price to pay to ride in wyoming

newmy always has something to say about something he's never done and about someone he's never met. I have no doubt newmy and srx could make every business in the Snowies run like a top if they chose after all their own businesses are probably booming. Don't let me discourage you from buying a business here and show me how right you are.

Chris

Show me a single post of mine where I stated I could run a business in the snowies. I have NO interest for the record. I also don't run a busines currently and don't have any interest so you don't need to put words in my mouth. For a guy that is TRYING to run a business in the snowies you sound like a real prick, just saying. I don't recall ever reading a positive post from you. You are correct I don't know you and I'm not saying you ARE a prick, you simply give me the impression that you are a prick by your posts on this site. We've actually considered staying at your place until we read your rants about your competitors etc.

Cheer up buttercup!

Newman you also can come off as being a prick or sounding like a prick as you state. Sometimes its best to be thought as a fool, rather than speaking out and removing all doubt.

Never said I'm not a prick. Thanks for the love:hail:

Chris,

Thanks for the kind words :)

I personaly have meet you, rode with you, and have stayed in your Cabins several times, BUT this was several years ago. (and will never happen again)

Not sure what has happened in the last 5-7 years but I'm shocked your even still trying to run your buisness. You hate people, think everyone else is wrong, and always come off as being pissed off (on the Net and IN PERSON).

This topic has came up a few times in our long tows to Wyoming and there are several people that have the same thoughts about Mountain meadow cabins.

Well I am glad to keep coming back here and reading nothing about what we can do about sticker prices. So? what about the clubs in wyoming that are going to offer help to the state putting up trail markers, or anyting they can do? Does anyone have ideas or should we just get on here and bash each other all day?

No nothing is set yet, it still has to pass the Legislature. Next year at the earlist.

I have no problem as a rental company owner paying the extra money. Am I happy, no, but imagine a trail sytem that was never groomed in a season. It would be miserable to the point of impossible. Grooming is directly effected by the price of fuel. Groomers burn a ton of fuel. There are other users of the trail. A downhill skier pays $99 per day to ski at Teton Village for the day (not the season). Shouldn't a cross country skier pay, maybe $20 (for the season) for a sticker to attach to their skis. They enjoy the groomed trails the same as us. Just a thought. As for the guy that thinks that rental owners are making a killing "you are smoking crack". Stated simply with a small fleet of 8 sleds. Eight sleds at $2000 depreciation=$16,000. 8 snowmobile stickers at the new rate $1600. Spare belts $150 a piece. Oil $25-$30 per gallon. Insurance $3000-$5000. Add in advertising, brochures, tranportation, fuel, trailers, maintenance. Approximately the first $20,000 made goes directly to expenses. In 1997 a 600 RMK cost about $5600 rental price and rented for $140. In 2012 a 600 RMK cost $7200-$7700 rental price and rents for $150. It is cutthroat right now. All of the revenue has to come in three months, then you get to look at the sleds sit in your garage acruing interest through the summer because the spring market is horrible to sell a sled in this economy. What if the snow melts early like last year? Rental companies used to get 18% below dealer cost with a one year warranty. It is now 10-12% I don't know the guy who has posted from the rental business or Chris but I can assure you that the attitude that the rental business is out to screw everyone is the reason that you are seeing many rental shops throw in the towel. Most guys are in the business because they loved the sport not because thay wanted to make a bunch of money. Unfortunately this sport has become very expensive, but not all people see that, especially the renter who has maybe never owned a sled or it has been a few years since they last did.

Rockinmranch.....Thanks for the reply! Now we can get details straight from one of the rental shops.

There is a great feature on this site that lets you find all posts from a member in seconds. That search quickly shows a few of your rental sleds for sale. You have a GREAT rental buisness! Lets just look at ONE sled, this is a quote from one of your posts

2012 800 RMK 155" standard Model
This sled was used as a rental here in Alpine, Wyoming. This sled is in great shape. Miles will be between 4000-4500.

So you put close to 4500 miles on just one rental sled, at the 50 miles per day average.....Thats 90 rentals at your low rate of 180.00 per day thats 16,200 :) Nice job! So just one of your sleds almost covers your 20k in expenses. That only leaves about 100,000.00 left over.

Thanks for providing the info. Eric

Ermm im just gonna point out that most people who are renting are typically riding trails moreso than just riding in the backcountry. When we went to wyoming the first time we still put about 100miles on the sleds each day. So he might make maybe 100k, but even that doesn't do a whole lot for a guy especially if he has an additional hand helping out.

I would bet the miles per day is much higher than 50 for renters. What about interest expense, depreciation, oil, labor, bldg, insurance, permits, etc?

I can't imagine how tough it is to make good money renting sleds.

Actually the $1 from the tags and hunting license does make a difference, so please keep adding the $1. :face-icon-small-coo

I am sure we don't want to mess with the state gas tax equation. The highway department is already eye every penny they think they can get their hands on. Opening that can of worms may cost us more.
From what I understand the only think that controls the amount the program gets if the number of tags sold, it does not depend on the price of the tag!

Thanks, no prob adding that extra $1! I only asked the question because up here our State will empty every account they can get their grubby little liberal mitts on, tell you they will do what you voted for and then do the exact opposite.

Togwotee9, I don't know Himark, so I vote Newmy. :face-icon-small-ton

Once again I try to give some informative information on this site and somebody thinks has to one up me cause he knows how to use his internet machine. There is so much more involved that I won't take the time to explain. Interest, wages etc. Yes, we average many more miles than 50 per day. Sorry for sidetracking this post. Loooking forward to a great winter. Edited Monday morning.
Thanks, Rob

So, are we still looking at the same price this year as last?

This turned into another testy thread :focus:.... Anyways any ideas on what the state is going to do this year to help make the grooming better? Always donate your dollar to S&R!

Back to topic....... I will be happy to pay what ever the price is, 100-200.00 non-res is fine with me.

You guys ever buy a trail pass in Ontario? FYI its 260.00 for the season and 140.00 for just 7 days. Use to ride up there about 10-12 years ago and had no problem paying those rates either. Eric
