Silber Install Tips

I disagree. If your experience has been good with running 2 cycle oil in a turbo thats good, but a lot of data proves otherwise. Theres a small turbo manufacture called borg warner that I do work with and this conversation has came up in the past regarding to 2 cycle engine oil and using it as the oil for the bearings. I do a bit of development work with BW on turbos and am going to trust there R&D on this subject. 2 cyle oil will create coking in a turbo over time. Any turbo should be able to last a a few thousand miles B&W designs turbos to last 200,000-1million miles dependend upon application.

Fair enough. In doing these we have to remember what they are used for and the actual life span we are dealing with.

I think that's the key there. Most of these turbos on 2 stroke sleds will never see say for example 30,000miles of use(whatever that equals in sled miles or use) so that MAY not even be enough time to coke the bearings. All theory of course.
I've had this same discussion about BOV's with one of my buddy's. We come to the same conclusion the useful life of these turbos may not even be long enough for it to make a difference.

I'll go with what my turbo builder recommends. At least then if a turbo fails it eliminates that scenario. Just seems to me these turbos are sort of designed for automotive oil since most are originally designed for cars but are now being used on sleds. And while we may not reach 200k miles on a sled, we are pulling more boost for longer periods of time. We hold it wide open at max boost for long pulls vs. a car normally you only go full throttle in a race or to pass someone. Why reinvent the wheel?

You are right, they are designed for automobile oils.
You will also find out shortly why those of us that have ran turbos for any period of time on a two stroke run two stroke oil.. Nothing like trying to get a two stroke to run with motor oil throughout its charge tube and intake....it actually runs, just not so good for a while!

Can someone show me a good pic of a oil pressure gauge installed and where you installed it. I am thinking of doing a pressure switch but wasn't sure what type of line and stuff silber uses. Was hoping to have it all by the time my kit shows up. Thanks.

PIC#3-Went to the local autoparts store and picked up a brass T, so i could t off the supply line.

PIC#2- Take a 3/8 hose line and run it up the trispar chassis to the guage.

PIC#1- 0-15psi autometer guage, hook it up to this.

Works great cost $50 bucks all said and done.

When you guys get tired of the grommets ripping on the airbox bolts, go to a plumbing section and get some square cut washers for water taps. Work way better.

Pic for what they look like, picked some up today but not sure if there the ones your talking about. :face-icon-small-con
