My Little brother got an MIP & a DUI last night out of state.

so....anyone in the BelleFourche area or Spearfish wanna go down town and grab a beer or something at Sanfords? I'll buy

hmmm...sounds like your little brother could get off if he says he was influenced by you as a role model..:beer;:beer;

Uh oh.

Question, if YOU, any of you, were driving drunk (I have in the past no doubt) and you killed someone such as someone's daughter, son, wife, hubby, grandchild etc. how would you feel about that ?

Personally, it would wreck my life or what is left of it. If someone driving drunk killed one of my grand daughters, have no doubt, I would kill them in a heart beat AND go to jail.

Driving drunk is probably something most of us have done at one time in our lives. Most of us are probably lucky we never got caught or hurt someone bad. I think everyone deserves a chance but another DUI and I say he should lose his license FOREVER.......................

So let me get this straight you have driven drunk before and was lucky enough not to have killed anyone, but would kill someone else for doing the same ????

Not trying to start chit jus sayin people who live in glass houses should get dressed in the celler!!!

Nate sorry to hear about your brother!!!!

Your sorry for this kid? He made a choice. He got caught,. Now he needs to live with the choice and the consequenses becuase of it. Now if Nate's brother was killed by a drunk driver then I would be sorry for him.

Dr. Nitro,

I think you are misunderstanding what I am saying here. Yes, if someone killed one of my grand kids I would kill them without any doubt. If I killed someone else's grand daughter while driving drunk I would expect them to kill me and I would deserve it. You drive drunk, you take chances, you better be ready to pay the price.

You can rest assured I do not live in a glass house but I have gotten dressed in a basement at times.

I do not feel sorry for anyone who gets caught driving drunk whether it be someone else or myself. I don't do it but I have in the past and I am just glad I never hurt anyone.

Absolutley right. Why do we need those ol nasty Police people. I think we should just get rid of them all because afterall laws are not made to be enforced. How dare someone think that anyone should not have the right to go out and get plowed and then jump behind the wheel of a 4000 pound projectile. Shame on them.
Nate now is the best time to teach your little brother what being a man is all about.
But judging by your post of about buying beers for anyone who will meet you at the bar there makes me think that you and your little brother will be laughing about it all the way back to Gillette. I hope not. JMHO
Forgot to ask. Who bought him the beer???????

I talked to the arresting officer about the incident. Said he was pretty plowed. Go figure. As for who bought him the beer, bro said girlfriends brother purchased the alcohol. They all went out on the town  I wont be giving him a ride home after all. He's gonna stay at his grandpa's place in Belle. We all thought he was on vacation. So worked out for me.

As for laughing all the way back to Gillette  well, my older brother and myself have both done stupid sh*t. I had 2 assault and batteries before 18 and I had to do alot of BS to get those thrown out. Older brother is just really good at wrecking vehicles, 6 to be exact. Just one of his life lessons. Little bro could have stayed home and got plowed with us instead of going off into another state. That's his choice. I imagine he will laugh about it soon, because I laugh about it now.

I also happen to think i'm a damn good role model :) I had that kid shooting tighter groups at a 800 yards at the age of 13 than most professional shooters could ever achieve in there lifetime and he's well on his way in becomming a machinist. We are just a rowdy group, but for anyone to call us bad role models  well then i'd say you dont know us at all :face-icon-small-dis

I dont know what they will do to him, community service would be good. I had 180 hours of community service to do and I had to log 40 hours of anger management when I received my offenses. That alone along with felony offense keeps me from hauling off and hitting someone because they asked for it.

But you can bet your azz he's gonna pay for this one, noone to bail him out and he wont be driving for awhile. It will get put into perspective when they sentence him to something and take away his license

i'll know more on Monday. But he isnt in the clinker anymore :D

Hey Nate,

Nothing wrong with your brother. He reminds me of me when I was 17. We all deserve a chance when young to correct our mistakes. I never got a DUI but I damn sure should have. I damn near killed a guy one time when I was in High School. He was the school bully. I had the chance one day and I knocked him into the big canal, books, clothes and all. I then took off. He damn near drowned and lucky for me he didn't. We all do dumb things, I think it is just part of growing up. I am a crusty old bastage now and I still do dumb a s s things.

Understood!!!!!! I also respect a man who fiercely protects his family.

"There are however some thing in life that are worse than death"

Now hypothetically say you and a cousin are in a car you are driving drunk and crash your cousin dies should his father come kill you???

If so who will ,A... help take care of your cousin's family, B take care of your family as in what did your kids do to deserve being dadless??? see where i'm going?????

Ask me how I came up with this senario? (not me and my cousin but close enough) hey drinking and driving is wrong but I have done it so I guess I will

"Remove the log from my eye before I look for a splinter in yours"

take care

yep, I see where you are going with that and you are right. No problem and we all make mistakes.

My rant above was not to say "it's ok to drink & drive", it was to keep this thread focused on Nate's brother.
If we want to debate alcohol & driving (and I will happily give my 2 cents), let's start a different thread so as not to sidetrack this one.

Nate, it's been about one year since i got my DUI so here's my advice for your Bro. (Anybody who has negative **** to say can **** off cause i've been through what he's going through).

First off, be easy on him, it will be a life changing experience for him. (for the better) I got mine while helping a friend who drove int he ditch int he winter. I was chit faced, hadn't drove all night while we were out. He showed up at my house a 3 am and said he was stuck. I pulle d him out, he left cops showed up. Bad news for me.

2nd, tell him to get a lawyer. This helped me more than anything. A lot of you will be pissed at me for saying this and say he deserves everything he gets, but there are a lot of legal loop holes that you can't find that a lawyer can.

It's gonna cost him a lot of $$$. Mine cost me roughly $5k. I paid the lawyer $1k abd everythiing else tallied up to the total. I got it lwered to an initentive, paid a buttload in fines, had no community service, had to go to some AA meetings (which are really heart breaking), Lost my license for 2 months fixed and had 2 months where I could drive to and from work and nothing else.

It's a tough road he's going down, everybody has done it but it doesn't make it right. Give him a little pep talk, tell him he just has to get past this hurlde and everything can go up from here. Let me know how it turns out

what sucks is the insurance company will get fat off of his dui

I 100% agree with all these statements. Hopefully he can get it dropped to a lower charge. He will still learn his lesson (trust me!) but a DUI on your record is not good at all. You can say goodbye to snowmobiling in Canada, going on senior trip to mexico, working for the government, etc., etc. Im sure theres loop holes for all those and im sure someone will correct me on it but it will definately make it tough to do those things.

Like sawyer said, get a lawyer. It will make his life somewhat easier. More dough, but its worth it. Atleast he doesnt have to pay to fix his truck ;)
Dang that reminds me.....I still need to fix mine :face-icon-small-sad lol

Absolutely get a lawyer. Depends on the county but you might be able to get the charge reduced to a reckless driving. Still the same fine but insurance and his record will look alot better. Worth a shot. Been there, done that. Good luck!

the big thing like i said before nate.. MAKE SURE he trys to go the teen court route.. if he can do this it will be the best way to go.. If he can't then time to get a lawyer

He can kiss his license good bye.

I have no problem with him being charged with an MIP and a DUI. What did he get pulled over for?

There is only one way we are going to see a decline on DUI's and that is to get tough on them.
