Why is Klim so expensive?

I spent $960 last year on a complete Klim Outfit, best money I ever spent!!! Warm, dry, and comfortable all day long on even the coldest days.

I was skeptical at first if I was just paying for the name.. after riding with it I can tell you that is clearly not the case:D

Yep... spent the $ on a jacket last year. Wasn't too keen on the $300-ish for a jacket, but it's worth it. My new boots have a yellow K. Pants are next.

I think the phrase you get what you pay for does apply sometimes. But just because it costs more don't mean it's better. I will ask this, can you hold the Klim bibs underwater for say 10 mins and no water leak inside? Because my bibs work that well and cost me about 1/10th of Klim :p

now to the $$$ convo.

like i said earlier is goretex some type of $$$ daimond?? the **** cant be worth that much, is it?......i dont think anyways

and the warranty....hell ive never brought back any piece of clothing ever for warranty and probably never will even if its worth $400 and usually the problem is my fault. what exactly are they warrantying(sp?)??
and we all know how warranty works.....they try and screw you any way they can.

countless hours of r&d? maybe 3 years ago, what countless hours have been put in lately? again im have no clue but they havent really changed....i dont think so anyway!

again....im not beaking klim, just wanting answers and so far soo good:beer;

but i think i'll just take the hit and spend the money(klims knows i will anyways:D)

Gore-tex is a one of a kind material. Often imitated, but never duplicated. When you decide to use gore-tex, you are joining a partnership with that company. Your standards now have to meet Gore-tex standards. Gore-tex sorta dictates that your product will be the best on the market. Or, you won't be using Gore-tex. I could go into all sorts of boring technical details about it, but all you need to know is that it is most breathable and most waterproof material known right now.
The warranty is for the life of the product. Please use common sense when reading this. If your pants no longer keep you dry after 5 years. And they look taken care of and not abused. It is warranty. If you slip on your running boards and gouge the fabric, no it's not a warranty. If 10 years have gone by and your product looks well worn and is starting to fail. Well, that's probably the life of the product.
This year alone. The Valdeze parka, the Tomahawk parka, powercross pullover, Togwotee bibs, extreme bibs and freeride pants were all redesigned. And I have inside info that they are working on other items as well.
Hope that helps.
Someone also mentioned something about colors and style. Unfortunately, if you look at any gore-tex product in any industry you will find this to be a fact. The reason is the fabrics you want to mate or laminate the gore-tex with. You can't have your outer fabric blocking the breath ability of the gore-tex as that would be pointless. Take CastleX for example. Bright colors and waterproof. They can use different shiny materials because they don't have to worry about being waterproof and breathable, just waterproof. Sorry, to any castleX wearers, not bashing just needed an example.
Just to throw it out there. Most of you have heard of Polaris E-vent. Now how many have heard of windstopper gore-tex? Windstopper is just what is says. Although it does have some limited water resistant and moisture displacing properties. Well, that is basically all E-vent is. I don't want to go around starting a gear argument. Just know if it doesn't say Gore-tex, then it isn't gore-tex.

K Thx guys, everyone that owns klim loves it. so ill will be picking some up for this year.

yes the castle racing crap doesnt work good(for me anyways) i get soaking wet in that crap. and i didnt get the bib pants last year(worst move ever, cold ***, frozen t-shirt)

What I don't get about Klim is don't they think that there are any big guys out here? I sure wish they would make TALLS!!! Until then, Cabela's guide wear xcr gore-tex rain jackets and pants make excellent riding gear a good price! I don't think Klim is any better or tougher, just a cooler name.

I'm short but I'm rocking Cabelas bibs with 100 grams of thinsulate. Love them and they are dry. Best part.....scored them for 150 in the bargain cave!!!! In a year or two I will be looking for the Guide bibs that are uninsulated as well as a coat. I don't get paying high prices when you can wander the Cave for 15 minutes and save money. Plus the Guide gear is pretty damn tough.

As the title states.......

:beer;

Prices are insane in Canada; you can pick them up in the states for approx. $100 less on the pants.

I wouldn't wear anthing else as far as pants go, although, I've heard FXR is good but no cheaper.

I wear a North Face gortex ski jacket that works great, cost me $170. I've seen the Klim jackets for $450! Ski pants just don't cut it for sledding IMHO.

What Fullmonte said. The cloth is expensive and then WLGore has to accept the design and construction quality before they will sell you the cloth. The warrantee is Gore's warrantee. If the cloth leaks they are the ones that replace it, not Klim or whoever.

And they do by the way. My first set of Klim bibs delaminated after 4 years of everyday wear. I had taken care of them....I don't trash my stuff, and I was just handed a brand new pair. The only question asked was if I had washed them regularly. They don't like it if you never wash them. I also had an REI jacket from the same year that Gore replaced. I think I got stuff from a bad run of fabric or something.

BTW, both replacement pieces are far superior to the originals. There was quite a bit of innovation in that time.

I don't know all about what to charge (10%, or 15%) all I know is I bought my stuff in the middle of summer for 40% off! I couldn't walk away from that deal. I bought a Valdez coat and Tagotee bibs for under $500.00 for both. I thought that was a smoking deal! Haven't tried them yet though.... :(

I have skiied all my life and when i started sledding i wore all the same clothing as i did when i skied. Two years ago i bought the Klim free ride pants and love them. All i wear on top is the Klim inversion jacket and the only time i get wet is when i find myself falling off my sled and snow is flying up my back. Love the gear, and if you don't have the money like most of us on here just look for buying last years models and you can find pretty good deals. worth the money!!

I just bought the free ride pants and val parka last spring on a close out for under $500.00 bucks. They worked great, I got to use them for the last few rides. (wet snow/rain and stayed dry)

Klim knows motorcross and snowmobiling and they make great clothing.

As for boots to the above post. I like my Sorels, and other types of pack boots to stay warm, but have never tried "snowmobile" boots.

Hey C-Man if your buying new klim stuff check out the new polaris dealership in Kamloops,i got valdez jacket and togwotee bibs and gloves for under 900.,its last years stuff so its on sale.

Why is Klim so expensive? Who knows...

$169.95

I am a full supporter of buying within the industry but using the excuse the the Gore fabric/membrane is SOOO expensive is a bunch a jive (don't call me a jive turkey haha).
I just posted this jacket to prove a point. I seriously doubt that Cabela's is losing money on this jacket. GORE_TEX lots of pockets, waterproof zips, and even a hood which is more material so increases the cost. It even looks about as exciting as a Klim jacket.

This Spyder Steeps jacket must be a complete heap of trash since it isn't Gore-Tex.
MensShellJackets-SpyderSteepsShellJacket082010628S_large_image1_64295.jpg

$549.95
* Stretch Nylon Oxford with Dermizax™EV 20,000mm Membrane and Spylon+™ Water Repellent Finish
* Stretch Nylon Print with Dermizax™EV 20,000mm Membrane and Spylon+™ Water Repellent Finish
Sure this is an expensive jacket but "how dare they" since it doesn't utilize goretex?

If your gonna drop a grand on gear, do yourself a favor and get educated. After-all, "a fool and his money are soon parted."

Obviously the big picture here is about "breathability". Last year I rode with a cheap waterproof jacket, not breathable and got soaked with sweat on the inside when digging out. This year trying a cheaper brand of breathable outerwear...just cannot justify $1200 for coat and bibs. I spent almost $500 for this year's set and to me that's a lot!
No doubt Gore-Tex is the state of the art breathable outerwear but you are definitely paying for the name. Watch some of the recent vids that are out there and look at all the riders wearing Klim. Obviously they are not paying for this gear but are simply advertisers for Klim. Klim supplies and in a lot of cases pays these pro riders a ton wear their gear. The cost of this sponsorship gets passed onto the consumer. Same as in any pro sport. Do you know Patrick Roy was paid millions every year to wear Koho goalie gear. Thus, at that time Koho was the most expensive crap out there, even though it was no better than any other brand. Similar to Tiger Woods and Nike.
Sadly, I have to admit.....it's probably just a matter of time until I too get fed up with the cheaper brands and are forced to cough up the huge money for Klim.:(

just saw that coat last Friday seized_up for 120 or so in the bargain cave. Did I mention I love Cabelas and their return policy.
