Whistler-Pemberton official 09-10 thread

Rode Brandywine Jan.3 Beautiful bluebird day..... 2 ft of fresh, broke trail up the guantlet onto the icecap. Quite a few sledders out yesterday.
Trail was groomed midday....smooth ride out.

Awesome day yesterday. Had the Snow trax boys out, they were pretty impressed. lots of powder and blue sky. Today the light was flat . Trail is in awesome shape, props to drew for that.

That's cool Ray! When will we get to see you on TV? Where did you bring em?

They probably thought the trail in was the ride, commented how nobody wore a modular helmet, or the lack of ammenities on the way in.

But seriously, when will it air?
I always get tired of their shows when the camera shows a bump, on which they are at the top and the host asks the guide, " ...so, Bob, we're at 850' here, and isn't this a beautiful view?"

OMG what kind of a person have I become since I sold my sled?

ok, two questions. first, is sproatt open to sledders? secondly, a guy from work showed me a book called exploring the coast mtns on skis. pretty cool how it shows all the mtns and places to ski on bcs coast, from baker to alaska. pretty lame how anti sledder and even kind of anti boarder it was as well. anyways, anyone ever seen any books like this for sleds? even some decent map books would be nice.

Sproatt is off limits to sledders and is being guarded by the military believe it or not. Security for the Olympics I guess.

Coming up this week, whats the general opinion on this weather pattern? Snow/Rain? Should I wait until next week? 1600 meters seems pretty high for freezing level.

Good question, my fingers are crossed looks like we'll know wednesday after the storm.
Watching the freezing levels????

lets keep the reports coming

I want to thank those who report information and snow condition ect. unlike me .
I know theres some one snowmobling almost every day up in this area...

Lets try and report more often... please.

i read hurley is up to 1800 meters?? seems high.. goldbridge is 800ish and braylorne is 1000 ish.. i guess when you head into goldbridge you do drop alot

Was up the Hurley today. The drive in was a sheet of ice and there is a small wash out across the road just past the Outdoor School. Lots of new heavy snow up top Waist deep at top of Hope creek but settling fast. Lots of avy activity but should be starting to stabilize. Even had some sun today.

Anyone that wants a sea to sky road pass so they can sled during the Olympics can get one at Valley Chainsaw. Other dealer or clubs might have them as well.

for curiousity, whats a road pass worth? don't know if its worth it though for van residents. last sat it took me 1hr and 20 min to get from squamish to whistler. wicked day at rutherford but the drive was complete bs.

Depending on what club you are with, there will be no charge for the pass, it comes with part of your club membership. If you are part of Black Tusk they will be sending them out in the mail early next week.

I am going to Mexico to avoid the mess for one week of the actual Olympics but I understand that most riding areas around Whistler will be closed (for parking) in the next couple of weeks until March. I also read in the paper this morning that they are keeping the ski-jump area in place so we can say goodbye to Callaghan Valley, Sproatt and other areas forever:mad:

I wonder how long it will be before we lose the whole Sea to Sky Corridor! If the proposed "all-season" ski resort comprising 5,800 housing units, 22,000 hotel bed units, 100km of new roads and 2 golf courses on Brohm Ridge goes ahead, it is just as well to sell my sled or move to the interior!

The day I heard Vancouver/Whistler got the Olympics was a sad day for me!

I see IntraWest (who own most of Whistler) is going up for auction on February 19th to get out of their billions of debt....it will be interesting who gets it and what they decide to do with the area. Hopefully the organization that wins the bid ride sleds!!

Sorry for the rant!!
