Question: Worst sled you've ever owned?

its funny, you always hear about how some of the new sleds are total pieces of crap, but they dont even get mentioned on here, new sleds even when bad are still a lot better then older ones!!

i own one of the biggest turds ever, an 05 RT 1000, some people seem to have horrible issues with them, mine runs spot on, after i fixed some issues when i got it only had to change on set of plugs in.... 9 rides now?? i cant compain, no tow rope for me so im stoked!!

ovation

1992' Yamaha ovation 340. Even if it was the worst sled i've owned, it was still a blast to ride. I was only a young teen when I had it. Put over 5000 miles on it with no motor problems. The track was only like 108" so as you can imagine it didnt like the deep snow, but at least when it was stuck it was light (360lb.) Had electric start that always worked, and would run even when it was colder then -50 F which I tested out several times. Yamaha sure didnt do a good job by running that Telescopic front suspension though. After I wore it out, or so I thought the next owner put on an additional 6000 miles for a total of more then 11,000 and that was the last time I checked years ago. Try getting that out of our new sleds!!!

Been Sledding for Twenty years started on a Ski Doo olmypic 299 circa 1967
came with a shed full of parts and had to tighten almost every bolt every ride.
had 340 jag 1978 never had motor apart no power couldn't blow up!
1992? phazer the red and white 136 model learned how to change pistons let me tell you! This was my worst sled by far.
1997 670 summit 4600 miles never broke down. Only thing I ripped the bars off it way back in the mountains no fun at all.
2000 800 RMK went from stock to full mod in 2 winters. Full light weight parts. motor full port twin pipes real high comp sold it 2 years ago orignal crank and bearings 6000 miles this sled was great!
1050 price triple in a zx chassis fabcraft skid etc. dynoed 235hp always ran good crank bearings would only last a year but wow what a ride
current sled 08 d8 with all polaris engine updates installed BD pump gas turbo 8 psi real fun see how it lasts. I can not beleive a 2 stroke turbo runs at all thank god for computers and EFI!

the sleds that I think are the real pos are the newer ski doo's they run sealed bearings in their cranks packed with grease they just don't last past 1600miles they should give up on this and oil them off the injection

But a day riding even if you break down is still better than being bored at home and the new sleds are far better than the old ones think you could get 1600miles out of that 1967 olympic probably not

Ditto! That was funny! I can relate. Thinking how am I gonna get the trailer down here if it gernades! haha

93' T-Cat continued....

Everytime I hear of a sled that is a chronic belt eater it sends shivers down my spine... this sled would litterally turn the belt inside out on the sheaves...while the sled was running down the trail mind you...part of which was gearing, but even with mountain cat gears and a 121 X 1.75 track it would still rip the guts out of the belt and leave you with the top half still trying to run the show. When I first got it it had carbide picks in the track and how someone behind me never got killed I don't know...it would spit the stud out with a chunk of track still attached to it....I believe that I had the only ported track at the time because you could stick your thumb right through the hole where the stud had been. The snow flap looked like a druken Wisconsin duck hunter had used it for taget practice the morning after. It chewed through idler bearings like Rosie Odonnell at a Krispy Kreme open house, drive chains, the mount on the bulk head where the secondary bolts to the jackshaft had welds on top of welds on top of welds.....I bet Doc Zoom was giggling his a$$ off when I left his shop with that thing....

900 RMK!!!!!

Very slim chance you will ever see another Poo in my garage after the way Polaris crapped on their customers over that. Saddest part is, I worked at a dealership at the time.

1981 Yamaha SRX 440...went like a raped ape IF you could get it over 6000 rpm. Had to go down hill for a hundred yards to get enough speed to go up hill! Ate about a clutch per week too. I hated that sled!

'72 Snowjet wasn't real great either!

1995 A/C Wild Cat Mnt Cat. Blew clutches apart like they were stuft w/ TNT:eek: Found out later it was the crank. About every third ride it would alsoblow a different fuse.
1997 Summit X 670. Brand new off the trailer and only went 8 miles before the bottom end let go.. Doo replaced entire engine after 3 long weeks. Next ride made it 3.5 miles before the top end squeeked do to a unround cylinder. Doo replaced cylinder and piston. 2 months later the chain case exploded  Sonn after the rear suspension failed when the front arm came apart due to Doo missing the weld all together on one whole side.

99 Artic Cat Powder Special 3 engines ,4 engine mounts ,1 exhast mailfoild,2 Stearing stops, and 1 shock. What a pile, but the dealer had it fixed and ready to ride almost every weekend.I still put 1300 miles on it in one season.
THANKS WES!!!!!!!!
