My 858 sux

You were holding it wide open on the first ride? Saw you only pulling 7600rpm. Unless things have changed, I never did that. Half throttle, occasional blips to 3/4 throttle. It's not just the engine but the new belt that needs breaking in before holding it WFO. That's what I do. I never expect too much from that initial first ride.

I like to hold mine pinned right out the box. If she dies she dies
I read the book a bit ago, all it says is it uses extra oil for three hours. Nothing about an rpm governor and the BOG didn't develop till later in the day.
I'd say lighter weights but it feels so weak.
When i was running without the side panel neither clutch looked to be shifting very much
Was super surprised i could hold an ice sidehill unlike my acender
Speaking of acender. I had three of those with no rpm governer.

Josh, change your plugs, man! That's all your bog is. There's lots of extra oil and gas going through the engine during break in, so your plugs will tend to foul. Especially during idle and extended WOT. You probably caused the most fouling when you pinned it. Don't do that on a new engine. It's not good for it.

Going through a set of plugs in break in I would say is normal. Hopefully the 858 isnt like my buddies 9r last year during break in. We changed A LOT of them before it got some miles on it. Hopefully just clutching and fouled plugs for ya.

Weird, my 9r is sitting at 480 miles after last season and still on original plugs. Wife's new 850 only got about 250 but no fouled plugs either.

My 9R with 750 miles doesn't foul plugs either.

If everything holds, plan on taking 858 out this weekend for first ride. 🤞 I plan on breaking it in like all the other new sleds I've had the last three decades.

We also suck and get stuck often so lots of starting and stopping. That may have been a contributing factor :ROFLMAO: I only changed a set once initially when it started having a slight bog on my ctech. The 9r ate plugs like candy though. His 850 the year before went through a couple sets. Might be slight operator error  his 9r and 850 were fine after first few days.

The ctech I gave a couple heat cycles at home. Then pretty much rode it like I normally do, vary rpm down the trail including a couple wot rips then ride normal once we get where we are going. If I was a pro rider and could make long pulls at wot in the deep I probably wouldn’t at first. Still try to vary throttle initially. Our ride in doesn’t have long stretches to just hold it to the bars for long stretches and I wouldn’t/dont do that anyway. But all motors I have always subscribed to the theory you need cylinder pressure to seat rings and to vary throttle and include heavy throttle early on and not baby it. Plan on the same once I get my 858

Extra fuel, extra oil, probably timing retard built into break in period program/mapping to keep peeps from killing them right off the get go not gonna run perfect for 8-10 hours just like the ascender chassis during the initial break in . And yes ride it like you stole it , but no ones chasing you !!😎😎
