Why is Klim so expensive?

I believe a big part of it is just sheer volume (lack of it for sledding). Competion for good "dry" clothing is much more agressive for motorcycle touring clothes. I have bought awesome 100% waterproof coats with armor on clearance for way less than snowmobile gear. Riding in the rain on a bike will test your jacket/pants for waterproofness and typically, I get colder riding my motorcycle than a sled so the jackets have to be warm and give you flexibility, like removeable liners because the sun will comeout after the rain and you will cook.

There is just not near the competitors making sled realted clothes so the volumes are much less, increasing the price we will pay.

Klim Mark up!

Thats a pretty dang good deal. Klim regulates what the dealers sell it at. No dealer is supposed to say any current year clothing online under retail. They can only sell current year clothing at 10% off at the shows. Non current product can be marked down by 15%. These are all outlined in their dealer agreement. So if you are finding 10% off and free shipping online then you have basically the best deal Klim allows.

It is true that KLIM has a Losk in as far as a Minimum to sell there Product for. It might be do to the fact they have cornered the Market on a Good Product. If you call Rich up and ask him why his reps are regulated on there cost....LOL...You will get 100 questions!!! Who told you that??!!
Its kinda Funny, But its all about making money and if your willing to buy the best then Bite the Bullet and do it. This is the first year I have Purchased KLIM gear. I purchased 2009 Valdez and 2008 Klim Extreme Bibs. Got a really good deal as opposed to retail But I aint tellin (Not into Bridge Burning)
It all comes down to Who you know.
Then there is a KLIM rep I had to deal with in Utah, They had a Pair of Klim Gloves with a description of a Snomobile Glove with a guarantee that it would keep your hands warm. Well so much for there Guarantee......I was expecting a Pair of power xcross in an XL and ended up with a Brand new pair of Medium Dakar((((MOTOR CROSS GLOVES))))
This was on Ebay, Contacted the seller....She offered refund minus Shipping....And then a restocking fee!!!!
So then I said """Negative FEEDBACK!!"""
But I would have to say that the guy I got my Valdez and Bibs From Was a great guy to do Buisness with! I will Buy a helmet when my Wallet recovers...LOL

Just my 2 cents

HMM? I hunt, fish ride bikes, quads and sleds as well as work outside. I see my share of chitty weather. I have dropped massive amounts of $$ on gear. I have come to realize that there is a balance of breathability, water permeability, flexability and quality that I must have for what I do. I also feel that klim is much like patagonia, it works very well, just like many other products out there. however, the price reflects the trendyness. to compare a pair of simms waders to a jacket is plain silly. I own a pair of the waders....try hiking in them, you will dump out the boots full of sweat.

I dress out of style on purpose. I get a kick out of the "ricky racers" all decked out in the fancy stuff.

I am in the cabelas camp. I returned a pair of boots that I wore for 3 years and a pair that I wore for 1. I told them that I was dissapointed that the boot leather wore out before the sole. they gave me 336.00 bux w/o a hassle. I ripped one of my old packs, they replaced it w/o a question. I dropped a lantern in a BRAND new xwt tent....killed the floor, I called em' and asked if they could tell me where to get the fabric to repair it......they sent me a new tent AND paid the shipping.

when I get that kind of customer service, good results on the products and pay a fair price for it, it's gonna take an amazing product to sell me.

guys that say sledding is hard work and you sweat more then anything else, try hiking out of lake chelan, I think that is a load test if there ever was one.

if you feel your gear works, it really don't matter what it says on the tag. unless it was made by western mountaineering or mystery ranch it prolly came here on a boat from china, where they could give a rip about quality.....after all if it was not good enough to keep it in china....

Why is Klim so expensive...?

Why is Charmin more expensive than single ply gas station **** paper?

Why is a Vette more expensive than a Yugo?

ups just dropped off my extreme bibs. 1st time klim owner. they are nice i will order parka next week

Klims warranty is why I use there gear. When I started sledding in 2000 they were new to the scene. But I said what the hell and gave them a shot and bought a pair of there pants. Three years later when the inner seem started going to hell I sent them back and they sent me a new pair of free ride pants at no charge. Last season my pants strarted getting wet I sent them back and got a new pair of free rides. So I've owned 3 pants in 8 years and only had to pay for one. This year I'm trying there helmet and inversion jacket since Until now they've never made a jacket that I didn't think was bulky.

I don't care for their gloves or boots but the coats and pants are worth every penny

Mostly agree...I don't care for the boots or gloves either. They are still a little high priced. I had a friend that sold for them. The owner fired him because of a personality conflict. He could tell you how much the mark up is!

Well im just debating dropping a $1000 on a suit. i sweat my bag off all day and NOTHING can keep me dry and i mean nothing. im just scared im gonna buy it all and still drip sweat all day long, mainly in the arm area.

i had klim gloves last year, they were great untill i touched the pipe for a millisecond and they melted like crack in a pipe.

Klim uses three layers like most high end gear. You probably already have an adequate base layer. I am not sure I am sold on my klim mid layer. It seems like fleece is fleece. The Klim mid layer is nice stuff, but if you are cutting cost, I think you can find similar for less. The bibs and the shell are first rate, I have owned mine for several years now and it does not leak.

I sweat like you, so usually I only ride with two layers on top (base and shell) and three layers on the bottom, (base, mid and bibs). The Klim shell also has venting that you can open up if you get hot and then seal up when you take a break. I just throw in my mid layer and a 4th in my back back if I might spend the night.

The Key is that the layers are removable so you can dress as cool or as warm as you like.

If you don't like them I am sure you can turn them around on Ebay and recoup a big chunk of your losses. But you won't. You won't find better, there is alot worse, and it will last.

Talk to customer rep, I have a friend that melted his bibs on a camp fire and they fixed them for like 20 bucks, You might get a free pair of gloves.

I still have not found the perfect glove...but I don't know why people knock the boot. I put in my foot dry and at the end of the day I remove it dry. Sometimes I even use cotton socks because the boot breaths so well. I have had them three seasons now and they don't even have a scratch on them.

hmmm

I like the true north adventure glove or something like that. The Klim boots are good....just not for me. Didn't mean to upset you. hehe JK ;)

I wish I had the same results. I will be talking to Klim soon. I have maybe 200 miles on my gear. I bought the Radium GTX boots for extra ankle support for freeriding in the mountains. Now on the right boot, I have a hole developing because the boot has a crease/fold in the boot that sticks out and rubbed against my tunnel brace behind the front suspension bolt. It now is worn down to the Gortex and obviously will only get worse. I love the boots and the rest of the gear. They just need to make the insides of both the Radium and Adrenaline boots all the same material as the toe and heal caps in the future. I'm hoping with my feedback they may help me out to improve their product in the future as well. I will check with them on repairing my jacket as it melted my Valdez jacket forearm and Inversion glove (all my fault of course) trying to put a plug boot back on my M1000 when it was hot.

As well, why do you go in these cold cycles with the Klim gear all the time? It weird, always dry, but get freezing cold for 5-10 mins when I'm stopped then I warm back up again. Everyone in our group agrees and has the same issue? We must need an extra mid layer I'm thinking, all my undergear is Klim as well...

I think their prices are high, but somewhat justified. Licensed Gore-Tex stuff is never cheap because of the material used and the construction quality. Klim can justify their prices, because they have a good product, great marketing, and people PAY THOSE PRICES! That's the bottom line. If people believe that a licensed Gore-Tex product that says Klim is vastly superior to other Gore-Tex products, and they're willing to pay the high price, so be it.

I'll never say that Klim gear isn't good, but it's definitely not the only thing out there that works. I like my Togwotee bibs because they're pretty durable and I like the kneepads. My butt doesn't get wet, but my belly and chest sweat so much under the bib part that it is almost unbearable. Why don't they make the upper part out of mesh? You've got a jacket on over that. It doesn't need to be as thick as it is. I love the Adrenaline boots I've got. Compared to the clothes, the boots are much more competively priced. The narrow profile of those boots is what sold me, and they breathe pretty well. When it's really cold, those boots might be a little too thin, but I don't like to ride very long when it's really cold anyway. I've considered a Klim jacket for several years now. Whenever I try them on, they are too heavy and constricting. They look like durable material, it's just that it feels like wearing a straight jacket! I'll stick with my Gore-Tex ski jacket because it is light, just as waterproof and breathable as the Klim, and it offers unconstricted freedom of movement that Klim can not match.

I guess that the success of the company is the reason it is expensive. If people buy it at those prices, how can you fault the manufacturer? You never see Klim discounted as much as other athletic apparel, so it is obvious that they are very good at judging demand for their product and marketing it appropriately.
