Hi Spook, I will probably go to Valdez as well, I missed A-man due to broken sled. It should be put together today and I can only hope it'll run. I have never been to this hill climb, where exactly is it held? Do people park at Worthington gl? If not, how far is it from Valdez?
akmc800, I live in Palmer and hope to ge headed that way on Monday....
The wife and I have hit this weekend for three years now. We usually get a hotel room in Valdez, and drive up to the Pass each day. We have been dissapointed by the dining choices and have opted for bringing our own food this time.
I have seen; many camp by the road, also an igloo built at the entrance to the Worthington Glacier Parking lot (with nice little holes for chilling beers

)
and a bivouac set way up in a mountain top bowl for the more hearty.
Rooms can be slim this time as there are a heck of alot of heli-skiers in town that weekend too.
Normally we get there on Thursday but might not make it till Friday late or Saturday morning.
Great terrain, minimal trees, I always bring a chin strap as the views from the top are jawdropping.
With the warm weather and the longer days, we found it easy to ride well into the night, and a second tank, but would arrive in town after all the resturants had closed.
I have recorded GPS tracks where we have ridden, available in Mapsource format.
And Mr.Safety says, watch out for crevasses!
Surprisngly, we found ourselves on top of glaciers when we didn't expect to be, and at one in particular she wanted to "....just see whats down there..."
after putting my foot down and riding down and around the valley, found that we potentially could have ridden right over the face wall of a hanging glacier. Pucker factor 11+ captain.
The competition is as intense as the climbs, and there is alway alot of shenanigans to watch right along the road, as people climb, jump and drop the cliffs that line the road near the competition.
