Canada....beautiful country but one WEIRD place. Went there once to pick up a sled in July, had my truck completely searched and totally messed up. Wouldn't step foot across that border again!!!
As long as we're both happy.....eh?I guess no great loss for either country on our refusal to go to each others country.
The only good thing about this post is up till now over 2500 people have been enlightened on the fact that there are laws out there to protect the innocent. If you can't pay the fine you shouldn't do the crime plain and simple. Well to most that is.
Cheers,
Dave
What does that have to do with sledding???IM pretty sure that a sled on a deck or trailer when you hit a moose at 100km or when you hit a semi head on or when you flip your truck after hitting an approach is not gonna stay put with a 10 dollar tie down from your local sled dealership.Ever pulled anything with a chain doesnt take much of a jerk to snap a link.Im sure a 28ft enclosed trailer loaded with sleds in going to snap a safety chain easily if it comes unhooked.Point is I have never seen anyone that wanted their new sled to fall off a trailer or deck, is it even an issue?Whole point of the the thread is that a guy can drive around for an entire year and then go to Valemount and all of a sudden cops are ticketing people for minor things.I guess RCMP dont all follow the same law book.Okey dokey.
Perhaps you could use that excuse when you swerve to miss a moose, or worse yet you hit one, and your sled flips off of your deck, or flies over your cab like a lawn dart. and decapitates an oncoming victim.
Years back, probably when you were in diapers, there was a driver for our company that did not secure a coupl of lifts of MDF in the cube van. He took a sharp corner, the load slid across the inside of the van and it slammed the right wall. Well the van flipped on it's side, and took out a bus stop booth.
Luckily no one was in the booth, because there was nothing left when they uprighted the van.
Yah usually is truckers I see rolled on the hiway wonder why that is???
man, I hate to get into any of this. I spend 12 days a year in the Valemount/McBride areas each winter on two different trips each year for the last 4 years, never been pulled over or checked out yet. is there a campaign going on to check for safety and securement this year?
I haul 4 sleds, one on the deck and 3 in an enclosed trailer. all are transport secured with superclamps on the fronts and tiedowns on the rear, and a commercial load lock jack for the stuff in the trailer (yeah, I'm a trucker). nothing will shift in a ditching, but a rollover may jar stuff loose.
just run legal fellas, save some headache. smile when he pulls you over, and play dumb for the infractions and act apologetic. has worked with most DOT's for over 20 yrs.....
Do you honestly think it's not the same for us going down there? I've been treated like Bin Laden himself a couple of times....Canada....beautiful country but one WEIRD place. Just a few points to clarify:
If there is not point in using tie downs, why bother wearing your seatbelt either? Guess there are no studies demonstrating that they save lives though....
Lose the attitude of "Cops doing nothing but handing out tickets to us poor, defenseless civilians", "power tripping" etc. If you had any ***gin' clue about what cops go through on a daily basis you would never, ever say something like that. Who do you think is there when a drunk driver crashes into a family van and kills them all or is the first to respond when someone takes a gun and kills their family and themselves or has to deal with domestic abuse/violence or having their own lives threatened as a daily routine? When you go to work each day, do you ever think that you might not make it home that night? Cops think about this at every situation they enter. RIP to the four officers who died in NE Alberta protecting the safety of others from a deranged psycho.
Where do you guys think some of the revenue for funding the police force comes from? Part of the funding comes from the revenue generated by WRITING TRAFFIC TICKETS!!!! Just like any other business they have a budget to meet. No tickets means no budget, no budget means no cops there when you drive off the road and injure yourself or really need their assistance. So get over it, tickets are going to be written, whether you complain about it on the internet or not.
Finally - what do you expect? A big jacked up truck with all the bells and whistles, brand new sleds and a an attitude? They saw you coming a mile away dude....besides that, you may not know what the last Albertan/guy in front of you did to piss him off? Maybe the last guy he pulled over was an arrogant Albertan who was all over the guy about giving him a ticket for passing on a solid double yellow in the middle of a corner? Maybe the guy in front of you told him to "F" off?
Unfortunately (and I'm not saying you in particular - this is a stigma attached to all Albertans) we are the land of promise and due to the extreme sense of self-entitlement some Albertans have, this is the image we have to live with and will be portrayed as such. There are far too many Albertans with large vehicles, driving way to fast on the way to their winter destinations. They flaunt their wealth in every way possible and have an attitude that they are almost untouchable. Drive to some of the popular ski resorts and sledding areas and you will see what I mean. 4 place trailers quadruple parked in a no parking zones when a empty lot is 100 ft away, drunken drivers, driving over medians and blatant dis-regard for any form of traffic law, 3 sleds loaded on a two place trailer sideways and one in the truck with no tie downs, open alcohol in vehicles, etc. (I have personallly seen each one of these first hand in Golden/Revy/Fernie).
Next time when engaged by a member of the law enforcement community, be a little humble and respectful, you may or may not get a ticket but you will be helping to change that image, which may be a net gain for you in the future.
Just something to think about.
I think British Columbians are very welcoming to any self respecting law abiding person from any where. If you come here to enjoy our beautiful province and provide local economies with a boost from your hard earned dollars, all the while being respectful and following the rules of the law We welcome you, If you come to dangle you big dollars and expect everyone to move out of your way and let you run a muck in our Province then POUND SAND and stay home.
Tommorrow you will also get positive reputation from me.May be after a few more people get on and protect them selves people like I won't mention any names(transporter) will take their heads out of their azz and start acting like an adult instead of like some spoiled rich kid who has had every thing given to them all of their lives.Your parents should of spanked you instead of turning you into the spoiled brat you are. Have a nice day
