Welcome to Valemount B.C ?!?

Canada....beautiful country but one WEIRD place. Went there once to pick up a sled in July, had my truck completely searched and totally messed up. Wouldn't step foot across that border again!!!

Its the same for us going down there. Border patrols on both sides are guys and gals that couldn't make the police force. Now that they have some power they power trip and make us miserable. For the same reasons I won't go down there!!! Its not that it is weird our borders are run by the americans ever since 9/11 as they say terrorists came from here.I guess no great loss for either country on our refusal to go to each others country.

Cheers,
Dave

The only good thing about this post is up till now over 2500 people have been enlightened on the fact that there are laws out there to protect the innocent. If you can't pay the fine you shouldn't do the crime plain and simple. Well to most that is.

Cheers,
Dave

Actually.........no.
Individual personalities/ages/maturity levels aside.....the original post does make sense in underscoring what a lot of Canadians feel - the cops are mis-using their resources and have a very confused set of priorities. If every serious crime was solved, every serious criminal was behind bars, there were no thefts, rapes, robberies, assaults, embezzlements, etc, etc.....I would say - sure, go ahead, set up as many roadblocks as you want to bring the rest of the public 'in line', because that is exactly what those roadblocks are about - bringing us 'in line' - it has nothing to do with crime prevention or solving. And it is easy to enforce because we have to stop for the nice officers. Just keep in mind you don't have to answer all of their stupid questions.

But we have a serious crime problem and when you have gangs of thugs roaming the streets robbing and pillaging - does it really make sense to have a highly trained and armed police officer, and a very expensive vehicle stopping random people and ticketing them for uncovered driving lights, cracked windshield or burnt out taillight???? The key point being -DOESN'T THE COP HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO? If the answer is no, he doesn't because there are no criminals or unsolved crimes, then ok, fair enough. But we all know that is not the case.

Okey dokey.

Perhaps you could use that excuse when you swerve to miss a moose, or worse yet you hit one, and your sled flips off of your deck, or flies over your cab like a lawn dart. and decapitates an oncoming victim.

Years back, probably when you were in diapers, there was a driver for our company that did not secure a coupl of lifts of MDF in the cube van. He took a sharp corner, the load slid across the inside of the van and it slammed the right wall. Well the van flipped on it's side, and took out a bus stop booth.

Luckily no one was in the booth, because there was nothing left when they uprighted the van.
What does that have to do with sledding???IM pretty sure that a sled on a deck or trailer when you hit a moose at 100km or when you hit a semi head on or when you flip your truck after hitting an approach is not gonna stay put with a 10 dollar tie down from your local sled dealership.Ever pulled anything with a chain doesnt take much of a jerk to snap a link.Im sure a 28ft enclosed trailer loaded with sleds in going to snap a safety chain easily if it comes unhooked.Point is I have never seen anyone that wanted their new sled to fall off a trailer or deck, is it even an issue?Whole point of the the thread is that a guy can drive around for an entire year and then go to Valemount and all of a sudden cops are ticketing people for minor things.I guess RCMP dont all follow the same law book.

Hey transporter,
Just in case you haven't been reading this thread from the begining what Marcuso said has every thing to do with this thread. If you have been reading then you have proven that you have nothing but our time to waste with your stupid comments.I guess we all gave you the benifit of doubt after your post about not tieing down and your load is safe.I have seen many a semi on its side with all there load still strapped on deck but you seem to think that a properly strapped sled will not stay.I certainly hope that your name transporter doesn't mean you are a trucker because if you are you are a disgrace to the rest of us professionals that take our jobs and yours the public safety seriously.I can also see by your other posts you are a yahoo kid whom thinks not at all just action.Grow up!!!

Yah usually is truckers I see rolled on the hiway with their load spread all the way down the mountainside or the hiway closed because some truckers not chaining up coming out of golden and having a wreck on the hill, wonder why that is???I never said dont tie your sled down but I said that when you do I think it will only stay put under normal driving conditions, not when you have a head on collision with a semi that is driving to fast for road conditions. This isnt a slam on truckers I see alot of other drivers driving like idiots too,Ive never swerved around someones sled on the hiway I know that.

Once again insulting your own intelligence. You are quite head strong are you not? You will dig a hole no matter how immature it makes you look. When i saw you were 33 I was supprised as I figured this must be a kid who must have his own way or else. Please just grow up!!!
Any one that thinks that your safety chains won't hold your trailer should it come unhooked should have their head examined. Man you really are a piece of work. But from the way you didn't answer my question about being a trucker I guessing you are not so thank God.I hope when they finally pull your driving papers that they don't give it back. You probally think it is your right to drive instead of privaledge well you are wrong.

man, I hate to get into any of this. I spend 12 days a year in the Valemount/McBride areas each winter on two different trips each year for the last 4 years, never been pulled over or checked out yet. is there a campaign going on to check for safety and securement this year?

I haul 4 sleds, one on the deck and 3 in an enclosed trailer. all are transport secured with superclamps on the fronts and tiedowns on the rear, and a commercial load lock jack for the stuff in the trailer (yeah, I'm a trucker). nothing will shift in a ditching, but a rollover may jar stuff loose.

just run legal fellas, save some headache. smile when he pulls you over, and play dumb for the infractions and act apologetic. has worked with most DOT's for over 20 yrs.....

I dont have one ticket, never have gotten any since I started driving one warning. Can you say the same?I doubt my trailer will come unhooked so I wont have to test the strength of my little safety chain.Seen a few wrecks with trailers usually the hitch rips right off, chains and all.And no I dont drive truck, but I do own a Kenworth.Thats all I was saying too puttin her in the ditch tiedowns might hold but a major wreck forget it.

True say there teeroy,
I too didn't want to get in on this topic at all but after seeing the nonsense going on I had to speak up. Wish I hadn't but I am not about to back down now.Anyways happy safe sledding and have a nice day.

Do you honestly think it's not the same for us going down there? I've been treated like Bin Laden himself a couple of times....

Just a few points to clarify:

If there is not point in using tie downs, why bother wearing your seatbelt either? Guess there are no studies demonstrating that they save lives though....

Lose the attitude of "Cops doing nothing but handing out tickets to us poor, defenseless civilians", "power tripping" etc. If you had any ***gin' clue about what cops go through on a daily basis you would never, ever say something like that. Who do you think is there when a drunk driver crashes into a family van and kills them all or is the first to respond when someone takes a gun and kills their family and themselves or has to deal with domestic abuse/violence or having their own lives threatened as a daily routine? When you go to work each day, do you ever think that you might not make it home that night? Cops think about this at every situation they enter. RIP to the four officers who died in NE Alberta protecting the safety of others from a deranged psycho. :(

Where do you guys think some of the revenue for funding the police force comes from? Part of the funding comes from the revenue generated by WRITING TRAFFIC TICKETS!!!! Just like any other business they have a budget to meet. No tickets means no budget, no budget means no cops there when you drive off the road and injure yourself or really need their assistance. So get over it, tickets are going to be written, whether you complain about it on the internet or not.

Finally - what do you expect? A big jacked up truck with all the bells and whistles, brand new sleds and a an attitude? They saw you coming a mile away dude....besides that, you may not know what the last Albertan/guy in front of you did to piss him off? Maybe the last guy he pulled over was an arrogant Albertan who was all over the guy about giving him a ticket for passing on a solid double yellow in the middle of a corner? Maybe the guy in front of you told him to "F" off?

Unfortunately (and I'm not saying you in particular - this is a stigma attached to all Albertans) we are the land of promise and due to the extreme sense of self-entitlement some Albertans have, this is the image we have to live with and will be portrayed as such. There are far too many Albertans with large vehicles, driving way to fast on the way to their winter destinations. They flaunt their wealth in every way possible and have an attitude that they are almost untouchable. Drive to some of the popular ski resorts and sledding areas and you will see what I mean. 4 place trailers quadruple parked in a no parking zones when a empty lot is 100 ft away, drunken drivers, driving over medians and blatant dis-regard for any form of traffic law, 3 sleds loaded on a two place trailer sideways and one in the truck with no tie downs, open alcohol in vehicles, etc. (I have personallly seen each one of these first hand in Golden/Revy/Fernie).

Next time when engaged by a member of the law enforcement community, be a little humble and respectful, you may or may not get a ticket but you will be helping to change that image, which may be a net gain for you in the future.

Just something to think about.

Same here. On both sides. They're just doing their jobs. If you have nothing to hide, what are you worried about? Be cooperative and you'll be on your way much quicker.

Man o man you have a way with words I couldn't have said it better myself.
I would be and will be sending you some of the good reputation myself apparently I gave too much in a 24 hour period mainly bad but a couple of good but will remember all tommorrow. If only these people went by these codes the police could spend their time going after the criminals.I saw a check stop in Revy last weekend I sure hope they got a few of the impared ones off the road. I worry sometimes after leaving a cabin that the guy pizzed up who is falling down drunk that he is not on the trail behind me. To me sledding is sledding and drinking to much is for home or the bar.

Cheers,
Dave

I think British Columbians are very welcoming to any self respecting law abiding person from any where. If you come here to enjoy our beautiful province and provide local economies with a boost from your hard earned dollars, all the while being respectful and following the rules of the law We welcome you, If you come to dangle you big dollars and expect everyone to move out of your way and let you run a muck in our Province then POUND SAND and stay home.

Albertans are just trying to keep up with BC'ers.Pretty sure the boys from Cr Racing and Alpine started all this with their awsome high priced stuff they ride and sell.Nobody from BC or Alberta is flaunting anything well mabye a little but if you snowmobile you have expendable cash.

Have a nice day
