2 ppl. on mtn. side... THUNDERSTRUCK 6

Thread Rating
4.00 star(s)
I've been in a vid or three, but I'm not a professioinal.

I've never been paid. I'm not under contract.

This thread really pisses me off, people don't want to be accountable for anything, then they file a lawsuit that they weren't informed or had no idea what the repercussions were, well someone is to blame and it isn't them of course. And who suffers for their mistakes? The rest of us that's who. And then the government steps in and creates laws to protect the stupid people. Lake Powell is a perfect example, I got a ticket 2 years ago for jumping off of a cliff that is over 15 ft. high. Are you kidding me? And why is that? Because some one jumped off of a cliff that was way to high didn’t know what they were doing and is now dead, he paid the ultimate price, but now it filters down to the rest of us to pay as well.

Now I need to get back to filing my lawsuit against the makers of Guitar Hero, my wrists are really sore and it is because of the game, or maybe it was from rubbing one out last night, either way someone else is responsible, surely not me.

At least your honest Buck! Guitar Hero rocks! I heard on the radio yesterday that a lady got a judgement against a furniture store for tripping over a kid to the tune of $80,000. IT WAS HER OWN KID!!! That lady, the judge, and the lawyers need there *** beat! This is what is wrong with America today. You can't fix stupid.

Wow this is one useless thread. Trying to blame movies for someones ignorance, newbie or not. Whats the world coming to. Wish more people would just pony up and take responsibility for their own actions.

I watch them shows on crab fishing off Alaska. It looks like fun so I`m going to buy me one them fishing boats and give it a try even though I have never done it. If they can do it I can too. If I die my family better blame it on the discovery channel, gimme a break.

People need to educate themselves and quite trying to pass the blame.

Am I suppose to feel sorry for the snowboarder/skier/ who rides by the "closed because of high avalanche warning signs" then actually dies in an avalanche. Sorry not me.

We could actually put signs on hills while out sledding saying it could avalanche and some idiot would run it over as he take a poke at it.

Stupid is stupid does and eventually stupid pays the price.

you guys are all missing the point. i'm not saying these ****sticks are going to sue. WHAT I AM SAYING IS STUPID **** NEWBIES CAN AND WILL DO STUPID **** THEY SEE.

GOT IT?

I think we are saying the same thing, lawsuits are just the next step after getting hurt, plus I was using that as an example.

good deal. :)

common sense just isn't so common anymore.

I couldn't agree more.

Now on to my next lawsuit, I did this doing a Raley behind my wakeboard boat and was wondering who you guys think I should sue? My arm got caught in the handle of the rope, so should it be the rope company? Or should it be the boat manufacturer? Or maybe I could go after whomever created the water?

I don't think that this is a dumb waste of time thread. We all need reminded of the danger of what we put ourselves and others in out in the backcounty.
I personally believe that some of the riders in the movies ARE professional level with most other expert and a few good level riders. I also think that many on this forum are more than likely expert riders that can also do those type things seen in the shows. With that there are others here that are self proclaimed expert riders that don't have a clue as to what it truly takes to do some of the crazy lines.
Yes a "firework" style climb is very dangerous and not just from slides.
A 40+ foot drop is also very dangerous.
People need to educate themselves to the dangers before they learn it the hard way. Mountains WILL slide, put trees and rocks in the way and have hidden holes etc waiting for all us that venture into her kingdom!!
There is a very large lack of information for the novice to find information on the dangers of what not to do out there. But even if there was you are still going to have people lose ther lives in the mountains and the flats expert or novice!
They need a sticker right by the key switch that states:
START AT YOUR OWN RISK!
The movie guys should definatly come out with a bonus disc on the technics and some well put together info on the dangers that even the "experts" would maybe sit through. It would be a huge time burden to make but i think that they themselves could benifit from the sales alone.

...............That is why we, go to avy courses, preach about avy safety..............

Apparently that preaching ends when there is a film to be made..........

For all you asshats out there that are talking lawsuits, personal responsibility, and all the rest of that crap, i say this (By the way nobody was trying to shift any responsibility or anything else):

Why not show the basics correctly?

Why is it so wrong to point out that a few scenes of a movie might have been better shown by the riders actually following some the well documented "basics"??

I am the last to argue that these riders should not be jumping, climbing, and doing the crazy things they do,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,That is why I buy the videos!

I boil it down to this:

It is sort of like being an expert on fire safety and you are making a video. YOu want to show how to correctly put out a fire, but in the video you show a guy starting the fire in a fireplace with a cup of gas. Yep the fire got started, the guy starting the fire didn't get hurt, but some jagoff that knows nothing about starting fires might use that as a reference later on when starting a fire. The basics were ignored by the so called "expert", and there might be a uncalled for statistic because the expert did not follow the basics (when he could easily have done, and it would not diminish the video at all).

The leaders in a profession, or a sport, activity, or any other area have a responsibility to at least show others the "basics", especially when there is no bible to follow in this area.

This is getting blown out of proportion, all 51 was trying to do was point out something that alot of us have seen in these videos to spark discussion. The thread did just that.

Be careful out there guys, don't become a statistic!

if we gave away techniques then why would you pay to see them? j/k
i actually submitted and article to sledheads that is all about the technique of carving and riding deep powder... maybe someday they will publish it...

what i want to publish is a dvd on avy beacons, pit digging, and condition checking... i think that would be far more useful. I know some ski videos have included that in the past, but one custom suited to sleds would be far more beneficial... but then you get people that watch it once and think they are experts on avy stuff and dont need to practice or what not... liabilities... just be smart people...

LMAO! Beels! I was wondering when the oompa loompas were gonna come and chime in.
Hook, line and sinker. Man you guys are easy!

Jeff C-so, are you saying that no one has the right to do what we do on the hill because of a chance of an avy? "Sorry fella, because avalanches exist, no one shall ride a snomobile any longer" Is that what you are saying? Sounds like it to me,.

Well everyone, better sell your sleds, Jeff says it aint a safe sport, even under supervision. Good luck.

Now, once again here we are arguing about a movie. Has anyone of you posers had a chance to see what happens behind the camera? The choregraphy(sp?), the snow conditions? Light conditions?(you want to be able to see right?) Apparently not! I have not, and will not, see anyone climb a chute or hill, when the dangers are apparent, why? Because we all, yes we all, check before we ride, if the avy danger is high, we wont climb, simple as that. But we all know, that they can happen, anytime and anywhere. So take that as you want, the rest of the sled industry and the people who ride, really dont care what an uneducated opinion is or means from an uneducated opinion in the first place.

Yup, stupid thread alright.

Is it just me or would you guys agree that the clips on TS6 with 2 people going up the mtn. is bad video for people that don't know this is very bad teaching? I mean, what about the people that are just getting into sledding and buy this video.

Then the next thing you know we have even more avy fatalities, due to people wanting to do what they see on these videos?

No offense to the TS6 guys, but i was just wanting to see what everyone else feels about this.

can we get real for a second please? since when did ANY sled video, ski video, moto video, snowboard video or mud video EVER assume the responsibilty of 'teaching'. these videos are produced to show the extreme limits that can be achieved in each of these sports. they are made for one reason...to entertain the viewer.

if a viewer wants to study a film to learn how to control a jump in the air, or how to pick the right line or consider the notion of running two sleds up a chute at the same time, that's their deal.

if you took everthing you shouldn't do while snowmobiling out of most snowmobile videos...you would have lots films with titles like:

"Trail Fever 3" or "Meadow Cookie Mayhem 5" or "Drag 'Em If You Got Em 9" or how about "2 UP - 12 DOWN" or "Rachel Ray's Muffpot Makeovers".

c'mon dudes!

all a thread like this provides is a chance for the minority of thunderstruck haters to get on here and baloney-blow each other about how unsafe everyone is.

if you ever watched a thunderstruck video or any other extreme sport video, and thought to yourself..."Man, that was cool, or crazy or neat", and then typed a response on a thread like this slamming the filmmakers for that enjoyment...you are a friggen YARD TOOL.

it's called personal responsibility...and its something this world could use a lot more of.

jeff

Hook, line and sinker. Man you guys are easy!

Ohhhhh the "ironing" is delicious.......

You come on here, spin a cog and all of a sudden you're manning the boat?

I think you hit your head playing hero a few too many times...

i'm not hating on any of the TS guys, actually i look up to their crazy ways.. that kanadian is one funny mofo, even the way he rides! Seems to me that he's all about having a good time, which i like to do as well.

good conversation through this thread even though there is a little bashing. I'll keep buying the films, (actually i got a whole stack of the TS6 vids and some clothes, and calendars doing the snow show in Denver) The peeps running their stand was very friendly!

Heck, they even said they'd take my lil sis along since she's "the new thing".

LMAO! beels, did you come up with that all by yourself? I am impressed. Keep fishing oompa loompa.

How about this, why dont all you haters, tell Evel Kenevel that all he did was wrong, and he should appologize.(if he was alive), my bet, he would tell you to stick it up your azz. Hows that for a hero?
