Question: Worst sled you've ever owned?

'86? indy 400. The one with the rad under the hood I think(kinda hard to remember I was maybe 9 or 10). Stop every ten feet to rejet and let it cool off. But it was the sled I first started to ride on my own.
next would be my 03 vertical mistake. Torn bulkhead in 3 spots, two wrecked clutches(pipe spring fell off and stuck in the belt), blown clutch side drive bearing, and one very blown motor, all in about 300 miles. Still paying for it a year later and I rode it 3 times. When it runs it is very fun to ride though!

yea i would have to agree with the 650 being a bit harsh on pistons. but the biggest pos of all time was my 97 580 powder special.

ha ha - that was my first sled. 97 Powder Special 580 EFI. I still have it (kept for a kid sled) and it has around 3500 miles on it now and i've swear i've never done a thing to it. It's never blown a belt, always started on the third (or less pull) and just keeps on smokin'. The only thing it liked to go through were shocks, but that was my big a$$ fault. Apperantly they don't like cornice drops! ha ha :D

95 670 Summit. Wouldn't climb, didn't go down hill very well either. Worst POS on the snow. Watched a buddy, his girlfriend and my wife triple up a hill past me stuck. I was happy when it broke a rod, and cut the engine in half. NEVER will I own a Ski-Doo product again.

01 MXZ 700. Totalled because no dealer could help me figure out how to help it hook up. No transfer. Fast as all get out, but had to creep thru corners. Ill never get anthing new but a Cat from now on. My .02.

well i had three pos 91 arctic cat wildcat junk 1996 arctic cat zrt 3 in a row didnt make it go and a 1994 polaris indy storm they were all junk :D

Ya my buddy had a Wildcat....what a major POS! Cat has sure come a long way since the 90's.

Wow, I've had a few!
mid 60s Snow Goose [ had to start it with ether ]

72 olympique [ one lunger]

94 or 5 700 Wildcat[ worst POS ever built ]

97 580 Powder special, [ changed stators every 2 weeks ]

theres a few more, but, just remembering these ones has been painful , and made me crave booze, time to get drunk !!!!!!

My first sled. A 96 Arctic Cat ZRT 600. Bought it, struggled to get it started, rode it once. 2nd time out, struggled to get it started, rode it and the track spit out the back. Put new track under it, struggled to get it started, rode about 2 miles and burned up the top end. Ordered a wiseco piston kit, rebuilt the fuel pump and cleaned carbs. 3rd attempt, struggled to get it started, took it out of the shop and something in the clutch went out. Went to hit the kill switch, nothing, turned the key, nothing. Had to pull the plug wires off to kill it. That was enough. It went bye bye.

Also had a 95 Vmax 600. Relaible as they come. But what a turd to ride and look at!

Has to be the 07 800r X, I couldn't have picked a worse time to buy Two of the same sleads. 18 belts, 2 blown motors, clutches that had more shop time than the skidoo mechanic:eek::eek: It turns out you CAN give those away and feel good about it:D:D I was running out of hair to pull out.

Close second was the 55 gallon drum that rode me around for the 05 season, RT1000, although it did constantly challenge your skills when going full throttle uphill and it decided to fall flat on it's face.....made for some interesting suituations:mad:

Probably my '98 powder extreme. Just a mismatched combo in every way. God forbid you actually want to go ride powder with the thing. It must weigh 800 pounds with a 136" track, so it will dig to china if you let it. The H.A.C. went crazy on me. When I got it, the thing would probably go 100+ mph. Plus you cannot clutch it for mountain riding to save your life. My brother in law owns mine now. It's pretty much a garage ornament now.

The pearl white hood is kind of pretty though.

Probably the 1997 MxZ 583. It just was such a pile when it came to starting, running, handling, color, and just about everything else. I bought Ski-Doo again but it was one of the purchases I wish I never made.

1992 RXL 650 efi . When it ran, it ripped. But man, after 2 hrs of riding after buying it, cranks gone, fixed, 3 hrs riding, middle piston gone, fixed, battery doesn't have enough voltage, ecu gone, fixed, etc.... God, those were the days.;)

My dad still rides one of those today, very good sled. He has had it since it was new and all he had to do was relocate one relay that was overheating. It rips for it's age.

I am going to go ahead a say my 03 Rev 600ho.....never ran right, clutching was always an issue, then the gas tank started to leak and decided to catch fire in the cooke city parking lot. I was happy about it....didnt have to feel bad to sell it to anyone else and a got a great insurance check!!!

A guy I know had a Yamaha 750 V-Max...I'm not sure the year, maybe 80's. It was a 4-cylinder and almost entirely aluminum frame, but it still weighed about 800 lbs! It was always breaking down. He took it to the mountains once and got stuck everywhere.

'93 Thundercat...everytime you whacked to go lever it was like issuing a self destruct command...didn't dare venture very far off the setup snow.....

Probably have to start with my 99 XC700. Tried to make it a decent mountain sled and it fought back the whole time. I have totally changed my ways though. I now have a 06 IQR that I have turned into a decent mountain sled. Slow learner, huh? My least favorite was my 05 King Cat turbo. That sled was extremely high maintenance. It ran like crazy when it wanted to.

1972 Evinrude Nordic (I think thats what it was called, we called it the 'mailbox' because it hit a few while ditch banging...) taught me how to wrench on sleds though...

had a mid season 95 ZRT600... awesome when she went but I think I came out about even on ride vs. wrench time after 3 years... used to have a huge box full of broken motor mounts.... gave it to a friend and he must have added another 20lbs trying to brace and reinforce everything...

Had an 87 safari 377 that could never hold its motor together...

Best was my 05 F7, never in the 2 years I owned it did I touch a wrench to that sled.

Sleds are just inherently high maintenance and if you're not mechanically inclined it can be a very a frustrating sport.

I have been the owner of a lot of sleds over the years and some I have liked more than others. Although it generated a lot of power and looked cool back in the 90's, my long tracked '94 ZR700 had to be the least reliable, hardest to boondock and overall biggest turd of a sled I have ever had the opportunity to own!

I traded it for a '96 580 Powder Special (which just happens to have been one of the best I've owned!)

the 96 was my first 'real' sled.... quite a ride.... still one of the best sleds I've EVER owned... worst would have to be a 95 puma... ha... what a joke, had NO idea what me and my dad where doing!! But my heart is still with the 96 PS!! even after the hood, pipes, roller secondary, etc.... quite a mod after a bit!!
