Why is Klim so expensive?

Its OK if you don't want to wear Klim gear. Just make sure someone in your riding group does. That way when you end up spending the night while its cold and snowing wet snow at about 1:00 a.m. you can start switching from your gear to your buddies Klim gear and at least keep everyone somewhat comfortable and alive. There were 7 in my group when this happened. We were all wearing cloths that are marketed as waterproof including HMK, Polaris and TOBE. They all worked until about 10:00 p.m. when the first one started getting wet on the shoulders. By 1:00 a.m. everyone was wet but the two guys wearing Klim. Now I don't care how cool it is or rather or not I look like a copy cat. I ride to hard to trust anything less. If I was a less aggressive rider I probably wouldn't care, but chances are I'll spend the night again and this time I will be prepared.

Remember, Klim builds its gear for aggressive riders. The rest of you probably don't really need it. LOL

haha yeah, where we come from we go home when were done sledding. 7 in your group?? couldnt double down or???!!!

Some people are just committed to getting the first tracks in the morning. Camping in/at your favorite canyon is a great way to do just that!!!lol

4 turboed Apexes, 1 SC Apex, 1 turboed Nytro and a turboed 800 Dragon. We dropped into a canyon with 6 feet of fresh powder and it snowed 2 more feet while we were in there. None of us could pull out. The snow was so deep we could not get enough air to keep motors running. It got dark before we could find a different way out. We were not lost, and no need to carry a tent if you have Klim gear. Nothing to worry about if your dry. Getting wet was the only problem. I do wish we would have had a SPOT or a satellite phone so we could have let our wives know we were OK and would be out in the morning. The snow had settled enough by daylight we got everyone out.

We did find out if you get wet and can put on cloths that stop you from getting wetter and are breathable your body heat will dry your wet layers. You just have to stop the water from coming in.

Sounds to me like you work for Klim.;) Or better yet.....sounds like Klim works for you.

You might think so, but I have seen other posts as well where people had to stay overnight on the mountain, and the Klim was the only stuff that stayed dry all night long, hes not the only one loving the Klim. I bought Klim last year, and now almost my whole group has it, why do we talk it up? Well because it works better than anything we have tried by far, and want others to benefit from staying dry, pretty simple really.

I've got nothing against Klim at all. I was on their race program and their support is simply awesome. Since I left that game, I had to replace my gear and went with Tobe. I've put my Tobe gear through every bit or even more abuse and it has performed just as well in my mind. I've yet to be left wet or cold. 99% of the problem is the baselayers people are wearing. If it's going to hold moisture, you're screwed either way.

My point is, it's laughable that people look at Klim as the holy grail of the industry when they haven't tried anything else out there. Klim is great gear, but there's also other great gear out there if you look around. Compare apples to apples.

Klim is great no doubt. There are some misconceptions i am seeing on here tho. yes they have to meet the strict qualifications to say Goretex on them thing is, all the rest of the gear that says Goretex has to as well. Dont be fooled. there are other alternatives to Goretex as well. The patent ran out on Goretex so the technology is available to anyone. Goretex however has been doing it the longest thus I think is the best available still. Another is Goretex does not keep you warm. In fact it is very cold. It is the insulation between you and the Goretex that keeps you warm. Pay as much attention to that as you do the woterproofing layer.

Just because it is waterproof and breathable dont mean it will keep you dry. If you are sweating at a rate faster than can be disapated, your wet period. Thats the case with me. I sweat to the extreme and the only thing that dries me out is taking them off. I dont just sweat from too many layers either. I sweat if I am cold if I am doing work at the same time.

I personally think there is gear out there that is every bit as good as Klim for less money. mine is Cabela's and my wife is outfitted in all Reima (now Scott) and we are very happy with them.I have one pair of non insulated bibs and am going to get a pair of insolated bibs for those super cold days. I have researh to do, but I am willing to bet it wont be Klim. I would rather put the extra money for it to say Klim into higher quality layering clothes.

I forgot to bring up Klim's helmets. They are awesome but run small. Mine is a 3x and it is not easy to get on and it barely fits. If I were to put on 10 pounds it wouldnt fit. A friend of mine want one so bad but he cant even get one on. I agree, Klim needs to look at how well thier stuff fits big men. The little girly men arent the only ones having fun and buying product.

It flat out works, I have tried the best stuff Polaris has and the Klim outperforms it. The Polaris gear is real good, but the Klim retains its water repellancy longer and fits beter. When I say fit I mean the cut and the movement when you are riding. Make sure whatever gear you use you only wash it in nickwax or techwash. It is non detergent wash that cleans and actually helps the gore material get it's repellancy back.

Yes they do, I was looking at Klim last year and couldn't wear it if I wanted to, but I am glad now they didn't fit found good gear much cheaper. 3xl or even 4xl wouldn't fit me, because they think people have short arms and narrow shoulders! It's a poncho on the stomach and still a few sizes to small on the arms!

I agree there is just as good gear cheaper. If it isn't Goretex you have to be careful, but there is other things out there for CHEAP that work just as good. My WHOLE outfit didn't even cost me $400, pants, jacket, boots, gloves, underlayer, fleece. You wouldn't even buy a Klim jacket in Canada for that.

Was this the famous Klim outing to Bedford last winter that was talked about all over town? You know, the time when the "best" riders around ignored the forecast and avalanche conditions and went into a very dangerous zone anyway? That would make this whole scenario a little more clear.

Maybe this is why Klim is so expensive?
