What are you guys pulling your sleds/trailers with?

This thread is the defenition of NEED vs. WANT

what can i say, i drive a lifted '78 chevy that got 13mpg dry once, sled in the back is a good time, can go anywhere.

This is the old Bogger, firewood getter, sled hauler...toy. Got 11mpg once on a gentle highway cruise with the fuelie big block lol.

Got called on a rescue mission after a spring ride one day, but got stuck in the process.

I trailer with a BMW X5 4.8is. Of course it's more of a hot rod truck but it pulls the trailer with ease and is very smooth. I generally pull a 2 place for our short trips but have pulled a 4-place and it was perfect.

Add in heated steering wheel and all the trimmings and its a pretty pleasent ride.

Oh yeah, and a 10,000 lb towing capacity :)

That's a really nice rig there man! I dig those. But, you need to find the guy who told you it had a 10k lbs. towing capacity and kick him in the ding-ding. It's 6k lbs. max.

Yes I would say a 1/2 ton will do you just fine. My truck (as posted already in this thread) loves towing my sleds around because it means that it gets a break from the 30ft tandem dual gooseneck that is on it the rest of the time hauling hay. Wouldn't waste your money on a diesel if you dont need it. They are more expensive then most think to maintain compared to a 1/2 ton. just my $.02

Not pulling a sled trailer but you get the idea.

And even better than that truck is the one that doesnt do much in the winter at all. Its just to nice to mess up.

pretty much any 1/2 ton truck made within the last 10 years will be just fine for towing your sleds and/or car around.

I hauled sleds and cars pretty regularly with my old 2000 1/2 ton Chevy ... only reason I bought the 3/4 ton last year was because me and my dad both have enclosed trailers now, and it was just nicer ... but I didn't spring for a diesel, just a 3/4 ton gasser.

If you want "20-ish" highway miledge unloaded then a 1/2 ton is about the only way to go unless you buy a brand new DoD GM 1/2 ton ... the 5.3L's will get about 17-20 on the highway depending on how fast you drive then, the 6.0's are about 16-17 ... the 8.1's are 13-14 ...

Not sure how the Ford motors break down but that's pretty much how the GM ones are.

This is the coolest truck yet. I love old Fords.

I got an 04' Dodge Ram 2500 CTD. 6" lift and 37 BFG A/Ts. Its got an AFE air intake, MBRP cool duals exhaust, Isspro gauges and a diablosport predator programmer. Works perfect with the sled deck (air bags in the rear are a plus too:cool:)
