2010/11 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

Bald show 27" this morning, the countdown is on for Saturday after Thanksgiving for first ride...forecast looks good for the next week too.

Now riley, i dont think there is snow 45 inches deep on the bighorns. If there was i would be up there riding. What are you talking about?

Besides that, I am looking forward to being able to ride in a couple weeks up there!!! Powder River needs some more tho!

O hes in the wrong thread then! But thats good news tho!

I understand that French Creek is not in the Big Horns but I know alot of people in the Gillette, Sheridan, Buffalo, etc... and I thought maybe somebody would like to know that as of now, French Creek in the Snowies is showing 58 inches. Not real far from up North if anybody is looking for a trip to some great early season snow! French Creek is also on the East side of the peaks in the Snowies. All the snow we have been getting is on the West side. Last Sunday I had 48 inches on my probe when the sensor only showed 32...Going up this Saturday, wouldn't surprise me a bit if the backside has 6-8 feet...

So I have never been down there but would like to make a trip... Where is the best place to park from and ride to? Any places to avoid? Thanks, let me know how it is!

Actually there is a French Creek in the Big Horns. It's south of Rock Creek where the enviros want to put the next wilderness area. I can see it from my house. Probably around 1/2" of snow (northwest faces). Might want to borrow someone elses sled if you go for a ride up there. :face-icon-small-win

The Snowies is where it's at. Me and a couple buddies are headed down there this weekend. Thanks Riley.

Riding?

Anyone gonna be riding Mon(tomorrow) out on the big horns somewhere? I just bought a sled in WY and wanted to go ride one day before I go home but I'm solo so if anyone is going let me know if you don't mind another rider. call me 701.739.4452 Dan

Also if anyone has any suggestions where I could go at the horns to hit some snow let me know.

We came over 14a yesterday heading to Lovell for Thanksgiving week. We passed my brother headed up with sleds, he said there was enough to do some playing if you were careful. I would just head up 14A and unload at the parking lot just north of bald mt. If you head into the trees at baldy, just remember there are a ton of stumps from being logged. If you head over towards high country, watch out for some big rocks on the north side of 14A out in the meadows.

Is riding in the northern big horns by christmas looking pretty good? were lookin at plannin a trip out but wonderiing how good it will be

Park at green rock parking lot above centenial or at albany either way should have great snow. can stay in laramie or at lodges on the mountain

31" at baldy, what we'll have by Christmas is anyone's guess at this point. Seems like a normal snowfall/snowpack for this time of year. I was playing around on the snotel site and looking back over the last couple of years we've had 19-26 inches on the same day.
