With so many similar FREE snowmobiling sites, why would SW even be thinking charging an access fee would work?

Oh I just got a typical arrogant responce in the form of a PM from his holiness.

I got an infraction for profanity from Christopher.
Thats dang funny since I was the one who added all the little *** instead of spelling out the entire word, not your Profanity Sensor Program, No profanity was used.

If someone could do a search (I'm at work and I don't have the time) for a thread a while back, about 8 months or so, we were talking about this same subject exactly.
The funny thing is, back then I was willing to pay for this site and so were most of the folks who responded because it WAS well run and not overly moderated or un-necessarily censored.

Now that it has lost a great deal of it's personality and most senior members it's really becoming a joke.
I am no longer interested in giving them one fuc**ng penny to log on an be pissed about another cutsie, stupid addition Christopher has deemed necessary for OUR forum.
The speed, or lack of is directly related to all the stupid crap you flung on the site. There's no way to deny it...
It was faster before you **cked it all up.

I don't give a fat flying Fu*k how important he feels he is.
It's the input and technical suggestions from the members that made this site what it used to be.
I'll be hanging out with a huge influx of former Snowest forum members over at http://backcountryrebels.com/index.php for now.
It's damn fast and there doesn't appear to be any as**oles trying to turn it into Twitter or facebook or any other teen site.

Oh, and Christopher...Get a sack and answer this thread.
Your absence only works to prove the rumor to be fact.

And here is the PM...
He'll do this which proves he's reading the thread but he won't address the issue of paying for use of the Forum.

H-m-m-m-m-m-m, can I switch to door #2 ?????

I guess I thought that my paid subscription for the magazine entitled me to use this site. If I have to pay to use this site, after paying for the magazine subscription........I guess I won't pay for either. Harris Publishing may want to keep that in mind, I believe that I won't be the only one that drops the subscription.

This of course is all just speculative based on these supposed rumors. I will wait and see what happens then decide based on proof instead of rumors.

So who was the Snowest member that started this new Backcountry site anyway?

I too have been paying for the Mag (and Sledheads) for years because I used the forums to get info. There is no real content on snowest forum that is harris publications generated- it comes from the users. Heck the editorials in the Mag have made fun of these forums and taken users content and made it into inches of columns than the writers have put onto the forum. The only time a Steve Janes post I have ever seen was an alter ego that was promptly shut down.

I have said this about most media that started by giving away content for free - the cat is out of the bag. If with my paid subscription to the mag I got forum rights I might not leave. If I had to pay for forums I probably would drop the mag since the forum is more or less why I still subscribe.

My life has gotten busier in the past couple of years and I am not as into sledding as I was but I still try to keep fairly current on where things are going. Recent changes here have made it that much harder to do and sadly I feel that I will probably be done with SnoWest sooner rather than later with current trends of this forum - I have been coming here since June 1997.

The speed thing has been annoying but the changes that have been made are the deal breaker with me. The new admin has not been good for the morale or the operations of the forum.

If we get notice that we are getting locked out I would suggest that if you are leaving for the last time - delete your posts, especially the ones with really helpful information. No need to give them for free what they then are going to be selling in the future.

I guess if everyone else leaves there won't be much point in staying:rolleyes: especially when there are other sites like Snow&Mud and TY4stroke. Gonna join that new one you guys mentioned as well

Adrenaline Revolution is dead on.

SnoWest is REALLY starting to suck. It's nothing like it used to be and getting worse with every stupid change that is made. Like others mentioned, I would have paid a year ago, but there is no way in hell I'm paying for it now.

Christopher and the people at Harris Publishing are very close to reaching EPIC FAIL.
