the same rant from a basic member.

By the time I ever wanted to read post 76, I decided it was worth contributing the $10 to get premium.

Horns were great today, base is awesome of this time of year, plenty of pow to be had today, post some pics tomorrow.

I appreciate all comments from all participants but I also appreciate the premium membership priviliges and the well thought-out replies from members
