Welcome to Valemount B.C ?!?

LMAO if anybody thinks that tie downs or safety chains are going to actually secure anything in an accident. Not saying dont use them but they are just for show.

I guess you are the clued out one. What you wrote is here, but maybe it was your alter ego that wrote this post. You are a waste of skin.

You are clueless never once did I say I never tied my sleds down or dont use my safety chains.I did say I dont have covers on my lights didnt know I would get a ticket for that.I dont use them on public roads.Yah I'm glad I was born rich.LOL I think you must have some issues from being beat up during recess when you were a kid.Only reason I got involved with this thread was because that Cyle guy was insulting the patch.Everything else posted is just to pass time while I count my money.Mabye someday Ill get a job so I can buy something myself until then Ill just surf snowest.

You said safety chains wouldn't work if a trailer became unhooked, which is retarded that is the REASON they are there, and yes if they are proper chains they won't break. You really are clueless, and aren't worth explaining everything to

Well thats what I think if you have a wreck at 100km/hr on the hiway with another vehicle they will fail and if you just slide of the road into the ditch they might be ok.And im not talkin about a little two place trailer neither. My safety chains have a little weld holding them onto my trailer pretty sure that will hold for about two seconds after the ball or my hitch has ripped off my truck. Its the law to use them and they are there I just dont think they will do much good.

Canada....beautiful country but one WEIRD place. Went there once to pick up a sled in July, had my truck completely searched and totally messed up. Wouldn't step foot across that border again!!!

Xrider... I take it you don't get out much! That's a normal procedure for both sides.

Like the saying goes.. "he's driving like a Albertan" No offense, but there is a reputation there. I have to agree on the point that there are some cops and DOT's that are arrogant, narrow minded, people. So are some of the people posting on here. Some times being courteous to a arrogant cop is not a easy thing to do, but it goes a long way. Just secure the sleds down according to the law and quit bitc$ing.

When you have to go to calling people out because you have run out of intelligent things to say you show your true mentality. My 5 year old grand daughter has more up stairs than a few on this thread. And Mrs. HLCLMR if this is really you don't you think that it is about time you started acting your age not like a juvenile. If clues were shoes you'd be walking barefoot.

Hope the next person killed because of neglegence is some how comes to your family then maybe you will think more like an adult than a child.

Grow up
Dear Dave,
Juvenile? Well someone spank me and send me to my room. You should grab a Red Stripe, roll and fattie and go put your feet up somewhere sir...you are taking this post waaaaayyyyyy too seriously and quite frankly you are beginning to sound a little too much like Charlie Brown's school teacher...bwop, bwop, bwop, bwop, bwop.

And yes I just quoted Charlie Brown's school teacher, so go ahead, tear me apart you savage hound - I know you've got a few zingers left.

CHeers,
Mrs.HLCLMR

Dont mess with The Dave.

He knows everything.

Oh yah and for saying.....Hope the next person killed because of neglegence is some how comes to your family then maybe you will think more like an adult than a child. shows your true mentality. If you think I was telling people to not follow rules you are dead wrong I was just stating that mabye the rules werent sufficient enough.

So do you have anything intelligent to say in regards to this post ??? No I suppose you don't. There are people out there that when they run out of something intelligent to say they get all nasty. When someone pizzs you off driving i bet you are the kind to road rage instead of taking a plate # and calling police. And to quote a cartoon doesn't do much for your arguement.
In the cartoons the coyote always lives after the road runner finishes with him. Well in the real world, the one we live in, not the one on TV when your sled comes off the trailer or your trailer becomes unattached the people that you have killed or injured don't come back. So take your JUVENILE cartoon attitude and go back and watch the Simpsons. Man I can't believe the way some of you are so self centered. This post is about how to save your self some money and tickets at the same time making our world a better safer place. You do nothing but answer my posts but when a guy from BC tells you don't bother coming unless you can conform you still go after me. Go back to bed and let the adults talk now please.

This forum I am sure was put up for sledders to help sledders weather it be snow conditions or help with mechanical issues.
But when you get on a public forum and whine because you broke the law and got caught and got a ticket we the moral majority have the right to let you know our feelings as it is a public forum and a free world with free speech. Many have given advice but there are a few too ignorant to listen they just want us feel sorry for them for breaking the law and getting a fine.
So if you don't want to hear the moral majority opinion don,t post your whiner feel sorry for me post on a public forum. You might hear somthing you don't want to hear. But I am sure you are providing a lot of laughs on this site so lets keep this up,OK?

cops can do what ever they want, to a point..
hilclber, be glad your not in a 3rd world country(mexico etc) where the cop's can pull us out of our $80 000 trucks(I'm poor and own a ford ranager)( and a subaru sti;)) then they(fedreralies) will shoot you in the head, throw your bodies in the ditch and drive away with your rig. it happens
Canada rules, bc or alberta, out west is the place to be
my 2 cents

man, I hate to get into any of this. I spend 12 days a year in the Valemount/McBride areas each winter on two different trips each year for the last 4 years, never been pulled over or checked out yet. is there a campaign going on to check for safety and securement this year?

I haul 4 sleds, one on the deck and 3 in an enclosed trailer. all are transport secured with superclamps on the fronts and tiedowns on the rear, and a commercial load lock jack for the stuff in the trailer (yeah, I'm a trucker). nothing will shift in a ditching, but a rollover may jar stuff loose.

just run legal fellas, save some headache. smile when he pulls you over, and play dumb for the infractions and act apologetic. has worked with most DOT's for over 20 yrs.....

Yeah teeroy the guy who checked us at valemont said they are targeting sledders specifically this year so better give the regulations for bc a read cause they got some b.s. that the rest of the country doesnt have,,,We were fine,,,but lost 2hrs of our lives we'll never get back!! but i did see some stuff get handed out to guys that totally blew me away,,,oh yeah watch out for smokindave,,he's on the warpath over this one,,likely to call you some names,,,just for talking bout it lol

have a safe season everyone

lol...I can see both sides of the discussion, and sort of understand where everyone is coming from. Smokingdave has valid points about safety and securement, as well as yourself about feeling "singled out" because of geographic location.

A bunch of years ago when northern BC started really getting busy in the patch and we were over there a lot moving drilling rigs and equipment, they seemed to pick on us Alberta guys a lot. I even got sucked in to the anger and let my feelings be known to an officer in Dawson Creek. he totally raked me over the coals, and I learned to just shut my mouth when dealing with them. It must have been a problem, because a few years later, they seemed to really back off and mellowed out a lot.

now Charlie Lake scale is one of the most pleasant places to be checked, and I no longer have the anger. partly because I knew what they liked to hear and see, and partly because I think they realized we "got it" and try to keep our collective noses clean. I'm thinking this situation is quite similar, there has been just too many complaints about the plates from the next province over, maybe some unfounded, maybe some legit.

always remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. it may not have been you specifically that pissed someone off, we must all try to change the perception that Albertans are arrogant pr!cks that think they deserve to be treated differently, because we bust our azzes for the junk we have. some just see the expensive rigs and assume we are "that guy". sucks, but it's the way it is.

take care guys and gals, have a safe season. and for chrissakes, let's just try to get along. we are all sledders, and just wanna ride.....:beer;

wow this tread is nuts
cops can do what ever they want, to a point..
hilclber, be glad your not in a 3rd world country(mexico etc) where the cop's can pull us out of our $80 000 trucks(I'm poor and own a ford ranager)( and a subaru sti;)) then they(fedreralies) will shoot you in the head, throw your bodies in the ditch and drive away with your rig. it happens
Canada rules, bc or alberta, out west is the place to be
my 2 cents

Shot in the head!! That's harsh! I'm not bringing my sled down there!

I really don't want to get into a pizzin match with anyone, just thought I'd share a couple different experiences of mine.

First, on the subject of tie-downs and chains holding in an accident. In January, 2001, we were on our way to McBride with my Dodge diesel and a commercially built two-place trailer in tow. The highway west of Jasper was extremely slippery, so my speed never exceeded 80 km/hr. Just west of the Mount Robson parking lot, an east-bound pick-up lost control and crossed the center line right in front of me. I immediately turned my truck towards the ditch and stepped hard on the accelerator to try and avoid a head-on collision. The on-coming truck hit me in the driver's door and went down the left side of my truck, tearing the left rear leaf spring mounts off the frame and pushing the left rear tire and the rear axle back under the back bumper. The truck then hit the left front corner of my two place trailer. My buddy's sled was on the left side and took a direct impact. After we came to a stop, and starting assessing the damages, this is what we found. My buddy's sled was out on the shoulder of the highway in hundreds of pieces and my sled was at least fifty feet from the trailer up by the treeline (at least 75 ft off the highway). Both sleds were tied down as follows : A ski tie-down bar on the front with a 1/2" bolt in each and two 1,500 lb. ratchet straps on the back of each sled. Both front tie down bolts sheared off and all four 1,500 lb straps broke. As well, the 2'' trailer ball with 1" shank sheared off AND both DOT-approved safety chains broke. Granted, this is an extreme scenario, but I tend to agree with transporter about not depending on these devices in the case of an accident.

On the subject of officers giving frivolous tickets, I just want to share one example. A while ago, I was selling a vehicle and had a "For Sale" sign in the back window. I left the local mall and headed for home. Leaving the mall, I noticed the local RCMP staff sergeant following me and he ended following me right to my home. When I parked, he came up to my vehicle and asked for all my documentation. I said sure officer, but what did I do? He replies "You have a For Sale sign in your window which contravenes section ? of the highway safety act" He the tells me and I quote "It is my job as a member of this detachment to help generate at least $90,000 per month in traffic fines and this would be an easy one".. I told him I had no idea and took the sign down and he did let me off with a warning. The next day I wanted a little more clarification on this law, so I went to the RCMP attachment and talked to another officer about it. He explained the law to me, but also asked me if it was staff sergant Fehr that stopped me. I said yes to which this officer replied "It figures, he's the only one that has time to waste on things like that". So I guess, yes I did break the law, but when people are driving at excessive speeds and running red lights on hwy 16 through Hinton all the time, why did this officer feel it was much more important to follow me home over a sign ?

Ok, I'll let you guys in on a little local secret. This is how it works. The local sledders bribe the Dot & Cops to stop outsiders for at least 2 hours, just until we get a chance to track up most of the nice powder for ourselves. If you guys don't want to get stopped, just be a couple hours late! Just trying to help!

The rest of the country also doesn't have twisty snow covered 2-lane climbing and decending thousands of feet with sheer cliff drops if you mess up. I'm not as "by the book" as some, but the regs are there for a reason. If you're drivin...at night...in the snow, no plow for the last 2 hours...on a mountain pass...come over a crest and there's Johhny coming at you with his off-road lights on and overloaded leveled out truck pointing to the sky...and you can't see where that road ends and that 300 foot cliff starts....that ticket won't be looking so frivolous all of a sudden will it?

$109 no covers on foglights,

I think you are very lucky to have gotten away with only a $109 fine. DO you have any idea how dangerous it is to drive with no covers on your fog lights.

The first thing they teach you in driving school is to cover those darned fog lights up before someone gets killed.

edit - I thought that his claim to getting a ticket for no fog covers was a joke. After eading the thread, it sems as if he actually got a ticket for no covers on his fog lights. My truck has factory fog lights and a cover is not an option. Both of my cars have fog lights and covers are not an option.

what a joke

A rig worker working hard? Pretty sure that is a oxymoron. You show up to work everyday and you get a frigging bonus on the rigs, pretty pathetic. I'm not going to get into the pissing match, but I can tell you right now I work harder then most rig workers, very few know what real work is anymore. I like how you try to throw it in my face that i'm 19. When the fact is I have more to show for working then most rig workers who buy the fancy toys only to loose them because they throw their money away worse then a 4 year old. Keep riding the wave, the bust will come eventully and almost all the rig workers will loose everything like they did in the 80's.....but they aren't dumb enough to have it happen again, or are they?

cant beleive I missed all this , i have worked the rigs all my life never got any bonus's ever , the only bonus I would enjoy is schooling you cyle , your an idiot , you stereo type riggers for loosing everything , it happens to all industries , its to do with the people not the work , I challenge you to show me what you have since you have more than us rig workers , AND as for us not working out on the rigs ,we do more in a day than you would in a week
any time you want to discuss this further i can make arangement to meet your sorry aZZ in your town or on the hill , i will beat ya like a step child

For the record guys i'm not from alberta,,and i agree totally we have to have our ducks in a row when we head out, i stated that in my original post,,love valemont,,and couple volunteer dot guys won't keep me away! JUST trying to say it was a little overboard, with the lectures and all,,i've been at this for a solid 20 years and i learn a new one everytime i head out, But i will not accept the attitude of this individual last friday and think he done a poor job off representing the people of the area,,He wasn't spoke to in a disrespectful manner,,so one would expext the same in return....I have no problem owning up to mistakes,,diliberate or through my own ignorance of the rules,,,,,,,,,,,,BUT ALL BEWARE WHEN HEADED THERE,,THEY ARE LOOKING FOR YOU ALL,,NO MATTER WHERE YOUR FROM AND THEY DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR EDUCATION,PROFESSION,OR RACE IS

HAVE A SAFE SEASON
