Snowmageden

This deal has got me considering snow check for the first time ever. Leaning towards the mc 154 because I like the color best out of the 3 and haven't had any issues with floats yet. Also considering e-start, there are just those times it would be nice, plus I'm getting lazy.

So being new to this snow check thing how does it work as far as financing? ( I know, I know, don't finance toys yada yada yada. ) Do you have to get financing when the deposit is made or do you wait until you pick up the sled in the fall?

I just called my dealer as I'm most likely going to be buying a Riot for my wife. This is what they are doing I'm sure other dealers may be different depending on location: Price is as listed +400$ shipping cost which they have no way getting out of. Warrantee is one year with option to purchase another 2 years for 500$. No special financing options, rates with shieffield financial kinda suck(between 6-7%) so were either gonna pay cash or check our credit union rates. Deposit is 750$ due before April 14th

2 years for $500 seems reasonable... really wish there wasnt a freight charge, “hidden fees” suck!

I won't get estart till they figure out how to keep the 11.7gal tank . Not going with 10.3 gal tank.... I've put 10.6 gallons in mine...

I have e start on my 19. Use aftermarket can (SLP worked) and a small lithium battery mounted to the front of the can. I used the Dia S can and there’s a ton of room for a bigger full size battery but I never swapped batteries. On one cold morning I had to pull start for the first time rest of the time it works great.

E START IS SO WORTH IT!

great price but its certainly going to have add ons. also begs the question what happens to 2019 alphas sitting at the dealers now in the retail range of 14k ish range before dealer mark downs? I got the rebate on my 19 alpha so I was at 12600 plus add ons.

Its certainly got to be tough to be a dealer these days.

as for the new sales model they are using, from a business perspective it makes perfect sense...too much inventory is never good. my understanding is that a dealer borrows money to purchase inventory so at a minimum owes interest on that...in addition to lost profit as the sleds age sitting around and then are eventually discounted to near cost.

Sell them during the regular season as hold overs. That's the whole point of this snowcheck only deal: to clear out the old inventory during the regular season.

I would look for different aftermarket warranties. There are better ones out there.

I'll break down my latest motor failure on my 18. Snow check with a 4 year warranty. Thought Cat was factory 4 year warranty now. Nope, 1 year factory and 3 years Cat Care. Cornerstone Cat Care is a fvcking joke. I blew my motor so bad it took out my reed, throttle body, Y pipe, and threw a ton of material into my pipe. Cornerstone told my dealer to call this place and ask for a USED motor. Saying they only have to put it back to the condition it was in before the motor blew which is a used motor. Dealer called and they just got rid of their last used motor. So Cornerstone agreed they needed to put a new motor in along with an oil pump since it failed. Then Cornerstone said debris from the failure isn't covered under warranty. So the reed, throttle body, Y-pipe, injector, and pipe aren't covered even though they were severely damaged by the failure. Some how though I think we are going to get at least the reed, throttle body and Y pipe covered after a big $hit show with them. Yes, FVCK Cornerstone and Cat Care. Never once have I dealt with this kind of crap with them on past sleds/claims.

Ouch that’s a far cry from advertised price. Might not be such a great deal after all
States like mine will have ~$1,000 state tax. Then if u have to pay $400 shipping...... over $14k for me.

Yikes! Sorry to hear, that's way $hitty to deal with.

I assume HCRRider's out the door cost includes taxes so not that bad.

It is simply smart business and I commented on this earlier with the snowcheck only and limited models option. They will not have to guess on their supply chain extended lead time order items/components, they will not run a production line longer than needed, they will not need more inventory storage space that needed, they won't have to execute on any last minute component purchase (low volume and high price), they can move to a JIT production model for the entire production run and pump it out quick, dealers won't be forced to take excessive inventory, AC won't have to push incentives to get rid of inventory once we are in Jan/Feb of the year, and the lack of different model types means they have a very efficient, streamlined production model.

I think this is all awesome and it should lower the price. I always felt snowmobile costs were way up there...but can understand why. AC will streamline their production methods and run lean and mean...which is what I would expect from a company like Textron to do. Snowmobiles are super easy to build compared to many of their other products.

I expect price to be even lower next year...because this will gain them market share and they will produce more units.

I haven't read this whole thread and may be missing something, but how is this ordering thing any different than in the past? Who the heck "orders" a sled out of snow check? Aren't in-season purchases typically bought right off the showroom floor? Just seem like fancy marketing talk with no actual difference in how folks usually buy sleds...

AC will only offer sled sales through the snowcheck option...dealers will not be carrying a planned inventory (70 units, for example) which they are relying on customers to buy from their inventory off the floor.

Now, I assume that anyone who backs out from a snowcheck late in the cycle may see their sled go to the dealer's floor for a direct dealer purchase...but I'm not sure of the terms of something like that between dealers, the customer and AC. But, doesn't sound like anyone can anticipate a bunch of sled inventory sitting on the floor that a dealer hopes to sell.

seems to be some variances in the "fees" from different dealers. Some are claiming nothing other than a $70 doc fee. Others claim there is a "mandatory" freight fee, setup fee, etc etc. So like usual it may pay to shop around a little if the local guy doesn't want to play. Taxes are taxes, wouldn't matter what the price is some states just have to deal with that.....

Gotcha! Yeah I just priced a new base alpha and with shipping which is a joke and assembly plus doc fee it was $610 on top msrp. I don’t. Get why I should have to pay shipping? Dealerships receive multiple units at one time and if every unit was $450 then they are making a killing

Should be interesting. Seems like they are going to have a serious drop in sales with this new plan. What about my dealer? They have already travelled to other dealers picked up and sold their excess inventory too! They have 3 2016 models left, that's it... So no sleds on the floor sure seems like serious mistake. There are thousands of sledders who do not even know what snow check is. So they wait until the snow flys in Nov and there are no new Cat sleds at the dealer? That is insane.

Seems like a sure fire plan to eliminate sled production altogether. First cut it in half or less, find out that isn't very profitable and then shut it down. Yamaha, here comes Cat right behind you...

I don’t know why everyone is bitching about shipping. All manufacturers charge shipping, it’s been a part of cat for years. Dealers get charged a separate shipping fee on top of their dealer cost. How long do you think youd be in business if you ate a $400 charge on every product you sold, not very long. Set up and doc fees will vary widely from dealer to dealer. The new pricing is amazing, good job for cat.

Well I’m in ag and I cant just tack on shipping and expect to be paid???? Anyway I think the shipping should be less is my point. It’s not like every single snowcheck is delivered separately right? So come on really?

So snowchecks that get backed out of next fall should be 750 off the price list plus all the extra garbage? If that is so the case I’ll have a solid back up sled next year :face-icon-small-hap

Talking like a business owner, or someone that is (or has been) responsible for keeping the lights on and the doors open...

But I want it "good and cheap"!
