Welcome to Valemount B.C ?!?

I got same light lights sort of and I pass cops everyday in my town,in Reddeer,Calgary,Edmonton all over Alberta how come none have gave me a ticket yet.Mabye cops like KC lights better. They came with a grill style cover not a full cover, nice way too start a fire have someone flip the switch on you lights with a full cover on them. And whats the proper way to strap a sled down is it in a manual somewhere?Does it apply for enclosed trailers as well as decks?Should Yamaha riders use chain and chain tighteners cause there machines are heavier?

Yes there is a manual, you can get a booklet at every weigh scale in B.C., or go to the Solicitor General Website and download this PDF.

http://www.th.gov.bc.ca/cvse/references_publications/booklets1-6/pdf/Booklet_2_Cargo_Security.pdf

B.C. has a stricter law enforcement for the highway act. It is because there are more curvy roads, hills and extreme weather.... and a LOT more traffic deaths..
You can pull a boat behind a fifth wheel in Alberta, not in B.C./ You can have a plywood and SPF lumber sled deck in Alberta, not in B. C.... Familiarize yourself with the rules and you should not have any trouble.

You guys that ware complaining about the cops, probably have been driving for like maybe 5 years??

Last winter I saw one trailer that had come unhooked no safety chains luckly it missed all traffic but sure messed up sleds bad .Also last season saw a pick up that hit the ditch wouldn't have been to bad if machines were tied down on deck but they messed up the cab of pick up and totaled sleds.
To these people I laugh at, but when it comes to innocent people getting hurt or even worse over ignorance I lose my patience and cool.

Cheers,
Dave

If people tied down there machines properly and stopped dropping there sleds or even trailers on the hiway they wouldn't have to do these check stops. I drive truck for a living and put up with DOT check stops all the time. Sometimes I get a ticket for a burned out marker light I don't get on forum and whine about it I just pay it and hope that if there are dangerous trucks out there that they get caught. I can see that the uncovered light is BS but I bet there was attitude given to that cop before they gave that ticket. As far as unsafe loads that is a serious matter that involves other innocent lives. When you critisize someone for the mistake they have made they should takle the info and learn not get nasty. It is not this way with this guy he will not take responsibility for his actions. If every one did as they were supposed to they would not be there in the first place. Does somebody you know or family member have to get hurt before this is an issue.NO WAY

Cheers,
Dave

I agree that there was most likely some attitude given to the cop but I think he would have got the ticket either way. And yes unsafe loads are a danger to the roadways but again this is based on the cops opinion of an unsafe load. Based on the opinion of a person who has way too much power in relation to there education and life experience. You see a law breaker getting a ticket, I see an allready stressed law enforcement system wasting time and resources because a politician gave them a quota of tickets they need to issue. It is the right of the people to question and scrutinize there government, it's our obligation. And from what I have seen our country is going to hell because of crap charges like most of the tickets they hand out.

Have you ever padded your log book? Do you find it harder to make a living now that a politician has decided you are not able to safely operate a vehical for as long of periods? If you said yes, then you see where my feelings are coming from.

LMAO if anybody thinks that tie downs or safety chains are going to actually secure anything in an accident. Not saying dont use them but they are just for show.

No I have never padded my log book as I am a professional driver. For your sakes you had best hope other professionals in other fields like a Doctor, Gas fitter or just about any job where other peoples lives are in there hands do not have your attitude. As far as feelings does the word anarchy mean anything to you.Conforming is a part of maturing that you should be striving for.You would be the first to call the cops when confronted.I find it harder to make a living driving because insurance is so high from people with your attitude. You say that will never happen to me because you think you are better than the rest of us.So I say no to what ever it is you are coming from and to tell you the truth if this is were you are coming from I don't want to be there. Please warn us when and were you are riding so we can at least decide weather or not we want to put our lives in your hands. So please grow up!

Dave

The whole point of this tread is about power tripping cops hassling folks that are contributing to the well being of the towns we sled in. If someone breaks a law that puts someone else in danger thats one thing but to give the cops the benefit of doubt to do the right thing all the time is just dumb!!! I have recieved tickets that were given for sure to meet a quota, when I went to court to fight them the cop doesn't even show up, maybe he knows how bogus the ticket was? Real law enforcment should involve busting the crooks that break into our trucks while we are sledding, not looking for easy revenue from out of province tourists.

Okey dokey.

Perhaps you could use that excuse when you swerve to miss a moose, or worse yet you hit one, and your sled flips off of your deck, or flies over your cab like a lawn dart. and decapitates an oncoming victim.

Years back, probably when you were in diapers, there was a driver for our company that did not secure a coupl of lifts of MDF in the cube van. He took a sharp corner, the load slid across the inside of the van and it slammed the right wall. Well the van flipped on it's side, and took out a bus stop booth.

Luckily no one was in the booth, because there was nothing left when they uprighted the van.

Your insurance is high from people with no accidents and a good driving record (one speeding ticket)?? If you are telling the truth and have never purposely broken the law then congrats, your a better man than anyone I have ever met. As far as saying people should conform to be a responsible citiszen.... are you kidding me!! It's essential to the country that people think outside the box and voice there opinions, its called democracy. Don't get me wrong I believe people should obey(changed from respect) the laws (as I predominantly do) but have every right to critiscize and question them. If this was not the case then communism/dictatorship comes to mind.

And no, I used to call the cops because I thought that was the best way to handle things. Not anymore. I wouldn't want to interupt the seamless flow of minor traffic tickets.

Well I'm done with this thread. Oh and Dave I'll prob be in Mcbride next weekend so know to avoid this area at all costs. Oh and my sleds will be in an enclosed trailer with only front superclamps on them. Thats right, no rear superclamps. Try and get some sleep after hearing that!!!

You see it as power tripping cops.I see it as police doing their jobs what I pay taxes for. When you break the law no matter how serious that particular law is you are gambling. If you can't afford to lose as in getting a ticket don't gamble. Do not gamble more than you can afford to lose .All these cops are doing in there big cash grab as you call it is protecting the people of the town that they work out of and also the tourists including you that come into town from irresponsible people that don't tie down their load properly or have not used there safety chains on there trailers or have over loaded their half ton with two sleds on a deck.
If it was not for these few people they would be able to spend more time catching the crooks that break into truck while sledding.
Do you think the people of Valemont care about a tourists truck getting broke into or one of their own getting killed because some Tourist sledder figured that one strap was enough to hold his six hundred pound sled down?
No I don't think so.

And as far as the cop missing your court date do you think he may of figured that your $75.00 ticket was better to throw out instead of going out to court or go to work to catch the real criminals.
You also said "If someone breaks a law that puts someones life in danger thats one thing but to give the cops the benefit of the doubt to do the right thing all the time is dumb"
Now we are talking dumb. And here are my reasons
1) If someone breaks the law it is the officers duty to charge this is what we pay them for.
2) There job is to do the right thing which is to protect us from not only the criminals but from irresponsible people who put others in danger eg.unsafe load, impared driving over load , no trailer brakes.
3) Treat all the same I am sure they were not letting the BC plated trucks go past. they all got tickets too. If they don't it is like profiling or even prejidisum

The only way these sort of so called cash grabs will stop is when we all start to follow the law.A socity with order is what our ansester fought for. Now suck it up pay your ticket, check out the laws pertaining to your activity and have fun.Ignorance is no excuse.I really hope this thread is finished and hope that the whinners take it else were.I think maybe Dr. Phil or maybe Ophra may have some sort of cry me a river forum for people that break the law and can't take resposibility for their actions.
Just mine and the majority of peoples opinion though.

Happy Sledding,
Dave

I have read my post over and over looking for where I said insurance went up for accidents or tickets and yes no accidents ever and no tickets since 1992. My insurance has gone up from them paying out on claims caused by irresponsible people. Sound familer? Bet I'm not the first to call you that eh ?And yes I try to purposly not break the law. Yes some times I speed a bit by accident but check up when I notice. And yes democracy is the way in the perfect world but in your democratic world it stands for what you think is right and every body else is a commy or dictator. You are a hippocrite not a democrat. And as for your dictator comment this was when I knew for sure when they put you together they crossed up a couple of wires.
I hope the cops in Mcbride are looking at your avatar and pull your Azz over.
I,m not even going to look at your profile I don't want to waste my time but I bet you can't be over 17 years old. My 16 year old son has more maturity than you and yes I will stay away from McBride this weekend. I'd say safe sledding but that would be to much for you to you understand.
To all you 17 year olds I appologize for insulting your age group.I sled with a lot of young people that have more maturity than some on this thread. Once again sorry younger generation and a safe season to all.

Cheers,
Dave

Thank you, was getting tired of the high horse mentality. Bet he never cheats on his taxes either.

Yah this smokindave guy has the biggest set of morals going!!! he is probably the guy that drives 2 km over the speed limit in the left lane to control all the law breakers.

Dear Dave...Please sign up for the support group for men who talk too much. What's it called again? Oh yeah, ON-AN-ON-AN-ON

Cheers,
Mrs.HLCLMR

When you have to go to calling people out because you have run out of intelligent things to say you show your true mentality. My 5 year old grand daughter has more up stairs than a few on this thread. And Mrs. HLCLMR if this is really you don't you think that it is about time you started acting your age not like a juvenile. If clues were shoes you'd be walking barefoot.

Hope the next person killed because of neglegence is some how comes to your family then maybe you will think more like an adult than a child.

Grow up

For your info I have an accountant and that they have a code ethics that you wouldn't understand. I do my best to conform to sociaty which is somthing you should try. I am sick and tired of having to pay more taxes to build more prisons for the likes of you. For the last time just grow up you can't be sucking on our country teat for ever.

Trench master your name says it all. As I said I am a professional I do my job and let the police do theirs. You drive past me way over posted limit and I simply call police. I have a camera mounted on the front of my rig for dangerous peps like your self. If you don't want to pay a fine drive within the legal limit. You people that go out and break the law and get a ticket then get on a public forum and whine make me sick.Grow up

you guys need to settle this like the captains doo on the Deadliest Catch. Sit around a table at a bar have a few pitchers tell a bunch of B.S stories...... but dont drive thou!

I think that would work only they don't let children in bars but great idea non the less.

The only good thing about this post is up till now over 2500 people have been enlightened on the fact that there are laws out there to protect the innocent. If you can't pay the fine you shouldn't do the crime plain and simple. Well to most that is.

Cheers,
Dave
