Coming to Elko

A couple of us are coming to Elko next weekend. Is the snow better in the ruby's or north of town by Wildhorse?

Yeah has anybody been up north of big bend campground? I hunted elk up there last fall in area 061 & 071 and it looked like some awesome riding area if there was enough snow. Never been up there on a sled, anybody know the snow conditions up there? I'm headed either there or lamoille on saturday.

For those asking to go north... you kinda need to know the area this year. ALL the snow is just too high. Basically good pack is around 7500'-8000' and above. Wildhorse and north of Big Bend are GREAT areas... but at 6000-8000 elev there just isnt enough snow to head out cross country w/o taking out sagebrush (which is 3-5ft high) and finding the rocks. Lots of trail type riding on the network of roads though. Lamoille is REALLY coming along is actually pretty good right now. Still hear of rock damage every now and then, but its pretty sparse. I havent hit rock in the last 4 rides (TREES are another matter!):face-icon-small-sad You would have a good ride up Lamoille.

update

Went up yesterday, met up with some other riders and had an awesome day!
There's about 3-4 ft of base and 6-8 in of powder. Sorry no pics, got some video I'll post when I can.

I am going to be heading to Co this weekend and was thinking of stopping and riding in elko. I havent ridden their before and was wondering where to go and if i could find some good areas without a guide from the area. Any info would be helpful

Great pics guys, Looks like it'll be time for a road trip pretty soon.

See-ya then

Wildhorse

I used to laugh at the guys that rode Wildhorse, I'd been through there a few times on my way to/from Idaho (Hwy 225). My buddy talked me into riding sleds up there 4 years ago and I got HOOKED. I bought an acre of land this past October and moved a free-bee double wide on it. It was a blessing that the snow came a bit late this year. It's nowhere near done, but it is useable for the winter. I'll get it dialed in this summer. It's been great for the family, I have 2 boys ( ages 8 and 10) that ride. There is so much to ride and I haven't even touched Jarbidge. Mill Creek is my favorite spot, can't wait to explore to the south of that. It's a great place for the family to ride, easy enough for all skll levels with plenty of places for dad to climb. :)

CONGRATS on your investment!!! That area IS a hidden gem! Lived at the state park for 15 years... grew up on snowmobiles up there. I used to ride my 82 Yamaha 340 everywhere within 40 miles of the lake. I've had that lil' sled on TOP of the ridge looking down into Mill, all the way back into Merritt and the "Mahogony's" and as far south as Charleston. Started riding when I was between 8-9. Still my FAVORITE place to ride...

well, boys, whats the latest news?

Gotta have an Elko fix pretty soon, how is the snow looking?
