My 858 sux

Isn't a fouled plug a consistent problem? Mine bogs randomly on throttle stabs.

I'd have to guess on hours but I'd say I have three or four hours on it with the 33 miles.

Definitely need some clutching, I ordered some speedwerks weights a couple weeks ago, not sure if they had to mine the material out of the grounds or what

The Ctec 600s and 800s had RPM limits for that first period of break in. If your Ascenders didn't your dealer probably ran it at the shop and got it through that period so they didn't have to hear customers complain about it.

I never had it happen but had a friend take his back to the dealer and that was all it was.

Hopefully Josh can get his worked out. There are a lot of videos of the production sleds ripping on FaKebook and Instascam. Super excited to get out, hopefully soon!!!

Josh - did you clean your clutches and belt before going out? I can't believe the amount of oil that were on mine. I'm sure it was to protect them during shipping but damn. I've never seen that on a new sled. Maybe it's something the dealer missed this time around.

This^^ . I went through mine this weekend and thought someone had spilled something on the secondary. It was oil! Once I saw that, the OCD kicked in and off the belt came and the cleaning began. Hope to take mine out this weekend if storms come as promised!

I hope you get it working, Josh, but as Chewy posted, there is a break-in you should follow. All you're doing is ruining your motor. Two strokes are WAY more sensitive to break-in than four strokes.

Break in period on the 858 is 3 engine hours. The first 3/10ths is limited to under 6500RPM, really rich oil injection. The last 2.7 hours is extra oil injection but full throttle! Apparently they have had a lot of calls about being crappy, bogs and fouled plugs if pushed around RPM's. Yes, I did not screen shot the belt break in, first 25 miles the belts need to be stretched easy and not hammered on! Always been the case! Excited for the snow, hopefully it shows up soon.

Yea the belt should be treated nice for 25 miles but it's just a sacrifice
They only want you to baby it right off the bat in hopes of not replacing a full engine.
If it let's go I want a rod through the case to get a full engine
I've always took brand new rebuilds and hold em wicked and let off, it seats the rings and the cross hatch gets it's maximum stroke wear tdc bdc.

Yeah that chat doesn't go above 8000 ft but the powering should be the same 81-8200 which I'm way off

No I didn't clean anything before I left, that could of been why it felt like I had snow hitting the clutch right off the bat. That slipping did happen one other time later on though

Thanks for the info good stuff!
In my experience the old Suzuki or previous C-Tec engines take around 500 miles to be truly broke in. That is when the engine get full power and loosened up. I heat cycle my engines while I am breaking in the belts this works for me. I had spoke with Andy Bevis last spring about this and he said the 858 used a different nikasil process for eng longevity and may take even longer to get to full power. He also said that during epa testing the engines dynoed more power at 4000 miles than at 400 miles. He didnt say how much more just more.

I put 301 on my new '23 Khaos last winter... it was seriously pathetic in the Tahoe area.

Big storm coming in now, hoping to get three feet or so in one of our riding areas, so a road ride is coming very soon for some gently, not-WOT break-in miles.

I didn't include it sorry, Do you need it?
Yeah If you have it but assuming it's 60 grams 8K'-10K' and that would put it right at what the C tec 800 required.
Also noticed the gear ratio is the same as the C tec 800 @2.6 according to the chart you provided
