Mountain mod snoscoot

its been almost a week with no updates...everyting going ok over there BHM?just checkin in....

Yep, things are all good, but extremely busy. Little guy came home Friday and that's been an adjustment after 3 weeks of him MIA!

I do have some new pics but can't find my card reader and my camera phone is too hard to get clear pics with. Some serious picks coming soon...I can't keep the veil down much longer:)

Look for audio clip of engine next week.

Above is a pic of the stock scoot engine and sitting next to it is its replacement, a Honda GY6 four stroke clone. I wont bore you with the details or history, and it may not look like much at first glance, but this is one crazy little engine. Known worldwide for its durability, extreme efficiency and due in large part to its huge ball bearing crankshaft bearings, this engine welcomes major hi performance upgrades and is raced heavily in Europe and Asia (scooters).

Stock SnoScoot engine is 80cc 2-stroke and has about 4.5 hp stock at 6200 rpm.

New engine in stock form is a 150cc 4-stroke with 8.75 hp stock at 7400 rpm.

Mods being done (pic is stock minus cooling shrouds):

188cc big bore kit with nicasil plated piston and lightweight wrist pin
Hi compression, large valve head
Hi-lift camshaft
Stroker race crank and lightweight connecting rod
30mm carb with hi flow intake
Programmable CDI with no rev limiter
11-pole stator with race magneto
Hi performance ignition coil
Current stabilizer to aid ignition with lightning fast, stratospheric rpms
Custom, free-flowing, rear exit exhaust system
Hi performance tunable variator (front clutch) with sliding weights
Hi performance, tunable clutch(rear clutch)
Kevlar drive belt
Custom final gearing
And a few more undisclosed treats

Result: approx 20hp with revs to over 13,000 rpms.

While this is no banshee engine, on the street as crazy as it sounds, this same engine installed in a scooter easily hangs with or beats some very fast cars and motorcycles in a dead drag race.

Should be interesting to say the least!

And much to come….

That thing should Rock !!! What big bore kit are you going to use ? My son has an XR 50 with a BBR 82 cc big bore kit and I know what that will do with me on it, that thing should rip.

Cant wait! That is an awesome engine choice. Pitbikes make great use of the power, so a Scoot with one is a perfect combo! Not much difference in size when they are side by side! Like I said I cant wait for a complete package!

Thanks boys, and the BB kit is straight from MRP Racing, the king of GY6 performance. We to cannot wait to get this animal finished and on the snow. Especially when you consider all the other secrets involved with this machine:)

stock suspension

I have never seen the stock suspension in a snow scoot but the last picture shows it. From that angle it looks alot like the Polaris rush rear end. the project is looking great!

This has got to be the sickest scoot ever! Nice jobBHM, I cant wait to see the final result. HURRY UP!!!!

Thanks guys, and I am going as fast as I can.... so many parts are new design and serve multiple functions and therefore tons of consideration and design and redesign has gone into them. And we won't be using the stock rear suspension...or the stock front suspension...or pretty much anything else stock. The only stock items in these builds are:

the main frame (modified here and there)
seat pan (restored back to original bend/shape)
steering post (probably eventually going to chromoly there)
Fuel tank
Oil tank (now serves as fuel reserve)
and the steel bulkhead that covers the front of the track..

and that's it. ;)

Oh, and you mean the Rush resembles the Scoot, after all, the Scoot came out a cool 22 years earlier;) Just kiddin... I would love to take a Rush for a dig; they look awesome!

BHM

im with ya bhm...

when the polaris folks started talking about this revolutionary rear suspension design...all i could think about was the scoot from 1988 but slightly modifed for a heavier, longer track...

Gear reduction is built into these CVT motors in the final transmission, which is gear drive. And I don't think it will be necessary, but we can cut our own gears to get the ratio we need :beer;.
