I breezed through that post, and Christopher has a very commendable history.
The amazing thing is however the striking lack of judgement. Check this out:

FYI: the Foundation of SnoWest is the MEMBERS! This forum existed as a lone server in a magazine publisher's closet with buggy software, under-powered hardware and minimal administration for a long time and it is the community that somehow rose from the ashes that created what it is today.

I hear ya bro! There is a lot of history on here...even sacred history in my opinion. Animal (Dave) was a great man! Those were definitely the good ol' days! I miss them! Like Ollie says, "Those were the fun days!" Those were the days I made the majority of my life long friends on this forum.

It is pretty disgraceful that a certain person can't spend some time doing some research into this "community" before he steamrolls it. This "community" has it's own set of mores, just like a small town in America. How many small towns approve of the new city boy coming in and changing everything without talking to the citizens first. Get it now?

Like I said, I will most likely pay for a year to see how it goes. However, I don't hold high aspirations due to the way it has been going.

First off I gotta say I have a post that has not been postable. For some reason it is a Method not Implemented. Anyway I guess it is an unacceptable post. I don't know if it is to long or what but it doesn't work. This is the second one with some wind to it that is not accepted.

The real reason I'm is to say I am dissapointed in what is going on. This has turned into a personnal attack thread. We have all gotten along for years with a few minor exceptions along the way. Like any trail we get bent out of shape and sometimes have to drag our buts outta the brush. We all have opinions and are entitled to them. My education level is not on the line here. The point of this forum is to share our opinions and hope someone listens. Now I sound like a moderator for SW. Sorry bout that not intentionnal... just sad to see whats happening!!!

Its obvious to me that Christopher has shaken the bees nest with this thread, and it has not gone the way of the admin, further evident by Christopher's apparent abandonment of the thread. NEWS FLASH! Its not the same four guys voicing there decent for your fairytale product, more so a wide cross section of new, old, posters and non posters. The writings is on the wall, question is, will anyone listen? Put up another poll, let the members decide. Funny how the last poll thread was convienently closed.

I'm a dumb a$$$ tradesman.... call it how you like. I also have a cpu ticket and 1st year of eng. So what? We all have knowledge and a lack of... that's why we are here. Hopefully we can all gain a little a piece at a time. I get help and give help. I ask no $$$ for my services. I post my for sale items and hope someone buys them. I list items on e-bay where it cost $$$. It is about exposure and sometimes it costs$$$. I own a metal fab shop. advertising costs$$$. As far as memberships go??? I don't have the right answer. Time will tell the tale. I once said no way I will pay to listen to the radio.... I now own a sirius. Who knows the answer? I fully plan on staying here untill the pay as you go plan is implemented. At that time I will make a decision. I surf lots of other sites and there is definitely some good content out there elsewhere. That is what is so great.... we all have the choice.

We are all equal on here. I don't think I have ever put someone down for their education level...if I have I apologize. A college degree doesn't make anyone smarter, it gives him/her more knowledge. Sure, getting an education can ignite critical thinking, but most professional people are critical thinkers. I have no doubt you have more wits about you than dsp. People like him are close-minded fools IMO. They think they are smarter because of their education and become completely close-minded to listening and learning because they have (think they have) all the knowledge. Everyone can learn from everyone. I learn things from my 10 year old boy all the time.

I think this mentality has plagued the admin too. They know better and don't listen.

I may have education smwizz, but I bet you make more money than me...so who is the real dumba$$? haha Cheers!

While I understand that $10 isn't a lot of money, I do not think I will be signing up for a membership to Snowest Forum. I have however subscribed to Snowest magazine for ages, but they have actual journalists, editors, articles and pictorals. The magazine is not filled with my personal writings or my neighbors pictures from the weekend. There is a drastic difference in the two resources.

I have been here on the forum for a long, long time, since 1996 or 1997. I've come to share my knowledge of snowmobiles, meet new friends, pickup some information, do some friendly bashing and be on my way. I have absolutely loved Snowest. However, I am not excited about the new bells and whistles or the added features. I don't need them. I don't want them, and I will not pay for something I don't need or want. Snowest was great for me as a member for over 15 years. It didn't need all this tweaking in my opinion.

Unfortunately PAYING for a forum based website, where members are supplying 99% of the content and then turning around and charging those members to do so, goes against my grain. We simply come here to share with each other. Nobody is going to charge me to share my own information. I will simply offer my free advice and listen to others offering their free advice on other websites that are directly intended and geared towards sharing free information. Good luck with your business venture. I am sure you will make a lot more money, while you turn an otherwise excellent website into a paycheck. I hope it pays off.

I really wasn't accusing you of anything. Simply stating I hate to see everyone at each others throats. The members did not create this situation. Those with good solid statements should not be penalized for expressing their views. As far as personal attacks go.... not req'd. I agree with keep the internet free! I just don't see it all staying that way. It is a phenonenom that has grown exponentially. No one person can control it and there will always be free sites. The corporate sites are structured to make $$$. That is the bottom line!!! How much say do we have.... none! We can only take it or leave it. It is a personal choice. Problem is... "trade unions unite!!!".... sure unions stand united, but in this day, moment and time there are way to many non-union members to fill our place. It is like rebellion: Until things are so bad they are unbearable for all, there will be no change. So until no one visits.... it will be SW or the highway.

10 Year+ users are droping like flies.
Contributors are already frazzled and discouraged.

Unfortunately, still got you beat In any case, I didn't actually tell you that I was more educated; I was being ironic. And since you missed it the first time, I was saying that "vocabulary" and "education" smack are dumb. I picked the dumbest thing, "Education" smack, and essentially created a reductio ad absurdum. It's called "nuance." Perhaps you should have taken more "Engrish" classes whilst pursuing your "MS."

I was simply sharing that this happens EVERY FRICKIN' TIME SnoWest changes anything on the forum. A host of users threaten to quit (some do), then they all end up back here after the other forum proves lame. And, by the by, you didn't get banned because posted about the demise of Redline. You got banned because you posted the same thing over, and over, and over, and over, and over, Ad nauseam. The dog-and-pony show is what got you banned. To be honest, I can't ever remember the SnoWest mucky-mucks ever even talking about protecting Redline. In fact, I don't remember even talking about Redline on the forums outside of how annoying the whole thing was getting.

I see alot of people complaining about the people who don't want to pay for a website access.

It isn't the fact that people have to pay $10 for the service. It is the fact that there are many quality websites that have just as much information, and some of them have as many as twice more members and you can be on them for FREE.

They don't have all the bling-bling web features..why....because they don't need them. The number of people who will actually USE those features is minimal, yet the entire site needs to pay for it.

What it comes down to is most people are going to continue to use the services they are familiar with, and all the fluff is designed as a dog and pony show. It is designed to give the providier a reason for making that money.

Why don't I want to pay...the $10 has nothing to do with it. What is has to do is that this site is not the only game in town. If it was, I would pay the money to get the information from this site, and its members.

I see alot of people trying to reason it away as it is only $10. But I guess I don't have money to throw out the window. $10 is $10. It is MY $10 and I chose what to do with it.

Fact is: Snowest is NOT the only game in town, and there are many more websites that I can get the exact same information, create the same bonds and sell/buy my stuff from....for Free.

It is complete arrogance for Snowest to think that this site is so elite that people should pay for the priviledge of being here, expecially when there are many other websites of the same nature that are free. Site sponsorship should be plenty to keep this site afloat. If that were NOT true, there would not be any other websites still around.

The fact that they even asking for this fee says one of two things, either the don't have the sponorship to make it happen, or the sponsorship money is being misused.

It is easier to take $10 from 32,000 people, than to take $320,000 from one person.

I guess my main questions to have answered are these: If other sites can manage to keep afloat and make money with only sponsorship money, why can't Snowest? Or.....did someone see money signs to make even more money off the people who got them to where they are?

Funny thing is... education or not... there are some of us who are not threatening to quit. We are simply waiting..... . Let us see what happens. Then a decision shall be made. It is not a bad thing to converse with others. I agree... empty threats become boring and stale. There will be those who actually do quit. Some will leave and come back. Some will stay. Most importantly, there will be those who do care to stay. Of those people there will be the ones who say nothing and those who feel they have something important to say.
