Need a new pack.

Cant go wrong with a Dakine Heli , 3 years on mine not a thread out of place.

hope they make a ABS version soon.

Before the ABS I used the Heli Pro...great pack, very durable with plenty of storage.

What do you guys wear? I want one that the back is pretty wide and that there is a place for the shovel and handle on the outside. And i want a pretty good amount of space in the inside for all my junk.
Any ideas?

If you don't have the money for the ABS or Snowpulse you should take a look at BCA. They are supposed to have an avy pack out this season for under $400.00. That's a third the price of the other 2. I don't know anything else about them as in different sizes or models, but for that price they are definitely worth a look. If you ride mountains this should be on your list of must haves; just my 2 cents.

Cheers;
Shane

Another vote here for HMK backpack. It also has water bottle holder on side of the backpack along shovel handle and probe. Alot of storage. I bought it last year and love it!

Jayson~if you want the wide backpack with shovel on the side, you might want to consider because if you go through trees, it would be good chance for the shovel handle to pop out if get hit by tree branches. Suggest to get a backpack that is smaller than your back. It would be less chance for it to pop out of your backpack.

For this situation I would recommend the HMK backpack with a black diamond aluminum Deploy shovel. The handle slides down into the base of the shovel and hides it very well.

Back on Topic though...I Love my HMK backpack. Had the orange, now onto SnowCamo color.

Thanks guys for all the help. I think i will most likely go with a dakine heli pro. I have looked and thought about that new bca one also. I think i may go for that one next season.

yep- ran one of those for 4-5 years before i went to the vest. great pack, but i like the vest better.
thing about ogio is, its tuff as all get out, IF you tear something up it is lifetime guaranteed - no questions, no hassle, and all their stuff is very well designed as far as layout, pockets, functionality.
the patrol was designed with input from salt lake area ski patrolers for on the snow users, ie: skiers, boarders, sledders.

I've had the same Heli-Pro since 2002 and still use it every weekend (hiking, hunting, sledding, ect). If I get another pack it'll just be a bigger Heli-Pro.

DaKine Poacher if you want to carry some extra gear. Lots of space but cinches down nice and tight when empty. Also has an outside pocket for shovel and probe so you don't lose it or catch branches.

Which Ogio vest are we talking about? There are two on there Website, both look like a gaint step forward over a pack.

the ogio flight vest is a lighter weight material. it was designed for photographers shooting events like motocross. has lots of pockets for lenses and other camera equip. mesh panels in the side and back to keep it cooler.

the ogio flak jacket is designed for snow use. no mesh. still lots of pockets for all your stuff. exterior rear pocket for shovel w/ seperate holders for handle, avy probe. fleece lined pockets for goggles, mp3's, etc. insulated hydration pocket and sleeve. good gear for sleddin'!!
